I wish physical games still came with manuals. These notes I made while playing through the first Resident Evil still make me chuckle.

I tried to write them somewhat cryptically, because I thought that's how you write hints 😂

I believe I still have notes for cheats for GTA Vice City somewhere around here, I'll post when I find it.

There's a lot of things I miss about physical manuals, or hell, really manuals in general. I spent so much time looking through manuals for neat official art, character bios, the occasional tip or trick, story things not really clearly talked about in game, etc. My personal favorite game manual still might be the manual for Twisted Metal Black. It's stylized to be the manual of the character No-Face, so between pages of typical game manual things, you get notes and characterization on him, which is really cool.

Definitely built the hype before playing something new. I used to pour over the item descriptions and character sheets and illustrations. I remember really liking the DOOM (PSX) manual, I've got that around here somewhere...and on another tangent, the music in that version is really atmospheric. I burnt it to a disc to listen to it separately.

Sadly I doubt physical games will be sold at all after the next generation. Never say never though, we may see a return of manuals and the like! I'd be all for it.

PSX Doom is a pretty great version of Doom. I played through a PC version of it not too long ago. The Doom 2 monsters and super shotgun in Doom 1 is worth it by itself.

Well, also doesn't help that at this point theres barely a reason to buy a console cause pc ports are now more common

Too true. Now that third party controller's are starting to get more robust support on PC, I can play 99% of console releases, with my preferred controllers, with Spotify, with mods and with whatever customisation options that consoles just can't offer. Oh, and I can also just switch to my web browser, which modern consoles no longer offer.

Unfortunately while I can't really be too confident that manuals will be coming back anytime soon, I can with some confidence say that I don't think physical games are going anywhere. At least, not anytime soon. Physical sales actually make up a pretty significant amount of game sales still, though it does vary from company to company and game to game. I know about a year ago about 60% of Sony's first party games sales came from physical sales. There's also a lot of data that shows a significant chunk of sales that come from the digital side of the market come from things that are only able to be bought digitally, like DLC and in-game currency. It's not the majority of sales in that sector or anything, but it's also not something that only people who by digitally will get either. Unless the general decline in physical games sales continues, or if the major companies were confident that people would be largely willing to make the switch to all digital, I don't think they'll make the push. Unless they just scrap consoles and port everything to PC, but I don't really see that happening either.

Look forward to April Fools.

I definitely didn't expect that number to be so high. I've always been a big proponent of owning physical media, but I currently own less than 10 PS4 games and exactly 0 PS5 games. Everything is digital now, because if the convenience, and because of online sale prices. In my town we used to have 4 video game stores. 2 for all the modern releases, with a few retro bits here and there, and 2 for retro and second-hand only. Now all that's left is 1 that sells some old and some new, amongst DVD's and other tat, and a new shop that specialises in Retro stuff up to sixth console generation.... maybe it's just around these parts though

There's not a lot of full video game stores in my area anymore that aren't either GameStop or something selling retro games in my area either, but most Walmarts in my area still carry physical games and you can often find them in media resale stores too. If you can find a Best Buy they also usually carry physical games still, but those are getting a little rarer. It's also not usually too difficult to get physical games online as long as you're not pre-ordering.

Nuuuuuuuuuu, that is a collectors edition book, why write in it! it is ruined now!

Man, i always had papers in the same case where i wrote stuff, NEVER EVER WRITE ON THE PACK IN T_____________________T....GoessssssssSSss to corner and criessssss! T_T

I'm all for physical also, that way I know the game I owned is actually mine. Ironically I love the inconvenience of non-digital trinkets, not just video games, I still own an MP3, I collect CDs, DVDs, BDs, some books too. How should I say it, I can "connect" more to these items when it's form is more tangible.
I'm willing to go medieval for physical games even if the price is ridiculous.

So I came down with an insane stomach illness a few days ago so to distract myself from it, here are my takes on each of the Pokémon gens after binging all nine last year for the first time. I’ve zero nostalgia for the entire Pokémon series cuz Nintendo consoles weren’t a thing here so my takes are from sheer insanity alone (as are all my takes). Also don’t worry about me, I’ll drink tons of water to keep myself healthy so I’ll be fine… I hope.

Gen 1: best by far with no competition. The most freedom I had and it was fun replaying it 20 times. Yellow sucks though.
Gen 2: I like a lot of the stuff you can experiment with but I consider it a really poor sequel. I think all three versions are equally bad and Its only saving grace are the legitimately excellent romhacks like crystal legacy and crystal clear. Wholeheartedly recommend those even as a first timer.
Gen 3: the daycare ruins this. It’s funnier to not elaborate so I won’t. Ruby/Sapphire is better than Emerald.
Gen 4: Abamasnow
Gen 5: overheated and overrated
Gen 6: a misteak
Gen 7: a miss steak
Gen 8: Gloria is the only thing I acknowledge the existence of.
Gen 9: tbh im not sure who thought Pokémon should be a Lifesim. I think Nintendo always wanted Pokémon to basically your life but this game was the most unsubtle about it.

If you disagree with all these you’re going to jail.
If you agree with all these you’re going to prison.

Sun and Moon, is peak pokemon, their only downside, is having MGS4 long af cutscenes.

I was gonna make the joke too but forgot. It was funnier to just have a pun.
