Interesting infooo

What languages you speak ?
I'm only completely fluent and literate in English, but I can speak, read, and write Japanese at a basic level.

My handwriting is utterly atrocious though, which is what I was taking a jab at myself about :loldog

r/languagelearning - Learning Japanese (OC memes)

Is this a good description ?

The first sentence contradicts the second one. It's something most people can only dream about do to.
Eh, learning very basic Japanese isn't too hard really, and I wouldn't say I'm fluent or literate in it either. I know just enough to pretend to know what I'm doing.

moshi
moshi

too lazy to use the char map so romaji is on the menu today.

I remember a lot of Japanese words - just sometimes fail to form sentences right or say things that sound awkward in cultural context

for example, I exclaimed once "atama ga itain desu!!!" - but was quickly informed that I made a gaijin boo-boo in conveying that I have a headache.

so fuck it, I'll be that guy... Sodom from Mad Gear gang's bumbling exploits in unintentional paradoxical non-sequiturs that make the locals snicker a pringlez-face "W!" underneath their breaths

Props to you guys for learning (basic) Japanese. I attempted it back in the day but the kanjis are just too darn intimidating, can only remember like, 10 at most. Still use & read hiragana & katakana though, even though I can only use it for basic site navigation & games.
Oddly enough, Japanese pronunciation for vowels & stuff is pretty close to French (which I know), so I can at least get points on that part lol.

It depends on how good you are at learning foreign languages. I get by with english because it was always easy to learn for me since middle school. I tried with korean few years ago, but quit because it would have been pointless, same for japanese.

I wish I would have kept up with the year of Japanese I took in community college a few years ago. I still have my books and stuff, but mostly my current knowledge is whatever I've learned thus far through Duolingo. I did buy a couple travel books to learn some common phrases before I visit. For some reason I never forgot that jitensha means bicycle and eigakan means theater. If I need to use a bicycle to go see a movie while there I suppose that will come in handy.

Spanish is my native language, and i am fully fluent in English.

My friend is learning japanese and he sometimes teaches me a bit, i can speak and understand a little bit, but i gave up with their nonsense alphabet, a language is supposed to be practical for crying out loud.

I can also understand some spoken mandarin and korean.

All you need from a language is to know, left, right, ahead, behind, go, and stop.

I never took a foreign language or anything. I started teaching myself a little German, but got distracted away from it and had no way to really consistently learn it.

My nephew taught himself the Russian Alphabet when he was like... five, though.

I'm bilingual, English and my native language.

My bet is some centuries down the line the use of kanji/hanzi will subside, languages tend to simplify over time. It will be a cultural loss, but egyptians don't write in hieroglyphs anymore

I ain't even gonna mention wanting to learn Japanese at this point. My lazy ass ain't doing squat. I did pick my bass back up though. Been trying to slap my way through Take it on the Run by REO Speedwagon and Hysteria by Def Leppard. Was also getting my ass kicked by Call Me by Blondie, that one is definitely the ultimate project rn. Maybe I'll build myself back up instead of wallowing all day. Hopefully lol. We better reach page 1000 by the end of the year.
