Black feathers rain down from the Sky People.
Their desire for annihilation for those who do not live on the Floats.
All that the surface can do is weep.
That is when Karous comes.
No other shmup does it for me like Karous which first released in arcades and was the very last game to hit the Dreamcast..
Any of Milestone / RS34's impeccable lineup of bullet hells that ooze so much style, i'm shocked it doesn't reek of something fierce if you know what I mean.
From the breakbeat parade of a incredible soundtrack brought to us by Daisuke Nagata & Kou Hayashi, a floorfiller duo who are almost programmed to never make a horrible song in their lives.
The gameplay always resonates to me in a incredible way. Use your Shot, your Sword, or your Shield, all are completely equal and valid playstyles. As your kill count with all three types increases, so does their innate level and their powers transform and become even stronger. The way this game pulls off the idea, it's like magic. I love braving my fears that cower me from approaching the top side of the screen like in other shoot them ups going gung-ho with a sword.
Everyone has their special game in the world, a precious item, be it material or immaterial that feels like they're grasping and holding their heart when they embrace it. Karous is that game to me. One of the videogames I have the closest to my heart. Karous is a magnificent example of what I love.
