Hell yeah, shooters are awesome! I played them a bunch on TG16 as a kid and got back into them a few years ago after playing and beating R-Type Delta. There's so many good shooters out there and if anyone is interested in getting into the genre the TG16, Genesis, and Saturn are a must with NES, SNES, and Dreamcast also being pretty key. A few of my personal favorites are R-Type Delta, R-Type Final, Blast Wind, Gate of Thunder, Danmaku Unlimited 3, and Aero Fighters.

Not arcade, but two of my favourite ones (that are not the common favourite ones):

I have to admit this genre is love & hate for me, because I don't like games too difficult, and shmups tend to be difficult even in normal modes.
I like the idea sometimes of going on a linear skill based journey. No getting lost or looking for shit, just see if you can survive (I usually can't lmao)

Been playing an unreal amount of RayForce lately. One of the coolest games of all time. I still legitimately tear up at that ending.

Ive been playing a whole lot of Dariusburst CS on my end. I did 1CC Gradius 1 in the middle of that (mainly by accident, frankly) but have been a bit tied up since with stuff like Disgaea 3

I should really go back to running some stuff like Devil Blade Reboot, Daioujou DX and RECCA
I want that dariusburst CS

I will forever be this game's no 1 ride or die fan until I die

NMK REALLY deserve to be talked about with the same reverance as Cave, Toaplan, Compile etc. because EVERY shmup they made is an absolute treat start to finish, and they also have a more accessible difficulty curve which makes them great for beginners to get into as well!

Finally played a DoDonPachi (Ressurection for Steam) and gotta say: I get it now.

The only other Cave game I've played was ESP Ra. De. and enjoyed it plenty but DoDonPachis is something else.

The HYPER mechanic truly is hype. Half the time I didn't knew what the hell was going on but the other half was incredible

It's funny how it took me diving into emulation in my teens/early 20s to get a taste for Shumps. Never really encountered them much growing up, but I absolutely flocked to them

Weirdly enough, one of my favorites is the NES port of the first Fantasy Zone (with Super Fantasy Zone taking second) (srsly though, the world needs more cute-em-ups)

Not really that good at bullet hells despite playing them over FBA fairly frequently. Kind of prefer old school style shmups

Absolutely recommend going through ShmupJunkie's channel, he is great! Very well researched videos with a great exciting and welcoming energy for veterans and newbies to the genre alike. Honestly I credit him with me getting back into this genre a few years ago, binged his whole channel.
