i won't judge if your answer is something along the lines of "astro bot" or "baldur's gate 3" or any flavor of the year
i'm only asking out of curiosity

but if you were to ask me, my personal GOAT that im constantly revisiting is a tie between Mario 64 (the decomp is just chef's kiss) or Yakuza 0 (really need to beat it eventually, its just so jam packed)

I'm sure this is a huge cliché, but currently I'd say it's between either Super Metroid (one of like two or three games I'd genuinely consider perfect) and Ocarina of Time (this one is more subjective, but it's definitely a great game and when you add the nostalgia - *chef's kiss*)

That's definitely the kind of question where my answer changes every couple years though. A couple years ago it might have been the original Doom or Advance Wars 2, for example.

Link to your article please.

There are far too many games to distill it to one GOAT. If I had to pick just one game it would be something like Chess or the original Legend of Zelda. Something so influential that served as inspiration for other franchises.

If we are going with something more recent, I would say System Shock 2. It is a game that defies genres and used gameplay elements to enhance an excellent horror story. Even better than the spiritual successor, Bioshock.

Oh this is hard
Two contenders though would be Metal Gear Solid and Monster Hunter (starting from Freedom Unite) series

First is known for it's polished, attention to details and great story, while the other is because YOU'RE HUNTING A BIG MONSTER over and over again to build your own armor off it (trying to kill it is the fun part though)

Either Sid Meier's Pirates (I'm partial the Commodore 64 version since it's the one I had as a kid), or Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, depending on the day. I like how open-ended Pirates was for the time and can immediately go back to that time in my memory when I play it, and PSO is like my main relaxing go-to.

80s - Mega Man (1)
90s - Wolf Fang
00s - Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
10s - Fire Emblem Three Houses
20s - Fire Emblem Engage
It's freaking hard to decide which is my all time. Probably NGS2.

I think I'll play some ninja gaiden sigma right now. Never properly played them...

Also, I can't answer that question, but I can say that when it comes to classic JRPG, Chrono Trigger is the perfect JRPG game, like, peak 16 bits era jrpg. Everything that was learned from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest up to that point cooked in a delicious jrpg soup. Not many games are like that.

Black Rock Shooter: The game (PSP), just liked it very much.
I had a lot of fun, the combat system was great, liked the Soundtracks, Perfect dificulty (for me), good graphics (in my opinion) and the story was good too, but not The Best between all the ones i've played.
That's it, none very specific motive, or emotional/nostalgic motive (think i played it 4 or 5 years ago).

Bulk Slash by Hudson-soft / 1997 on Sega Saturn

Has everything I enjoy in video games; fast arcade-esqe action, piloting large mechas (transforming robot at that), large bosses, colorful 3D/2D hybrid graphics, animated cut-scenes I could go on. This was the time I dove into the sea of imports Sega Saturn had to offer in the early 2000s through torrents. Growing up I owned a Saturn in '96 and played that little localized games that were released in NA. I wrote a review of it back in the day then posted it on GameFAQs. I remember the time I bought it CIB on eBay for thirty bucks, before the YouTube reviewers started releasing videos and having the price annually increase.

Silhouette Mirage by Treasure / 1997 on Sega Saturn, PlayStation

Huge fan of developer Treasure ever since I played Gunstar Heroes on Genesis. Made a fan website back in the day on Angelfire (and then Geocities, anyone remember those?) and have fond memories buying the PlayStation game new at Circuit City in 1998 with my parents. Creative weapon upgrades, characters, stages, bosses, animated cut-scenes, memorable soundtrack are few of my reasons it's my favorite game. To be honest I never finished the game back in the day, it was only recently when the Saturn English translation patch was released I eventually completed it and seen the ending all these years later.

My absolute personal GOAT is Final Fantasy 8.
Vagrant Story, Persona 2 (duology) and Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes are very close.

The GOAT on every console you played would be nice idea too.

Mighty hard question, as it goes back and forth depending on the day, then you have games like Devil May Cry 3 and its fun as hell combat and things like Armored Core Last Raven with a colossal amount of customization, as well as rather divisive difficulty. JRPGs have quite the contenders too.

This is a tough one. I suppose if I had to narrow it down to one, I'd say Terraria. I have gotten more fun out of that game than any other I've ever owned. I can cheerfully launch it any time, and it's guaranteed to make me smile. And I suck at it.
