What is your favorite mod, hack, ect that massively builds on the base game in some way?

I love the THUG Pro project. It's a mod for Tony Hawk's Underground 2 on PC that's porting every level of every Tony Hawk game to the THUG 2 engine. It even has multiplayer via the OpenSpy servers, custom soundtracks, and community made levels that are far more intricate and unique than could be made in the included level editor back in the day. When work isn't kicking my ass, I might be more active in multiplayer if anyone here is interested.

Even though it has a bit of a declining reputation among hardcore fans... I adore Brutal Doom.

It takes an already great game and cranks it up to 11 on every category. I simply cannot go back to the original after playing that.

Would something like the Sawyer mod for New Vegas count here? If so, I'll go with that.

Doom 32x Resurrection, really awesome work they've done
And then there's the recolor patches, it's just a color change. But the difference is so amazing!

If you are looking for a fresh way to play Doom, try a mod called Roguelike Arsenal (unique player classes, weapon modification, and a ton of other cool features).

Combine it with an external program that can create maps based on the parameters you set called Obsidian, and you have more variety and more Doom than you can shake a stick at.

Brutal is all right, but it just tries way too hard for my tastes.

Ohhh... Really unexpected! I didn't imagine you to have such extreme and "perverse" tastes 😱: really too violent and revolting mod.
On the same topic, I like the more modest and tepid Freedoom1/2, Hacx, Harmony and Chex Quest series (all Doom TCs).

As for me, I prefer Oblige and Obhack as random map generators: I've been exploiting their potential for a lifetime.😎

I like some things about Freedoom (the player's face, some of the weapons) but not so much others (some of the weapons have a plastic like look I don't appreciate, but that's true for vanilla Doom as well - the shotgun looks like it's made of plastic and I hate it).

That's why even when playing vanilla I apply a doom 64 visual overhaul mod.

From what I understand, Obsidian is directly derived from the other two, so it probably has everything they do, in theory.

I really love Celeste Mario's Zap & Dash. Easily one of the best ever. The mad man modded Super Mario Bros. into a completely different game from SMB1. It's a sort of mini Metroidvania with Celeste mechanics, with Mario graphics. It controls like a dream, the level design is great, and it's not too long.

Another romhack I love that completely changes its game is Paper Mario Black Pit. It turns Paper Mario 64 into a roguelite, based on the Pit of 100 Trials from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Runs can take a little while, but they feel really good, and you're basically always making meta-progression. It works really well with Paper Mario's combat system too. If you like roguelites, definitely check it out.

Depending on the topic this is talking about my favorite over hall would be the DX rom hacks or the Color Hacks. They were mods for old GB games that turned them into GBC games. The most notable was Metroid II Samus Returns. Seeing that game in full color is a treat. Along with Mega man I to V GB games in perfect color.

If we are talking my favorite Mod hacks i want to say Shock Slayer's Crystal Clear for pokemon. Not only is it still compatable with Pokemon Stadium 2 but adds tunes of Mini quaility of life updates. Logical Gym battle scaling and turns Pokemon Crystal into a 100% open world travel game allowing me to go anyway in the two maps as i see fit.

As to anything modern Enderal Forgotten Stories would be my pick. After all Elder Scrolls Skyrim was a good to decent game before Bethesda killed it with updates. But a complete stand along game with a way better story being able to be slotted into it! That mean's for PC you're basiclly getting a two for one speical.

I play a lot of HoI4, so I must say probably Kaiserreich or Old World Blues

Bid for Power, just hilarious what they made out of Quake 3.

Spongebob for Doom is also really well done and the latest TC Mod i have experienced.
