Whats your opinion on pirating game because of their price?

Same here, since C64 times. I get most of my games from Fitgirl, Kaos or Gazelle. Of course I also still have a huge bunch of games on Steam, from time to time I buy games when I'm bored and have the feeling I need to spend some money.

I only buy from Steam when there's a sale. Not because I'm a cheapo but because it's the only way I can afford it. I also "sample" games if I am not sure they will run on my potatotop. If it works and I intend to buy the game I delete the version I pirated. If there were more demos available I wouldn't have to do this.

Retro games? Pure piracy unless I come across something PS1that's cheap since I have one plus I can play them on my PS3 too. I have a GBC but the sound only works with headphones. It belonged to a relative and I have no idea what happened to it. And it's the Pokemon one too. Too bad.

Just saw a visual novel on steam for 20USD that you need to go out of your way to download a patch on a third party website if you want to see 18+ scenes (whole point of the game tbh, the story is kind of goofy). This made me start to think about how even though people have different opinions (game has mostly positive reviews on steam), some game are not worth spending money for. What's your opinion on pirating? Am I reading too much into it?

PS: the game is night shift nurses, very trashy/questionable fetish content so be warned.

In general, I agree with your sentiment. There are games that are simply not worth your money, even single digits. I've been burned by cheap games before, and in a handful of cases, those cheap games weren't even worth pirating. Piracy aside, sometimes you have to stop and consider the real question: is a select game worth your time? Purchase or pirate, you are still investing time into a game you (presumably) want to play, and you have no guarantee of enjoying it.

As for your question on piracy, I find it justifiable, especially when nobody is interested in preservation or just making certain titles freely available long after they leave the market. Beyond that, I would rather pay money for a game from an indie developer than buy a game from a dead development studio their publisher screwed over.

As for the game in question, this is certainly not worth the money or time. Going off one of the top reviews, it's goofy how the patch is bigger in size than the game itself.

Would you consider it theft if you read a book in its entirety inside a bookstore without purchasing it?

The current market gives me no reason or incentive to support it, so it gets nothing from me; the retro market is grossly overinflated and isn't something I want to support or incentivize; without archival and emulation, classic games will only stay in the hands of "collectors", or stuck on older consoles. Plus I learned how to use breakpoints to find last changed RAM addresses, which I would have never bothered to learn had I used actual hardware to play some of these games. I can't afford new stuff, so I would rather have complete control over the older stuff and get the most enjoyment I can out of it.
