What's a game everyone loves but you don't like it?

I haven't played it in a really long time, like back when it was $5 and you got grandfathered into every update, but I thought Minecraft was alright. Sometims you just wanna dig a hole for like six hours, you know?

My problem with Mania is this exactly. It should have had 12 or so completely original zones and leave the remixed ones for an extra mode or future DLC. It falls short of being the true Sonic 4, in my headcanon, and that's sad.

Define "original" zones because the "new" zones in Mania are just a hodgepodge of level gimmicks from previous Sonic games with a different coat of paint. Mirage Saloon Act1 is literally just Wing Fortress Zone.

Playing Roblox with them makes me feel like a Boomer trying to understand what kids do.

Nah, what’s even more sad is how SEGA’s management were EVIL to the creatives.

The end result? We will never get a true Mania 2. We will never get a game that truly builds off of it using the same team. That’s depressing.

Even with the franchise and SEGA as a company making positive moves, I still have my eye on them. When they do something good, I’ll support it, but I won’t be shocked if they do something evil. They always have to prove it to me first before I purchase a game from them in the modern day.

To be fair the more games you play the more the patterns repeat (any zone involving the Tornado will be traced back to Wing Fortress), but that doesn't mean a zone is a straight copy.

And there’s another issue. There’s a whole lot of “prying level gimmicks from unused content or older content”.

I know these developers can do better. I’ve seen them do better in their own independent projects. Why now, when they have the budget and the backing, do they fall back on being safe?

Maybe it was a request from on high? We know that it was a request from SEGA to have the game be a majority old zones, but still…

I dunno. Sometimes, all a game needs to be is a simple gameplay loop that gets into your brain. I think the problem in Minecraft’s case is that you can’t escape it. You can’t go “it’s not for me, so I just won’t interact with it”. It’s ALWAYS IN YOUR FACE ALL THE TIME! Gameplay here! Drama there! Movie here!

I guess I don't understand like, hentai visual novels. I play otomes...Idk I guess the hentai ones that are gratuitous aren't 'for' me, so it doesn't really matter.

But again, why don't dudes value a good story as well as boobs? Like have a solid plot and then boom, sexy time. Why is it always kind of just gross and super fake? That's the point?

Also I can't stand mobile games as a genre. Just have a full game for 20$, stop making everything pay to win gachas.

My kid is super into Roblox. She really likes the dress-up games. I get it. It's like virtual barbies. The platform does have a lot of really cool games people have made, but it's so saturated with low quality BS.

Or Naoto Oshima’s wacky wonderland of mediocre in Sonic Superstars.

The thing with hentai games is that the focus is instant gratification. There's no real value in proper buildup in this segment, and this contributes to the cheap smut reputation these games have.

Mobile is just almost always drivel, just like you said. As for Roblox, don't get me started, I get annoyed just at the sight of it.

I think there are a few eroge games that deal with interesting subject matter and can be appreciated even with all of the sexy time scenes removed. I do appreciate that eroge games tend to go into more risque subjects such as the occult, demonology or assorted horror themes. The ones that are more fondly remembered do have the solid plot plus sexy time formula, even if most of the time the way they reach those scenes makes little sense. There are a lot of games that are trash tier level storytelling, though, and at that point, you are probably better off checking out porhhub.

Uhhhh… Super Metroid.

It’s amazing for the time and the system! But I don’t like how it is set up, and especially don’t like its control scheme. I don’t feel like I’m in control and I don’t feel like the developers planned out much of the world for me.
People generally talk about the freedom the game presents!
…fair, but that’s if you’ve already played it. When playing it the first time, I feel boxed in, I’m trapped with controls that feel poor, and I just kinda am sitting there going

It’s still beautiful. It still has amazing cinematic presentation. But that stuff is remarkably back loaded in the game. My mind set going in was “look at all these cool moments I always hear about! Just imagine what the rest of the game is like!”

No. Those moments are the only ones in the game that are like that.
I’ll be even more weird by saying that I like Metroid 1 more. At least it doesn’t tease me with being cinematic and cool SOMETIMES you know?

I don't know, I don't think every VN plays out that way. Granted, some try to give more reasons and it ends up going into disturbing subject matter, so be careful what you wish for. Like if you are ok with evil brainwashing demons or even worse subject matter some of the horror VNs might be what you are looking for.

Some explanations, as someone who does like all kinds of VNs:

The ones only centered around sex are called Nukige, which are solely for horny guys to get their rocks off, there is an occasional anomaly that manages to be profound and be a sex game (Like Teaching Feeling), but that's extremely rare.

When it comes to writing, Nukige = Porn, Eroge = Erotica. Usually, but not always true.

You have no idea how bad it gets when you look at the RPG Maker games scene, by comparison, nukiges are tame.

We do, but coomers tend to be more obsessive and loud about +18 content, which is a reason a lot of us who like VNs have a bad stigma in some circles.

Porn writing, which is extremely easy to do. In many VNs, they literally half-ass it because most writers don't want to do it in the first place or just don't care, but they know sex gets clicks.

Kinda, it used to be believed that VNs needed to have sex to sell, these days its more tolerated not to have it, but the original belief was held for a very long time.
