What's a clone you enjoy more than the game it's copying?

More of a pastiche of three games combined into one, but I enjoy AnnaLynn more than Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Jr. That said, I don't mind a round of these three every now and then.

Battletoads (Arcade), Vendetta, and Golden Axe I enjoy more than any of the arcade versions of Double Dragon.

Picayune Dreams is the greatest thing to ever come out of the creation of Vampire Survivors.
Single-handedly one of the coolest games I've ever played. Insanely cool aesthetics, jaw-dropping soundtrack and fantastic gameplay loops. Never put the game down until I 100%'d it.

I also hear Okami regarded as a Zelda clone, not sure I inherently agree. But it's much more better to me than Zelda.

It does use the Zelda formula. Not entirely, but the inspiration are pretty much there. Ironic, as both Okami and Twilight Princess came out around the same time.

Even though Ninja Gaiden (NES) started as Castlevania clone, it branched out to its own thing. With that said, I am finding Ninja Gaiden Ragebound better than Haunted Castle Revisited. Don't get wrong, both are excellent games, and great at what they do. HCR is a remake of a shitty Castlevania arcade game that surpasses it, and is one of the best entries in the entire franchise. Ragebound is the best out of the 2D Ninja Gaiden games in the franchise. The advantage HCR has over Ragebound is an easier difficulty, but you can bump on the difficulty as much as you want without having to start a new save file.

Silent Hill has been called a Resident Evil clone but I've always liked it way better.

Strider (2014) is the best metroidvania of the 2010s. It's one of the rare games in the genre I actually enjoy playing.

Shame that it could've started a new series of games but it's lost to the limbo...

You know what? It almost feels like a beat'em up Metroidvania hybrid and almost like a precursor to Mercury Stream's Metroid Samus Returns and Dread.

Dust: An Elysian Tail (2012), and Guacamelee (2013) beat Strider (2014) by two years and one year respectively. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate (2013) also beats Strider (2014) by one year as well. Though Strder (2014) would more so be a hack n slash in this case, but same difference applies.
