Pretty sure it was this DOS BattleZone clone called Stellar 7. I don't remember it being particularly fun, in fact it was hard as hell, but it did sport a cool '80s Sci-Fi aesthetic:
Definitely got into all those Windows 3.1 like Chip's Challenge, and a ton of DOS games way back then as well. Too many hours playing OMF2097, Dungeon Hack, Civilization, Pirate's Gold, Descent, SkyRoads, etc.
Have preserved them over the years and still have backups of a bunch of DOS games and save files from the 90s. My parents were very much into electronics and tech, so we usually had some kind of PC, even when times were lean.
Was usually a couple of console generations behind, though. I remember going to a buddy's house and playing Mario 64 while I was still mucking around with the original NES. Those were the Blockbuster days where you could still rent consoles, so I did get a taste of the Genesis now and then.
