- Final Fantasy Origins (or Dawn of Souls) over the famicom originals
Origins retains the feel of the originals while giving the games a much-needed coat of paint (in my opinion). Dawn of Souls also adds new content to Final Fantasy I and reworks the D&D-esque magic charges into a MP system more in-line with the rest of the series (perhaps making the game easier as well).
{Yes I'm aware Origins is based off of the WonderSwan versions, apply my reasoning for Origins to them as well}
- Final Fantasy III (3D remake) over the famicom original.
Gives the onion knights names and faces, makes the game feel a little more cinematic and introduces many new additions like giving each party member different designs per job, making them stand out visually even if you're going with a party of four geomancers. There's also other things like the new music which I love dearly.
- Baroque (PS2) over the saturn original (depending on the day)
A bit of a hot take for sure, but I'm a fan of the awkward look translation of anime styles into 3D. I find some of the menus easier to navigate, the nerve tower itself is easier to navigate now that you're in third person and you don't have the turning radius of an aircraft carrier (which has more than once caused me a frustrating end). It may lose the atmosphere that made people fall in love with it and the translation may not be as perfect as the fan-translation, but I love it all the same.
