Child Prodigies, not in general obviously, but the ones that are too robotic or "Adult" for my confort, i have met smart kids that are...well, kids and associating smart kids with emotionless machines that spouts fact because they are "SOOOO CLEVER" rubs me in many wrong ways, i like Jimmy Neutron and Dexter because the titular kids have the genius but also are portrayed as natural kids that, woah woah woah, can commit mistakes

Also emotional maturity is a different thing from intelligence.

Because in the past if you read a lot, especially in the dark, you can strain your eyes and need glasses; and ppl who read a lot are seen as smart. The late 20th century equivalent is if you spend a lot of time in front of the computer you probably do a lot of research and you're smart
Nowdays eveyone fries their eyes so it doesnt mean much anymore, but stuff like this sticks even if its outdated

Though nowdays on the internet having black rimmed glasses is associated more with millennial soy

As glasses became more common throughout all socio-economic backgrounds, one thing remained; Those who read wore glasses more often.
And those who read tended to be more educated.

The trope was just a reflection of society at its time.
Glasses are far more common these days because everyone is staring at their screens, be it cellphones or monitors.

So why is the trope still here? Times have changed, ya?
While this is true, glasses simply make people look "smarter". Writers find them to be a useful tool for identifying the smarter person.
In a room of perfect beautiful people, how can writers easily establish to the audience that this person is the smart one?

Giving the "Weird girl" a makeover so she can be normal and happy and her life will magically change. The Breakfast Club and Clueless are both very very guilty of this. Molly Ringwald even apologized for it and said that giving Ally Sheedy's character a makeover was not her idea at all.

I kinda agree but then the polar opposite where males and females are the exact same with 0 sexual dimorphism for non-human species is also a bit jarring and seems a bit lazy. Taurens and Worgens thankfully have one.

Its also annoying as it is just black abd white washing,you could think such authors hate humans and want to be edgy.Given there are evil Humans that are not less worse than monsters but those are the exception not the rule,most Humans are Neutral to Slightly good.

It depends if you mean the japanese one or the newest one.

The japanese one have layers and was more deliquent while its still clear that most demons are indeed evil , instead of the new one which is sooo hamfisted its unwatchable .

But we can put the animated DMCs aside and its still shows that demons are mostly evil and some are neutral or rarely even friendly . But it stays with "demons are naturally evil and wanna rule over humanity " . Small exceptions are alright but making it universal just cheapens story very much .

A trope that comes in many forms ‘Inside a computer’, ‘Brain uploaded’, ‘Your Mind Makes It Real’, essentially person stuck in/ plot takes place in virtual world. In my mind at least it’s just ‘it was all a dream’ with a chrome coat.

Especially irritating when it’s the big plot twisty, instantly takes me out of it, and spoils everything established. Makes everything feel a bit meaningless no matter what - since now there’s a that big ‘it’s a program’ sign with all its implications hanging over it now.
