What makes you say fuck I am Old ?

I played DOOM with just a keyboard.
The first phone I used was a rotary landline.
I went to a middle school (something which I gather isn't really a thing anywhere anymore)
I used a walkman
I was raised on music cassette tapes.

On the rare instances I speak to someone under the age of 25, I feel a real disconnect in our lived experience. They see an older person, as I see a younger one.

Being able to say I've lived in two millennia is pretty cool though.

This, playing Doom with a keyboard and the arrows.

May sound stupid but it took a little while back then to use qsdz+ mouse to play fps games

God bless games that let you re-bind controls so that you could move camera controls closer to one of the Ctrl keys

Looking at some of my leftover clothes(Some still kicking from the late eighties early nineties).
Class pictures and my baby face of those years.
Playing space invaders, galaga and other arcade classics of the late seventies to the early eighties.

Something strange happens to me: when I'm feeling down and lost in thought, I feel old, but when I'm happy and carefree, it's the exact opposite.
The same when I play a old Game of mine, than I feel young until I stop playing it than it has the opposite effect.

Usually, when I have to do work I don’t enjoy or feel forced to do, I think about the little gaming break I’ll have afterward as a reward, and that usually helps. But it also works for moments of pure leisure. Most of the time, it works...

The moment when i play an classic xbox game , look at the title screen , look at the year under its title and feel ancient ....

Basically this. I was still an adult 20 years ago. Everything was 20 years ago. I measure my life in how many "20 years ago" things were. Still playing games though, so things worked out alright.

It is that time also moves fast without us realizing it.

I remember how the world was before Minecraft came out and now it's such a monumental part of videogame culture and you see it everywhere... I remember when they first added Horses even...

Another one, remember when we used to share funny videos over Bluetooth? And we would watch them on teeny tiny flip phone screens? Yeah...

In one year from now FFXII will be 20 years old. The game can drive me around or drink right now depending the country.

I sold my original red brick GBA SP to my coworker that while I replaced the battery out of goodwill was still functioning and color intact minus a few scratches on top. I've made references that millennials get with me and the generation younger that just gives me blank stares.

Time moves on but I don't think this generation really notices how much technology has made leaps over the past 50 years and feels like it only has plateaued with micro advancements but I hear the occasional snide at 2D graphics or early PS2 3D titles when I pull out my Steamdeck and play for nostalgia. Even vanilla Skyrim which is 14 now can elicit some questions of how old is that? Well kid how many games you got on that PS5 that aren't from the PS4 with updates?
