The FC/NES version is based on the arcade but in 8-bit because in the MD/GEN version it is different from the Arcade especially because of the level design although the Remake looks like the Arcade but in HD (although I have not played the Remake).

For being the first KOF game it is fine although the saga was improving with the passage of each sequel especially '97 and '98 that were the peak of the KOF saga in the '90s.
I understand you although Tekken 2 is a good fighting game along with the PS1 port that is faithful to the Arcade and Dynagears is Decent even though it only came out in Arcade.
That's amazing that an Arcade was at a party even though it was rented yes, and it's good that you started with the Street Fighter EX although my favorite is the Street Fighter EX2 Plus (1999).
Here in Brazil we had SO MANY Arcade cabinets of Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition at parties! I remember one place that had a room only for arcades, and they had like 4 machines of Street Fighter 2, and they were always being used in the two parties I went xD

For the first Mortal Kombat of 1992 from Arcade, it looks good, especially in introducing the Finishing Moves, also known as Fatalities.
