What do you miss the most about "the internet of old"?

The fun of seeing things made by people, even the weird shit. Maybe someone wanted to make a website dedicated to eradicating squirrels, they could and did!

The internet was pretty neat, before everything was products and ways to buy them.
Hmm, wasn't that the woman who was a mod here? She has now deleted her profile as well. ::thinking

The fact that users could get together and effectively run trolls off the sites, while the mods looked the other way because they wanted them gone just as badly.

Was it good? God no! But it was a self-preservation kind of thing that's deeply missed these days.

Flash websites, definitely. I can go to some like Sonic Central on the Wayback Machine, but it doesn't hit the same, especially since the music player doesn't work. I miss the personality, everything moving or making a sound when you hover over it

A lot of what you've seen here already. But another thing, scrolling down, and eventually hitting the bottom. There used to be an end of the page. Seems silly but, the lack of focus modern social media has is so annoying. It just guesses what you want and gives it to you, (and often it's wrong) infinitely. Websites were deliberate, you got what you wanted and nothing more. When they were done you didn't scroll onto some other website with some unrelated crap.

I feel like it's insane to want to or have to explain this but one day sites that don't deliver (at least seemingly) endless content will become an experience less and less people are familiar with. You know what I'm talking about, but one day someone will hear that take and not get it.

I miss when there were proper pages in sites, not endless scrolling that loads more and more to the point of freezing the browser.

Sort by oldest should've been an option as well...
