What did you play today?

I finally got to try Sonic Frontiers through my brother's PS Plus while catsitting for him.
Man, this game BLOWS. Everything about it just feels completely pointless. I get that they were going for a sort of sandbox experience, but when every single challenge is a little jumping puzzle or some inane matching minigame, or a really weird fight, it just feels completely hollow. Combined with a truly dogshit nothing of a story, a bland PS3-inspired world, and an incredibly weird and serious presentation who dripfeeds the already nothing plot to you in just about the worst ways possible, and a really sad attempt at a soundtrack (the techno cyberspace music was overall pretty neat, but the collecting of old music to replace the ambient OST just made it feel even more soulless), it's almost offensively boring.

HOWEVER, the controls are just top-notch. Easily the slickest controls in a 3D Sonic game I've ever played, and the movement in and of itself is insanely addictive, so I endured six or seven hours of the game (got to Tails' island) just messing around with the movement until I really couldn't take it anymore.

You should try Shadow x Generations, that game is what Frontiers basically should have been, coupled with the same smooth controls but the game overall being just about right playtime and with far more varied stages

You should try Shadow x Generations
It's on my list! Not sure when I'll get around to it, though, but hopefully one day.
I liked original Generations but I hear the new Shadow stuff is way different?

Controls differently, and has abilities like chaos control, the mini-hub that's similar to Frontiers but less bloated and more downsized. And yeah, if you liked Generations, it's basically more of that (and a good OST to boot)

I started the Tales of Phantasia remake on PS1. It's the only Tales game I've ever been able to tolerate for more than a few hours, and I think part of that is because it reminds me of emulating it in 4th grade (and later in middle school playing the crappy GBA remake). Still never beat it though so maybe I'll remedy that this time around. The original SFC release is no doubt a swan song for the console tech-wise but I always found the palette to be slightly washed-out so I prefer how the PS1 remake looks. Amazing soundtrack too.

Not a big Sonic fan but from what I saw it looked like the worlds were huge and empty with a bunch of typical Sonic obstacles (rails, jump/speed pads, etc) strewn about. It also seems like a massive missed opportunity to design the islands as generic biomes rather than themes like casino/carnival/city/what have you.

FE9(Path of Radiance), I'm on a FE run this month, finished FE11-12 last week.

Finally played Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer with two friends now that the last patch is out.

It’s super fun, but I find that I get incredibly annoyed whenever they want to explore because I like having a goal, and that my friend who explicitly told us he didn’t want to lead goes ”hey we should to xyz thing first!” every three minutes.

That’s on me though, not them, because it’s a game about running around in the woods lol

Today I finished Ace Combat 2 (PSX) again, following the B route this time and unlocked the Free Mission mode. There's still two missions left to unlock but that would take finishing the game two more times and I feel like it's time to play something else::eggmanlaugh

Have spent the past couple of weeks binging Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, and I'm still in the endgame for the latter. Found Mordor too hard when it first came out, but having played through all the Arkham games since then and watched an LP by Jadestar, I was finally able to return to it and 'got' it this time around. Shadow of War especially is fantastic and one of my new favourite games.

Cotton 2 was on sale on the eshop so I got it and the lack of auto-fire is gonna make my thumb fall off. Otherwise I've been playing Kirby's Avalanche on and off as a brain-empty kind of game. FFVI has been fun to revisit and it's so cozy playing in bed on my childhood GBA SP, but unfortunately I have the 1.0 model with the so-so backlight.

Gradius, Gradius and more Gradius on the PC Engine emulator. Maybe I can beat it before Christmas ::badpc

Started Lords of the Fallen like 3 days ago, played a bit today. Died last night and thought "yeah, I'll get my shit back tomorrow" then proceeded to load the game up and immediately lost 30,000 souls. This is why I don't play Soulslikes. I'm trying though, the game is cool as hell. I'm a viking named Lorkhar lol.

I ended up replaying some old games today. I put Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake and the GG Aleste games on my DSi XL. The screen is perfect for them, a very nice experience.

(PS I only just noticed that this thread was un-sticked. Why is that? Similar threads on other subforums are sticked.)
because of a limit of how many are allowed to be stickied at a time. There’s a ton of stick worthy ones that cover various subjects, so it’s better to shift around and highlight different new topics. Broader threads like the Megaman, Zelda, FF, Cheat Codes and so on stay stickied longer as those harbor a series of topics within them and aren’t one idea. To keep things fresh tons of stickies get shifted around, and so there’s always a chance to re-sticky certain threads based on activity. Bringing visibility is another point, this thread proved to be pretty findable on its own while some others have risk of drowning, leading to potential duplicates down the line. Of course it’s not all perfect but we’re just having fun at the end of the day. :)

Thanks! Was just curious, but good to know! ::peacemario

Got recommended a video of this MegaDrive game on youtube and it looked charming so I downloaded it and spent the last couple of hours beating it. Obviously using save-states, as these games are pretty unforgiving. One of the few MD games I've ever played and the first one I beat lol

Apart from trying out Oblivion for an hour, I've been playing Breath of the Wild on Cemu.
I don't want to play around with mods too much (yet) but it's really nice playing it with 60fps and 1080p with headphones on.

I'm trying out 10x durability, I don't mind the mechanic, but it's my like third or fourth rodeo with this game, and higher durability helps me use low-level weapons longer, which is a bit more fun than just upgrading super fast, imo.

played a good amount of limbus company today (technically yesterday since it's 1 am but still), i always start slacking when the intervallos roll around and have to rush when it's almost time for the next canto

Well I played hack//G.U. Last Recode Rebirth on the ps4 in the Collection. I am pretty much still in the beginning of the game,i wonder how long it will take until i finish the Game as i expect another Game already that I ordered,Pocky Rocky Reshrined Ps4 the Japanese Version I hope it arrives today. Its always such tough question do i start playing the Other Game right away or do i wait until i finished Rebirth first ?.I have to try out the Game Pocky Rocky Reshrined anyway if it works i hope my Disc reader in the Ps4 doesn't scratch the CD like it did with Dragon Quest XI wich was pretty much 20 Euro flushed down the Toilet for me as i could not play it anymore. So i hope for the best.

Been trying to 1cc Puyo Puyo 2 and the closest I've been is stage 17 ::peek

I've been replaying Oblivion a little each day, and today I've restarted Sekiro in order to get the last two achievements and scratch my ever-present Samurai (I know he's a ninja) genre itch.

Man, this game BLOWS.
Blame Breath of the Wild. After its runaway success every Japanese GameDev has hopped onto the boring open-world unreal asset looking garbage genre.
