What developers you currently trust?

The thing is, like a lot of other people have mentioned here, in general older developers have been bungling up recently, in part because through the years companies generally change a lot and pivot to new strategies, or they just don't make games I really like. I think Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture have been making very interesting games for a long while, but they're just not my cup of tea in general.

I loved Blizzard, old Blizzard. But now it's all about selling games in chunks, retention of players and monetization.

Capcom also isn't making games I feel very interested in. Resident Evil for me was at its best when focused on the Raccoon City outbreak and on classic zombies. Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry were never my jam. The og Dragon's Dogma is alright, although it was grind heavy and having a fundamental feature, trading pawns, behind the online subscription on consoles left a bad taste. And the technical performance and support of their last two games has been pretty iffy.

I come to trust developers based on their output, not their age.
But it's impossible you only trust games from 2019 onwards. It's like saying you only trust animes from 2019 onwards, and the old ones do not count. That is more a statement from someone that started watching anime, and only new anime.

It's not impossible. I've changed and seen too much I don't like, and also new games are very expensive and nowadays, generally, not that thrilling. So I am cautious in what I trust.

And in prior comments there are people who don't trust any developers at all.

You should review your assumptions.

My top two right now are probably Grasshopper and Falcom. I think the latter tends to have some up and downs from time to time, but right now they seem to be doing a good job

Other devs I can think of while going through my games: WayForward, Inti Creates, FromSoft, Team Cherry, Capcom, Retro Studios and Monolith Software. I'm sure there are more but I can't recall now

Two companies I consider special cases:
- Konami. I wouldn't say I trust them but they definitely are doing better lately, if they keep at it they might regain a lot of trust lost in the last 3 or so generations. A Silent Hill collection of the original games (that doesn't suck like the 7th gen one) would probably help a lot
- Nintendo. I trust them development-wise, they can make fun and interesting games. But I don't trust the corpo side of it, as in, the one in charge of the dmca's, setting game prices, never fixing/improving online infrastructure, replacing the virtual console for the NSO apps, etc etc

Not trusting anyone is more logic than just trusting new devs. Because of opportunity, there are thousands more devs that come from long time ago than devs that come from recent times. It's like I said "I don't trust cars that are not made in 2019 or newer", because yes, it's impossible any car from 2018 or older was a good car.

Warhorse Studios. I am hopelessly addicted to Kingdom Come Deliverance right now.

I trust the output. And older companies changed to something i don't like anymore and/or I changed and don't trust them.

Nihon Falcom

Nihon Falcom Corporation (日本ファルコム株式会社) is a Japanese video game developer, best known for their Ys, The Legend of Heroes, and Trails series. They are credited with pioneering the action role-playing and Japanese role-playing game genres, as well as popularizing the use of personal computers in Japan.

Tamsoft I enjoy, but I don't play every single game from them. They still tend to treat their customer right most of the time.

Holy crap!

I realize while I was searching for a way to end the joke with the actual companies I trust, that I really just doubt all of them.

wow... gaming have truly fallen.

All the big ones certainly don't seem very trustworthy. The small ones seem pretty alright though, until they get swallowed up and deleted by the big ones...

i wouldn't readily trust any developer. every one of them could or may have done something shitty or made a mistake. at the very least their next title may not be as much of banger as the last.

That's why it's important to keep an eye open on what they release next.

So, it means these you now trust you will end not trusting in the future, because again, as an opportunity matter, they will screw things up. That also makes sense, and it's in a way the same as "I don't trust anyone".

I'll most likely come to trust others.

How do you know the ones you trust won't do something stupid so you will untrust them afterwards? if you tell me you won't, you're lieing, because that happened with the old ones.

Do you realize you went into a neverending scenary, don't you? :)

Like many others have stated, I ain't trust nobody like that, but if you put a gun to my head and said I had to pick one, it'd probably be Ghost Ship Games (Deep Rock Galactic).

Yes. It's how life is. Ever changing. The same happens with every other type of goods. People are frequently changing brands.

It depends on how much integrity do you have. Food tastes, clothes, cars or even electronics can "never change" if you keep your integrity 100% untouched, regardless of what happens in the world.

So, it is all related to personalities, we are all different :)

Dread XP. Not all of their games are amazing by any stretch, but they almost always offer something interesting for the horror fan to sink their teeth into.

also, The Super Flash Bros. They're still around post 'Decline of Video Gaming' and they made Crow Country, a fucking awesome call-back to PS1-era survival horror games. So yeah, if you've ever wondered what SFB games stood for, now you know.
