Weird, unsuccessful franchise reboots

True ?
It’s a nice game… I’d say Nintendo should re release but they’d probably charge 6,000,000 million dollars for it.
To be honest a full package with the pedestal costs an arm so even for 60 bucks if there is a gyro control and twin stick being used I think it would be almost worth it imo.

Kid Icarus Uprising but it's not a "reboot" per se.
I think it's fair to call a reboot even despite sharing the same continuity and making references to the old game. Pit did recieve a redsign and the gameplay is completely different.

Now that I've mentioned Pit, time to post a obligatory pic of him.

I'm kinda waiting for Nintendo to make a remaster or to get a powerful enough PC to emulate this game, since playing on a 3DS isn't exactly pleasing.

I do enjoy the NES game.

I managed on a New 2DS XL but next time I'll upscale it on PC as well.

The NES one isn't that easy imo. I would love a colour hack of the GB sequel/port.

Kid Icarus Uprising but it's not a "reboot" per se.
1986, 1991, and 2012.
3 games
26 years.
it might as well be a reboot with that much time and so few games. i only knew about kid icarus because of brawl and sonic for hire. pit could have straight up been an oc for the smash series as far as most people would have know, considering the unlikelihood of anyone knowing him before playing the game.

But even that won't give you the full experience – KI:U had loads and loads of cute little extras, like the AR cards or Streetpass rewards, that you could only get on original hardware. Great online multiplayer, too! If only it was on a console that had a decent second analog stick, there's no doubt in my mind that it would be massively-celebrated. They should remake it for Switch 2!

Say what you want about this reboot, but it was anything but unsuccessful — they got loads of sequels and a movie out of it! I never knew anyone who actually played the games, but clearly that Lara had at least something of an audience.

Of all things, my aunt actually complained to me about Lara’s redesign — she hated it! (She was a big fan of the originals.) I don’t really like it either… it kinda took out what made the character interesting (boobs).
Ha, that was my mom's first reaction: 'They made her smaller, I don't like it'

Both you and @Gorse mentionned chest size and family members, and that's funny, because I have a very similar story. My mother was up-in-arms about Alicia Vikander's casting in the reboot film, because she wasn't "well-endowed enough, like Angelina Jolie was", even though the latter was wearing two bras during shooting. But I'll be honest: for her figure, I still think in-game Survivor Lara is pretty damn well gifted in that way, the design just tries for more realism than either the Classic or Legend era did. She even wears compression gear in Shadow of the Tomb Raider! Technology has come so far.
i've been seeing this a lot lately on youtube whenever games like bayonetta or stellar blade are mention or anime in general. apparently women in general like busty curvy babes.

Kid Icarus is a weird case, technically Of Myths and Monsters on the GameBoy is a sequel yet is functionally a port of the original game since outside of the dungeon layouts it's the same game. It just has a different antagonist (therefore last boss battle).

So yeah, Uprising is a reboot/sequel. And like Fire Emblem Pit's design basically is from Smash like how Roy was in Melee before his debut Fire Emblem game.

I was so bummed out by Turok 2008. It was a linear COD-style FPS where dinosaurs would constantly knock you back on your ass. It was very annoying to play. I actually liked Evolution.

Thief was another disappointment. I didn't hate it like I did Turok since it had its moment, however the open world was so poorly designed and confusing to traverse. Dishonored had just come out previously and did everything it did better.

I actually liked the Bionic Commando and DmC reboots.

I'm not vibing Origin.

I would love to see a NightDive remaster of Evolution.

Wait, I could scan these little card things before I gifted the game to someone else? ::sadkirby

I did try to play the multiplayer for the short period I had the game, unfortunately the matchmaking didn't find anyone since it already was late 2015

I guess that suits a more serious tone the reboot games were going for, but the original sure makes a more appealing video game character.
I'd be (slightly more) fine with it if there was more to her characterization. Lara Croft had a lot of texture to her character all throughout the Classic era. She was willingly putting her life on the line despite being fuck-off amounts of rich, she had a secret room just for her favorite raided tchotchkes, she knew she was hot, she was a recognizable face in-canon. In the first game, the first we see of her in close-up is only after we see a magazine cover wherein she had killed Bigfoot and posed with its dead body. There's something there beyond the... Well.

As it stands, we have an incidentally-really-hot-college-girl-dont-worry-about-it and nothing going on in between those eyes. And she gets hurt a lot, I guess. I was so excited to see her with visible muscle definition in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, because it was at least something.
I’ll be honest, I think nu-Lara is still really attractive
Oh don't worry, she was designed that way, reboot or no reboot. Absolutely no ill-will intended, but it's pretty funny how quickly people will go "but she's still hot though!" when you say something along the lines of "her breasts aren't above the 90% percentile for her size".

Origins just looks like a reskin of World War Z and Space Marine 2. Saber seems to be taking the World War Z template and just applying it to the other games they work on. That said, their games aren't bad. Most people seemed to love Space Marine 2. I liked it -- though I must admit, I preferred the first game. Given their prior work, Origins has a chance of being good, but it's not what I want out of Turok from what I've seen.

?well, like I said, i don’t know what gorse’s stance was, so I can’t disagree with what I don’t know, I was just stating a random thought in my head, nothing deeper than that, I’m not an Tomb Raider fan, and I’ve said modern games are quite difficult to play, guardians of the galaxy is currently giving me a migraine ??

That series wasn't known in the West at all when the reboot dropped, but Glory of Heracles is another. I played the fan-translated versions of 2 and 3 before that; 2 is one of the few NES RPGs I like, and 3 is a really good SNES RPG. I thought the DS GoH was lame. The storytelling didn't grab, the visual style was weird and unappealing. Didn't revive the series either.

As much as it pains me, unfortunetly Shin Sakura Wars didn't reingnited interest on the franchise as Sega hoped. It's a soft reboot of the series. The game is fine but it went from a SRPG to a pretty middle of the road Hack' n' Slash. Story is your pretty typical anime fare but characters and music are great tho. A solid 7/10 worth of your time if you are in a mood to play interactive anime with some mild Hack' n' Slash mixed in

I gonna cheat a little and also mention Valkyrie Elysium. It's not a reboot of the Profile series but it was an attempt to revitalize interest in the Valkyrie franchise. It ended up as a generic Hack' n' Slash.

I think the main lesson here is: don't try to reboot your franchise by making it Hack' n' Slash

Or, if you’re going to do it: DO IT WELL AND DONT DO IT TO TRY AND CASH IN ON A MARKET WHO DOESNT WANT YOU SERIES IN THE FIRST PLACE!

All the worst reboots do this: they take an IP and try to FORCE IT to appeal to an audience that isn’t going to look its way regardless of how you change it. So, in the end, you just end up alienating older fans with very little added benefit.

It’s usually best to embrace the audience you already have during a massive gameplay transition, because they’re the people who are going to control the narrative around a reboot. Not the new people.

I liked it ?

it literally condemned rare to kinect hell so yes I'd say it was unsuccesful
What’s worse is, all these years later, it’s become clear that it wasn’t Microsoft who’s to blame for the dissolving of Rare’s talent. The studio itself made the poor choices that led them to where they are now.

It’s sad to know that nobody inside of Rare itself wanted to make more colorful platformers, because that’s really what their audience wanted from them, but it seems they weren’t all too interested in doing that.
