A game designed for Nintendo DS (which created many touch mechanics based on it) was ported to Sony's handheld due to low sales on competing console.

The problem is: "Liberty" and "Vice City Stories" already existed on PSP.

Did Rockstar ever consider that releasing a graphically inferior GTA at that time would be a mistake?

Konami imposed the PS2 and PSP ports because it lacked faith that exclusivity would generate sufficient profit (and because many Latin Americans still had PS2s at home in 2009).
They were right about the last part. If it wasn't on the ps2 i would never have played the game (my first Silent Hill game). Thanks Konami from the past

Edit: the PSP port was a different case.

Climax Studios' idea was to create a Shattered Memories tie-in starring Michelle Waldez (one of the characters not in Silent Hill 1) and develop her within that tie-in, which would be released for PSP.

Konami deemed this idea too expensive (for a game they didn't have much faith in) and canceled the tie-in, allowing only a port of original game for PSP.

It wasn't graphically inferior, it just had a different style. I'd argue Chinatown Wars is the better game among the three, even better than San Andreas 2 (aka VCS).

Selling drugs was too good (in-game)

I feel that trying to make a PS2 styled game for the PSP with its limited power and control scheme ended up making it less effective than playing the actual PS2 games...

I still find it impressive but still limited sadly.

I agree that you lose touch screen features but seriously, do we really like all touch screen gimmicks in our games? Especially via emulation.

Depends, some are fun but others are a pain in the ass

I enjoyed it for DS but I imagine there probably was more limited appeal on the PSP when put next to other games including ones from the same franchise that were in full 3D. Still I'm grateful for the PSP version existing now as it would be slightly easier to play from an emulation perspective. The small bit of extra content in that version is also nice.

I play it on my DS, so yeah baby 😎

I haven't played it on PSP, but it ruled on DS.

I can't imagine it being that much worse on its home turf of a Sony machine.
