Underrated games...

Kagero: Deception 2 is an action strategy game where the player's required to set up traps and activate them at the right time to defeat enemie. It has a branching storyline with mutiple choices that affect the narrative and the game's ending. It's also pretty fun to combo enemies using different types of trap.

Bulletstorm is a sci fi firt person shooter that rewards players for killing in creative ways, it was releases in an era when every game tried to be either CoD or Battlefield, but while it took some features from those games, it pretty much broke the FPS mold of the time and gave the player tools to go crazy.

I feel like The Finals is too unique not to enjoy the recognition it deserves, a very fast paced objective foccused online first person shooter with completely destructible maps, and I don't mean the destructible elements have pre-set animations that will play once you destroy them, no, all walls and buildings have actual dynamic physics and will crumble in different ways depending on the method used, and this plays a key role in gameplay, it's amazing to see it in action.

Silent Hil 4The room was the last game in the Silent Hill series developed by Team Silent, and it tries to break away from many of Silent Hills tropes while still preserving it's identity.

For a AAA horror game it's very experimental and isn't afraid to "hurt" the player with it's punishing game mechanics.

Many criticize this game's unbalanced difficulty due to it's focus on combat and escorting segments, but I'd argue this to be the esiest game in the original 4 if you understand how the game works and what it expects from you. You're supposed to take it slow most of the time, use every tool in your arsenal and adapt, not rush through the game and bruteforce you way to the next check point.

During the escorting segments many people will just run and expect the character they're escorting to keep up when she can't run, many will not give her weapons to prevent her from fighting enemies when she's pretty good at defeating them as long as she's facing only one, many will try to avoid fights when some weapons will literally give the player 100% damage immunity during heavy attacks, plus all the ammunition the game just showers the player with.

Silent Hill 4's biggest flaw is it's failure to ease the player into it's gameplay structure, your first playthrough will probably be miserable because the game just fails to explain stuff to you.

These are a few games I think are underated.

Any competitive ArenaFPS. People always say the best things about how Quake 3 arena is so cool, how Quake Live is so fun, how Quake Champions is better than all those online FPS games nowadays yada yada yada, but no one actually plays them. C'mon people, hop on the arena, the community is great(unless you play clan arena in Quake Live), it doesn't matter if you are bad, the game is fun as hell, people don't mind, just strafe jump and bhop to eternity at mach speed and shoot some rockets, zap some rails. From 5-6pm forward you are for sure going to find matches in NA, weekends is games all day baby, and if you are from Europe you have it good my friend, Europe loves Quake. I will play this genre for all my life, doesn't matter if there is only 2 people on the servers

I'm currently playing a psp game called 7th Dragon 2020 and it's soooo good, I don't see many people talking about it, it's a turn-based rpg with a chibi style and customizable characters, you can choose the class, appearance (there are 10 standard models) and even choose the VA! And there are well-known names like Yui Horie, for example

there is also a direct sequel for the psp and a third game on the nintendo 3ds (there was already a game in this same saga made for the nds)

oooh i have played the re-volt mobile games and they are very good indeed
yesssss this series is my roman empire

I think these are more "underhyped" than "underrated". An underrated game isn't an hidden gem or an unpopular title, it's a game the most people who have played it didn't appreciate enough or downright hate it.
I'd say that that Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings is an underrated game, especially these days.

Alright. I got home and took photos of around 14 games in my collection that I just don't hear people talk about. For the sake of your sanity and mine, I'll narrow it down to just the ones I'm most passionate about the thread trying out.

Re-Volt for the Dreamcast and PC is great, but no one ever talks about it.
I Doubt It. Unlike Stunt GP (Re-Volt was actually its only good competition in the 3D remote car racing sub-genre) Re-Volt is well remembered, normally available on GOG and Steam, and was also once available on iOS. And it got 2 sequels - Re-volt 2 for PSX and PS2 and, years later, Re-Volt 3 for iOS/Android (unfortunately also no longer available).

an underrated game you said? heh if you are into RTS you would know that ww2 RTS is like a big part of the genre yeah? company of heroes , the men of war games and more.

what always gets forgotten is a game that helped pioneer the road for both company of heroes and men of war a little game called sudden strike first made in the year 2000 while you usually control tens of units in RTS in sudden strike you got to command armies that can reach up to hundereds of individual soldiers and vehicles and more! All this available in the year 2000 , however I understand why this game was swept away and eventually became forgotten because newer fancy ww2 RTS games came out that brought things like 3d graphics , smarter AI , better pathfinding , cover mechanics so the sudden strike series was becoming less and less unique as time went on it tried to build on the realism aspect of things this meant infantry dies pretty quick 1-2 rifle shots and a man is down! This also meant line of sight (how far units can see) was pretty limited for "realistic purposes" this created a slow paced gameplay that often times became tedious to deal with.

Not like the developers tried to fix it SS2 came out in 2002 and was quite an improvement over the first in terms of tank combat it brought new problems however infantry lost their edge and the tanks were pretty crappy unless it was german tanks the soviets only compete in late war tanks , balance in this series is pretty bad another reason why it would appeal less to more broad fanbase , and not to mention bugs! Its made in eastern Europe and if you know anything about game development there it goes like this

->makes a pretty good idea for a game
->creates much deeper mechanics than western games
->somehow creates a billion bugs that for some reason get unnoticed

In 2005 they release resources war a entry that defeats one of the pillars the game is built on that is the lack of any production this meant you only had a finite amount of troops every soldier killed or tank lost was permanent there is no replacement well resources war says "screw that im adding all these cool buildings" but its not enough why not make it more realistic? Lets add a fuel mechanic instead of attending to bugs and fix the game balance! It goes on and on and you get the point the developers couldn't innovate enough to stay relevant the game being generally more hardcore didn't help and sadly sudden strike got buried under the sands of time and new releases until 2017 when another studio bought the IP and made a SS4 which is generally disliked by older fans of the series.

Other than sudden strike I think system shock deserves a mention system shock 2 a pretty cool game that is a blend of FPS , horror , and RPG it fits all these 3 categories a decent game that sadly came out in a bad time it was 1999 half life just dropped and its expansion pack opposing force will also drop in 99 , silent hill 1 drops and RE3 , final fantasy 8 comes out so in all areas it tried to compete it got dwarfed by more popular titles , its worth a try however the first title got a remake sometime ago too if you want to navigate a space ship filled with a bunch of organic and cybernetic foes trying to solve riddles while being taunted by none other than SHODAN herself a menace of a character and an intimidating villain give it a try its really worth it , I don't want to spoil anything as I like to go into games pretty blind so I want for you to experience that too and reduce your exposure to any spoilers or anything else since its pretty difficult to game today without getting spoilers man...

It's Downhill Domination for me.

That would be Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 for PS2. Everyone always raves about 5, but honestly, 3 is great. People also seem to be sleeping on Risen 2. I only ever see talks about the first game. There's obviously many more, but these two came to mind right now.

For me it's atelier Annie, same goes for other atelier games

Yeah there's a lot of thread about it, like this one. Anyway, my game though would be Donkey Kong for the Gameboy
I played a whole lot of this game as a kid. Upon revisiting it in recent years... it still rocks. Fantastic game.

My contribution will be Last Bible III on SNES. Megaten spinoff traditional JRPG with a mind bogglingly good OST.

i gonna say someting that maybe be a little harsh, 'underated' doesnt mean 'hidden gems', it should mean games that has been 'under' the 'rating' that it deserve, it should mean 'great games that have bad rating under metacritics'

examples stella deus for the ps2 or fifa streets, games that the users ponted better that critics.

fragile-dreams-575111248.jpg

this beautyfull masterpiece was rated as 62 at metacritics.
