Turok is overrated?

It seems they tried to update both gameplay and narrative with a talking companion... and it didn't sit well with the fandom.

Yeah funny how that wouldn't go over well in a series known for solo exploration and environmentally driven story telling. Maybe the devs should have been less dumb.

i think its a pretty neat game. i played the sequel when i was like 3 years old. scared the crap out of me every time i tried to play it.

Replayed the remasters of 1-3 and still enjoyed them. I don't think the first game's overrated, just a game of its time, but still enjoyable. 3 is definitely the most focused of the games, feeling more like a Half-Life game than the prior Turok games.

One of the reasons I'm asking is that Turok relies heavily on more popular franchises instead of creating its own identity (the first borrows elements from Quake, the second from Goldeneye and the third, Half-Life).

i think the thing that really made me shit myself was the monsters the first time i saw a monster in that game my reaction was:

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE TURN THE CONSOLE OFF TURN THE TV OFF UNPLUG EVERYTHING.

I remember frantically attempting the turn off the n64 but i was too scared to even flip the power switch. eventually i managed to press the tv's power button.
