I stopped playing Smite because of player toxicity. I was playing the closed test of Smite 2. They allowed mics but not text chat, and every other match had some asshole talking way too closely to his mic and shouting slurs because the team apparently sucked.
You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.
However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?
Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!
Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...
I think that toxicity is only natural of games that reward high aggression, and within games themselves I do not think there is anything wrong with it. (Swearing excluded if the game is made for kids though, that is up to the mod team) I do not think they damage a game in long-term since well Leagues is still going strong, nuff said there.
But there is a point it goes too far when that behaviour doesn't stay in the game itself. Such as the players who put the L in sore Losers that went out their way to dox or stalk someone that beat them in a game or a player getting harassed for awhile like this one streamer's fanbase couldn't handle he got beat by some girl once so they picked on her. These are points that toxicity is harmful as some forget its only a game in the end. But I blame that on mal-adjusted players who clearly would bring problems anywhere first as there are plenty of rational players who still engage aggression.
For my experience it does pull me away from online games in general I did find fortnite interesting but I couldn't deal with Karen's babies who got mad I lagged or something in long term.
Well I learned over the years bullies are often people that has it bad at homes. Parents that drink or do drugs, or don´t care at all or does shitty ones believe their kids are angels when they are in fact a sociopath.

I know of another web forum where a majority of users have Autism and they are often dubbed the meanest people on the Internet. I think some people just want to be coddled and treated like a kid in kindergarten their entire life on and offline.

The problem is the behavior starts in the game and eventually spills over other branches of life , if it was properly punished and contained this wouldn't happen.
Whenever I think of game toxicity, my mind always goes to the Valorant streamer who had one of her teammates threaten her with something abhorrent. It’s one thing to be CoD lobby levels of bad but if it gets to that point, I’m not gonna turn on voice in that game.

Never had to deal with bullies but damn they seem to deserve an ass beating themselves and i won't feel bad about it.
Thats the sort of toxicity that harms the game man where are the devs?
Yeah some people want positive attention only , worth mentioning seen some of it here

I can't agree with you there when there are plenty of players who know how to control themselves outside of the video games. I think you got it backwards really It's more likely to do with a person's life that spills into the game. (Likely in part an individual was poorly raised by parents who failed to reach how to control their anger or else they would use gaming as a healthy outlet for aggression.)
I use to love offending people in online play. Never about race or sexuality or some mundane bullshit like that. I'd just rag on them for their lack of gaming skills, usually by going on mic and calmly saying something like "Wow, [username here] is terrible. Anyone looking for easy xp, aim for this dude".
"Nice shooting, Kid!" and
"Who let the pipsqueak play?" were always fun to use when speaking to a youngster playing an 18 rated game.
"Who put bots on easy?" etc etc.
Co-ordinating taunts with teammates was always a joy as well.
The best toxicity I ever saw though was from this mythical PS user I found on a Dark Souls 3 group called "Estonian Mafia". This one guy would upload gameplay of him beating n00bs with total ease, legitimately. And all to often, these sore losers would dm him with pure salt, saying stuff like: "Y u gotta cheat F@#_#£?".
To which he would then respond with about a paragraph or two of the most eloquent prose I've ever read, insulting them, their gameplay, their upbringing and their future life prospects. Then he'd upload the message chain to the group.

Counter strike as a whole not just CSGO suffers from hackers and an overwhelming number of non English speaking russians , one time i played counter strike source and joined a random server , it was full of Russians/Ukrainians who kept speaking nonstop and spraying weird stuff like putin and Russian flag or something like what the hell? Where are the big tittied anime girls everyone uses as their spray? Anyway 1 hour later my head was like earth in orbit just going round and round due to all the Russian words i heard nonstop at that moment i was gonna throw every slur i know and invent new ones the moment i saw a russian person online I'm over it now.
I would go on to troll Russian players in half life deathmatch
I generally avoid argumentative people if it's something mundane and not really on a topic you're willing to die on a hill for. I rarely chat with anyone unless they address me first. I guess my Catholic upbringing won't let me since If I annoy someone, I believe I'll pay for it one way or the other.
Man im getting sick of the word toxic just call them what we use to call them assholes. And I met my fair of assholes I been called all manner of things I been told they gonna F my mom and so on. But it does not phase me I been bullied all my life to the point of almost ending my self. What so random muppet says in a CoD lobby is pure nothing I just laugh and ignore it.
If you can´t handle some asshole on internet how are you handling real life ?? Real life has 1000 times more assholes than a CoD lobby every have. If you can´t handle some one calling you C or G or N then how do you survive the real world ?
Yeah I sound mean but man this excessive nagging about asshole will not do anything the only way they go away is if you remove freedom of speech or bury them 10 feet underground.
People need tougher skin. As I said I been bullied to the point of almost ending my self but im not crying when some one call me the R word. Don´t let the shit get to you.
Learn to ignore, Mute and don´t watch chat I played mmo games for 20 years and for the past 10 I always closed or minimized general chat/world chat because people are bloody shit.
Be angry at me how much you want but I been in the DEEP DEEP Dark but it did not make weak it taught me how to deal with it. If you gonna handle real life you better taught it up life is not fair and never will be.
Or you can ban ever single one that pisses you of or remove freedom of speech and hang assholes.
I mean if you wanna turn in to reddit that Ban you for saying Shit or the F word or ban you when they don´t agree with you be my guest
There was an old saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Old sayings had plenty wisdom. Serious lack of that in todays world.

Yeah for sure and I will say with all honesty I rather take some one calling me all manner of things than get a physical beating I got in school.
I saw I similar topic earlier today and I started to think man so many people seam to think online gaming has become very toxic. I played mmo games sense 1999 I played almost all of them I also played allot of CoD and BF and so on. I honestly play more games online today than single player.
Yet I rarely see toxic chat or hear it. Sure very few times you have some one raging a bit saying some dumb crap
So it got me thinking either people today are looking for toxic player to see how many the can spot.
Or they have the worst luck in the world.
Or what I honestly think they are doing over reacting for any bad word. Oh that dude said the F word my good he must be toxic as hell.

I think it's all about control. They want to make a small issue into a big deal so they can bring in Digital ID, Hate Speech laws, etc. Lunatics are running the asylum unfortuanately.

i saw in my notifications that RepoOnly quoted my last post but it is being shadowbanned and I cannot see what He/She has said. This will probably be shadow-banned too.
I never turn on voice chat for one reason, I'm GOING to bitch out my teammates. I play a lot of Gears of War, it's inevitable I'm going to get pissed. And sometimes, people need to be bagged lol.
I think it depends. I've never hated trash talk, sometimes it gets me pumped to actually start locking in, but once you start throwing slurs and saying abhorrent shit it's a bit much. Funny to listen to the crashouts for me, but I know some people really do get hurt by it, and they should be able to enjoy the game the same way everyone else is without being attacked for how they play.
I miss how it used to be in games where the good players would try to teach the new inexperienced ones. Now people are just happy that they are able to make the game miserable for you. It makes games bleed players too.
Modern COD I'd say is much worse than old COD regardless of what the COD community tells you. I cannot stomach new COD not just because of that but other reasons I won't get into. It's just an example of what I mean. Nobody wants to play a game that toxic.
The only online game I played is Ragnarok Online, and I used a few private servers, but there was one I liked very much, and where I made a few "gaming friends".
I played as a girl, of course, but I was one of the people who used to defend the weak. As a Wizard, it was sometimes difficult, because I was weak against archers and the server was full of them, and once one guy got pissed because I killed him before he killed a poor novice.
From that very moment, everytime he saw me he used to kill me. I wasn't pissed off, because I used to laugh, but once I told him I would kill him nonstop for a day if he didn't stop killing me and he laughted.
Then I contacted one of my friends in there who possesed a Golden Thiefbug Card and other friend who had +10 in all equipement I needed. After that, the poor thing couldn't kill me in time before he was already dead. Then he changed to a Wizard he had (I knew it), thinking he could pay me with the same medicine, but found out that the most useful spell was nullified by the Golden Thiefbug card lol. There was no way he could get that card, as the chances were 0,01% for the MVP to drop it, and the MVP was respawning every 2 hours.
He also knew the owner of the Golden Thiefbug Card was a crazy Monk and almost any class has anything to do against a Monk with a Golden Thiefbug Card. If strong enough, they can one hit kill any other character with a skill they have.
At the end, I told him to settle things up, otherwise I would hunt him every other day and he agreed.
I was enjoying the game so much that we became friends after a few weeks, because I used to sit on public squares at towns and we kept talking and talking. I used to do that more than fighting :).
I made so many friends that many of them used to join me when I told them I was going to kick some MVP's ass. They were so happy to join me because I was treating all of them equally, even if they were not very good at fighting. What made me happy is that they decided to come along.
That's why I think even if you meet a dumbass, if that person really likes the game and wants to have fun, you will eventually get along with it after they know you.
I've yet to run into toxic players that aren't extremely over-the-top with their insults. Listening to someone crash out over a shitty mic is funny to me, and laughter tends to piss them off even more.
Other than that, the toxicity that does get to me is in MMOs. I've always mained the healer role and the entitled, deranged behavior I've witnessed in my time is unreal. I know I play well, so I don't care about insults aimed at me but I loathe seeing others get torn down by people who are, at best, sub-mediocre at the game but think they're God's gift to the party. I swear, co-op play brings out the worst in people.
i do not really experience what i think people call toxic behaviour in games
at most i find it a little awkward and strange and someone asks for pictures of my feet with syrup poured on them, but even then, i think they are trying to be funnymen and not mean
made the mistake of bringing in this lady. she was loud, obnoxious, and just plain painful to be around. wiped so many times because of her and she kept getting angry and making passive aggressive remarks.
whenever she's mad at another player she wouldn't approach them first but wanted me to resolve things for her.
i coudn't even call her out cos she's got like 7 mental illnesses that to me, is brought up whenever convenient for her and act as a shield for her to hide behind whenever someone wants to call her out.
adhd, ocd, autism, depression, anxiety (idk what else i just zoned out)
eventually she left the guild, along with her friends, and her son. they were all great except for her. we were a small guild, so once they left, some did too, since we didn't have the numbers to raid.
it's put me off playing wow for many many months now. i havent logged in at all because it gives me so much anxiety because i have to go back and recruit and i don't want to bump into anyone like her ever again
