Simple thread, I want to hear what RGT has to say about the console. I'll be up front, I'm writing a article on the DS and I want to hear what the people think about the handheld, it will help me to write a more concise article.

The DS had a great library, especially since the smaller studios opted to develop for it instead of the main consoles like the PS3 at the time. I had the DS Lite, but I wished the buttons and the D-pad were a bit bigger. Couldn't play it for more than an hour at a time.

Loved it and still do. When I was a teen it was THE handheld! My favorite model is the Lite. I skipped the DSi back then because the GBA slot was still a big deal.

I have a DSI XL love the little thing <needs a new top screen, starting to get yellow and dim toward the bottom of it. Neat little system. have had this one for about 5 or so years.
Twilight broken as well. have a 64 GB SD card to use for ROM's kinda full to XD
Have a few nes/snes and SEGA gen games on it. Lot of GBA, and about 30 or so DS games

Looks fine tbh, I can't see the yellowing that you mentioned (maybe because of the image quality). Still better than the Vita 1000 that gets copper borders because the system overheats and it literally burns the screen (I kid you not).

Pretty sure that's a DSi, the DS looked like this:

The DSi was my first console. I got the blue one for Christmas including a copy of LEGO Harry Potter. After a while my dad bought a R4 card, with which I played Sonic Rush and a bunch of other games. Pretty fitting for someone who is now here on this website, I'd say.

I also really liked the multimedia capabilities of it. Playing music, recording stuff, making pictures or videos. Was still pretty young, so the VERY limited internet browser didn't really click with me at the time, as it was really slow and the only thing you could reliably do was browsing Wikipedia.

The multiplayer games were also pretty fun. I remember playing Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics with friends and having tons of it. They did have the OG DS and back then I found it pretty cool and spacey looking. Both great consoles and it's no wonder why Nintendo held on to the dual screen system for so long.

I still got the thing, even though I had a 3DS XL and later the New 3DS XL (those are both sold).

I generally preferred my DSi to my PSP (and new 3DS XL) if I'm being honest, I loved the games on the PSP but the library for the DS is just insane and it's so varied. There's a game for everyone on the DS and the exclusives it had were great, it really felt like Nintendo was willing to experiment with new titles rather than just re-release things.

i still have my ds, but it needs a new battery. i need to open it and check to see the battery's condition. it's never been changed since i've owned it.

I have a thought on holdability.
The earlier models of DS were more compact, but still had a different balance from the more centered Gameboys before it.
I felt like I never got used to how strange it felt to hold compared to the Advance, a problem that presented itself more as the weight of the units increased as did the overall dimensions.

Also, hell yeah. Was gifted a Galaxy Purple 3DSXL for Christmas a few years back and have done the same.

I get that too, the only drawback for me honestly, I have big hands so the size never bothered me, but everytime I wanted to lay on my side and play on it, the off-center mass of the top part made it a little heavy. The top part wasn't heavy, but thanks to simple physics, the lever motion it had caused a considerable increase in weight when playing on the side.

Still got two DS lites here because I didn't have anyone local to trade pokemon with, so I traded them to myself. DS has a great library and the Lite specifically feels great in terms of size and button placement. Got a 3DS as well and I think that's cool also, but I only ever used the 3D in a handful of titles.

Hope it hasn't Leaked, may want to do that ASAP.
The DS is quite possibly the best handheld console of all time. It has a great library of games (all the shovelware notwithstanding) and the models that are backwards compatible with GBA games just made the library even better.
Great Absolutely, Best? Eh dunno about that Chief. To each There own Of course. I found the PSP/Vita actually more Comfy to hold. Library, i will 100% agree the DS has a Massive, and as you said not counting the Crapware games, almost a perfect Selection of games.

If all i had was a DS/3DS <modded of course> to play from now on. i would be perfectly happy TBH
hey Listen!.gif

The original Nintendo DS has been my first console ever, I was amazed by the fact you could "touch" the game, making things happening inside, and you could also blow inside the microphone ("Another Code Two Memories" used those features perfectly and naturally, and that was my first DS game, I saw some screenshots on an advertising paper and I immediately decided I wanted it).
I also loved the aesthetics of the console, that metallic grey is quite elegant and technologic.
Also, it allowed me to (re)play both "Riviera" and "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance" on real GBA cartridges, until then I only played them on emulator on pc but owning them physical has been a joy!
