Dr. Slump was a series I was aware of, but never paid much attention to.

Not until they crossed it over with Dragon Ball for a couple of episodes during the Red Ribbon Army Saga.

What I saw then was something charming and interesting (I laughed a lot at the guy pretending to be Superman and looking straight from the NES game), but I still haven't sat down to watch a single full episode of it.

Should I?

While it is true that forming an opinion of it based on a few episodes from another series is unfair, I remember watching ads for it on TV and thinking that it looked absolutely insane, but not necessarily in a good way — more like it was trying to rapid-fire jokes at you, which is particularly exhausting to me.

But maybe that's the wrong idea... So, please tell me what you think about this one.

Thanks!

I was introduced to Dr. Slump not through DBZ, but through the PSOne game actually, it's one of the prettiest games on the system, the monkey's paw is that it was a horribly simple game with the best parts just being obstacle courses they threw your way after going through various repetition of hide and seek.

It made up for it with an amazing soundtrack, really well written jokes and just being a very cozy time. I have no experience with the anime, but I'm going to one day watch the 90's remake of it.

I've watched/read a little of it, it's genuinely really funny. Toriyama's true talent was as a comedy writer. Last I checked the anime wasn't fully fan subbed yet, but the manga got a full official translation.

OMG! That looks SO CUTE *.*!

This is Toriyama at it's best ( focus on humor and adventure ) alongside some of the earlier parts of Dragon Ball, Pilaf Saga mostly, when it was heavily influenced by Journey to the west.

I watched Dr. Slump few years ago. It was awesome. If you like comedy for kids, you will be satisfied with it. I am also aware of PS1 game, but not played it yet.

Was introduced to it MANY years ago upon seeing Arale appear in Dragon Ball Super.

A couple years ago, I read the first volume of the manga and really enjoyed it. Thinking of going back and finishing it.

I've only read the original manga, but I can say it's one of the funniest pieces of media ever! There's a lot of absurd and silly moments with it, and I think this is one of Toriyama's charms as an artist/writter, and you can feel it on early Dragon Ball and other of his works (Go Go Ackman, Wonder Island, Tomato Girl Detective, Nekomajin, etc.). His art is also top notch as usual

A Classic and something I like more then Dragon ball. But then again I never been big on Shounen.

But I do love Akira´s art style allot both in Dragon warrior and Chrono Trigger.

Read a bunch of the manga. It's such a charmer, and you can see how much of Dragon Ball's personality started with that series. It also felt nostalgic reading it, even though I didn't know anything about it until maybe five years ago. It just has that classic anime/manga flavor that we don't see anymore.

I love Dr. Slump. I actually read that manga before I read the Dragon Ball manga. I was a fan of the DB anime and I saw a couple volumes of Slump in the book store, so I decided to give it a try. I bought every volume that came out after that.

I played through it and wasn't super impressed. The fan translation is excellent but the game play is not the greatest.

Peak comedy, my dumb kid dumb ass never figured Dragon Ball and Arale were connected, but it is still a good comedic show

I watched some episodes and found it really funny. It was cool how the robot girl appear in some Dragon Ball movies as a cameo.

I love Toriyama, but I can't get into Dr. Slump. It's purely gag-oriented, with no real story, so it feels like it's just going nowhere to me. My favorite Toriyama is early Dragon Ball, when he mixes action, adventure and humor, or later stuff with the same vibe like Cowa.
I did play the PS1 game, though, and I liked it a lot. It's an adventure game, so it's just about chilling in Penguin Village, talking to people etc. There are mini-tasks/puzzles and you learn new moves, but it mostly just story and character interactions in a really charming setting. Then at end of every chapter there's a 3D platformer stage, which unfortunately aren't great. But other than that I loved the game.

I remember watching the 1997 anime remake as a kid. Was pretty funny.
I just love that fucking guy.

And the one episode I have watched so far had the police officer and the blonde girl dressed as soldiers and having an actual war — I loved that tons.
