So, once upon a time I made a Japanese email for yahoo.co.jp (because Nintendo account) even though I am European based. Everything was fine and dandy - except today I noticed I can't log in to yahoo jp anymore. I can solve the captcha, give my email and password, but then it asks the security question: a Japanese Post Number... As if I remember what city in Hokkaidou I was registered on.. and sign-in helper doesn't help a bit either because I never added any additional info there. So yeah, I am locked out of my yahoo jp mail. Then I tried to change my email for Nintendo from Nintendo's site - but yes, of course it needs a email confirmation - from that email I am locked out. Nice.
So! I checked and in 6 months yahoo will delete accounts due inactivity so I guess that's it. In six months my Japanese mail will cease to be and so does my Nintendo account from the Japanese side, I have about 50 games from there (most bought from deep sales though), so the loss isn't huge, but still it stings. Thank goodness I haven't anything else linked into my yahoo co jp account.
So what is the point of this thread? It's a Warning, if you are NOT Japanese based, DO NOT use Yahoo co jp email for ANYTHING, because you might be in same position as me and be locked out from account for good.
Why Yahoo jp does this? Well, there's a paid subscription mail that is available for Japanese that won't expire but the free accounts will. So in short, it's money once again. Money. Once. Again.
Be smart, don't be me. Otosou out.
