PSP Thoughts on Crisis Core?

Don't remember the next number, but a lot of Cloud's appearances kind of get muddled together in peoples' minds, regardless of what came first. KH, AC, Dissidia... these are all a brooding, unconfident, ahem, LOSER cloud. And peoples' opinions on this rendition of him just kind of bleed over from appearance to appearance. Personally, not my favorite kind of Cloud either. Dissidia should have had lowpoly snowboarding Cloud.
i'm not too bothered by how cloud is portrayed in games like dissidia and kingdom hearts, as those games are entirely non-canon in the final fantasy vii storyline
that being said i do agree, i would have preferred if cloud's representation in those games was closer to his personality towards the end of the original final fantasy vii game
in kingdom hearts he is standoffish to the point of it being a little silly

no, dissidia is canon.

it is strange to me that fans of the character cloud strife do not seem comfortable with the idea of the character themselves changing or struggling with their circumstances
in the film advent children, cloud is going through a lot and suffering quite a bit physically and mentally, his behaviour in that movie isn't drastically out of character for him as far as the writing goes
his intentions are always good and throughout the film he tries to solve the problems present in the ways he deems most effective
i do not think advent children is particularly good, but this strange notion that cloud as a character is set in stone and cannot change in any respect after the events of final fantasy vii is strange to me

cloud was suffering from geostigma, did not want to expose his illness to his loved ones, and was looking for a cure

That makes sense, I just find it comes off as insufferable when its a character I expect to be a kind of aloof dork. I also don't think Tifa wouldn't try to help him in some way mentally. I feel she's a bit too soft in advent children, though that might just be me

no, dissidia is canon.
ehhhh
while yes i believe the director himself of the original dissidia called the game canon, it contains plot-holes/inconsistencies in some of the narratives of the source games, and naturally in none of the source games are the events of dissidia mentioned (which makes sense as the games came first, and then dissidia)
i suppose i should i have ~i~ do not consider dissidia canon, so i do not really mind

she did about the same as she did in the original game as she did in the movie.

I feel like in the original game she did more to help Cloud (for example, her staying with him when he fell into the lifestream and her almost literally rewiring his mind). She just kind of lets him go off in advent children

it's a bit weird.
it seems that everyone barring ff1 characters are just temporarily teleported to this world and are copied real quick and sent back to their original worlds. or they are kept there and when they permanently lose in the cycle of battle, or win for cosmo's side; they are sent back to their respetive world, most likely with no memories.
only the warrior of light and garland are aware of what transpired in that dimension.

yeah, now that you mention it. i do think she was more proactive in the game than in the movie.

dissidia cloud was probably the closest to his original debut; since the characters barring the warrior of light, are pulled from a random point in their game's story. he acts kind of confused about who he is but accepts that things change over time and that you need to keep moving forward.
been a while since i played the game, but his issue was probably the easiest to solve in the game.

I agree. He's more like late-game Cloud.

What's not like late-game Cloud, is his art. Even when he's written differently, they leaned into that sort of visual depiction. That's why I mentioned it.

yeah, he was the hardest one to pin point down to the exact moment that he got teleported to the mirrored world of ff1. i could tell where all of the others came from during their game's story, but cloud was a bit harder to deduce.

i should replay the dissidia games. i feel like i remember them less well than i thought
i got about a 1,000 hours combined on both of them, so i remember them somewhat well, but that was about a decade ago. so i might be misremembering some stuff.

god i loved this game. i remember the cool clerk at Gamestop let me play his pirated japanese version on his PSP at the register which got me to pre order it xD

i remember playing the ever loving shitting hell outta this game back when it came out, layin on the couch, walkin under some dumb apples. i remember getting to the halfway point right as my mom dropped me off at the bottom of the street at my friends house.

damn. good times.

edit:

i fucking LOVED these games as well, specifically the original one. i remember playing them around the same time as Crisis Core and making up my own scenarios and stories while i paired up people to fight each other. i gave them each their own rivalries and stories to go along with why they were fighting and roleplayed them out. i always tried to make sure that i won xD

of course i didnt know too much about the other Final Fantasys at the time besides X, VII, and VIII because those were the ones in KH xD

i think i only ever played the story mode once, but countless time in the multiplayer/battle mode
lightning was the butter on which my soul was bread. all day every day

that's ironic. i mained the warrior of light. we might be destined to fight one another for the fate of the universe.

that is a good choice. the original famicom final fantasy game is still one of the best in the series. here is a sketching of my heartwork (carcass)
actually i will not post it as people have a history of being mean when i do. i will take a nap now good day

I love the compilation of FF7, I love the new remakes and I've always loved FF7 in many ways despite the fact it's quite dated now, the ps1 original, so I love all the updates and expansions. I even loved dirge of cerberus.

I struggled to get through this game though, and you've pretty much hit every nail on the head for me so I don't need to say it myself.

Outside of maybe enjoying the combat system, I found it a terribly shallow game.
I have to strongly disagree. FFVII was such a nice, self contained story with a pretty bold open ended ending. The compilation of FFVII only served to extract money from old-school fans. They didn't expand the universe in any meaningful way and flanderized the og cast heavily. Haven't played Crisis Core yet, it might be good but Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus were god awful. I don't consider them canon.

One of my favorite PSP games of all time. I never understood the slot machine mechanics, but it didn't stop me from playing it. I was overwhelmingly impressed with the CGI of Advent Children when it came out, so when we got Crisis Core, it was like being able to play FF7 in the amazing Advent Children 3D graphics.

I bought a PSP for that game and for "Dissidia 012", and never regret my decision :)
Of course after those titles I've found many other wonderful games on psp, but I have great memories of FF7CC. I would like to play the remake on Switch, but I'm unsure: yes, it has been revamped in graphics and battle system, but it's like characters, especially Zack, are portraited a bit different than the original version, and though it's HD and all it feels not the same...

I remember I enjoyed the movie "Advent Children", and I've been glad to be able to play "Dirge of Cerberus" via emu on pc (I missed it when I had the ps2); I'm not really expert about FF7 story and universe, though I played the original version of ff7, but: Advent Children has been a great action movie and Dirge of Cerberus a nice shooter.
Then again, I'm not a hardcore fan and I only talk about the movie and the game as they are, not as part of ff7 universe.

I like it on the PSP but i got bored playing the PC release not so long ago.

it is a little strange playing the game on non-portable hardware, as it was designed around the nature of portability
i can imagine the game feeling stripped down and basic if a person had never played the original, but played the recent console/pc version
