Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage PS1 (ONE OF The Most Fun PS1 Games, Pure Fun 3D Action Platformer, PS1)
God this game is fun, it feels like a PG game that feels inspired by Mortal Kombat, and Looney Tunes! It's so fascinatingly demented with its cartoonish violence and the way that you kill creatures and the way other creatures in the game kill each other!

I also can't help but wonder if the way that other creatures kill each other helped inspired Conker's Bad Fur Day.

The last few area between the second boss and the last boss were kinda pants, but the final boss fight more than made up for it. This is easily one of the most fun games I've gone through on the PS1!

Fear Effect (God-Tier 2d Cartoon Style Survival Horror Set in Hong Kong, PS1)

First of all, how come nobody told me that this is cartoon style, this looks awesome!

30 minutes in:

First of all, this game is fucking awesome, and if it keeps it up it's going to be one of the best games I've played all year!

Second of all, this isn't scary so far, it's mostly just dark action. I wanna say that it's about as scary as Cyberpunk 2077 and FF7 Remake, but those actually do have some really scary moments all throughout the experience. What makes this so special however is the really great, dark atmosphere! It's like a really great, dark, serious action movie! It's also possibly the best looking PS1 game I've ever come across.

60 minutes in:

Interesting, they mention blood turns people green and zombielike, and it makes me realize that this game doesn't have blood, but there's explicit ****** via a shower scene. Also, the game does get kinda scary when the zombies get close.

I like the clever use of nudity, where the MC is out of ammo, so she drops the towel that she is wearing, and her ally sneaks up on her enemy and breaks his neck.

90 minutes in:

Oh wow, there actually is blood in this, I somehow didn't notice before.

Seriously, how is this not considered one of the best games on the system? Why has no one ever told me that this is a a must-play for survival horror fans? This very much feels like I'm playing a really great R-Rated cartoon movie!

Damn, you're kind of selling me on Fear Effect. Haha! I've heard mixed things, so I always skipped by it, but this sounds right up my alley!

I've been working through the recent remaster of the Lunar series. I've never played any of them before, but holy crap its environmental art is so gorgeous, and the music is amazing. I'm totally charmed by it - it's been a wonderful panacea during this stressful week.

Wow! Seriously, thank you so much! I shouted the game out on a couple boards on gamefaqs, and people mostly just complained about some fighters that the company behind the game made.
 
Having defeated the von braun corrupted captain and enabled SHODAN to gain control of the alien infested spaceship it was time to ascend into the accompanying ship of the von braun , the UNN Rickenbacker a military ship under the command of captain Diego.

Following a brief skirmish with cyborg assassin and some turrets entering the Rickenbacker proper I'm met with rumblers , however with the pyrokinnesis ability these flesh beasts are dealt with swiftly....as long as they can't reach me that is.

Much fighting took place on this ship , looks like the path to pod 2 which is needed for our task is a little rough..

Sneaking up on a cyborg assassin , looking at my health and psi points i came really a long way ever since the start of the journey.

One of the main objectives when moving throughout this section of the Rickenbacker is to eliminate these uniquely colored eggs , while the usual eggs we grown accustomed to could be ignored , these eggs on the other hand.....they contain the new generation of the alien species a generation that according to SHODAN i have no hope of defeating so before they hatch i got to destroy them.

Preparing to hop into pod 2 , the many is starting to get concerned about our progress as we foiled their efforts again and again with the new generation destroyed and the escape pods that had eggs on them burned down to smithereens the many are starting to send anything and everything at me.....

this church (even if you are going on a light speed travel ship you still gotta pray) contains the only and one real audio log by polito (correction from previous post her name is polito not Paulie) the crew member who discovered SHODAN after system shock 1 events she....well took her own life

Captain Diego corpse....captain Diego is a character that clashed with the von braun captain anatoly , the rivalry or distrust between the 2 captains would be shared by many of the crew members of both ships they kinda didn't like each other....while anatoly was first victim to lies of the many , Diego wouldn't give up so easily you see at first he had an audio log sent directly to anatoly telling him he won't be controlled or told what to do , eventually anatoly would get Diego to join this....hivemind we will occasionally find an audio log from Diego where he either is leaning more towards the many , later he starts regaining his sanity and out of sheer will the legend redeems himself by breaking free from the will of the many , Diego is the son of the man responsible for system shock 1 events so i suspect there is a very good chance Diego resistance to the seductive call of the many came from a place of shame for what his father did and how much he wanted to distance himself from his father , a pretty compelling character really deserves a salute ::bigboss

Now what the hell is that....looks like something is wrapping itself up around the von braun , i can't see the vast empty space only this flesh that's engulfing everything in its path...well we will have to figure things out either way

Currently working my way through Metroid Dread. I love this gd game. It's tough, but its vibes and level design are immaculate. The exploration and combat is exactly what I want from a Metroid. Started last November and have been playing sporadically, but I'm pretty determined to beat it, this go-around!

As we get into pod 2 and reach the escape pods for the Rickenbacker SHODAN gets the bright idea of barging into the body of the many as it's wrapping itself around the 2 connected ships.

This entity is a fully functioning living organism created by SHODAN back in system shock 1 now we undo her "mistake" as she says , still her design for a living creature is utmost impressive , we will find audio logs of a crew member who finds himself here as he explains more and more about how this thing function and he says "SHODAN shouldn't be allowed to play God she is too good at it".

Parts of the von braun can still be found , when you move on this surface a gross fleshy footprint sound can be heard , notice the red light on the crate meaning it's locked and require hacking to unlock.

Approaching a dead rumbler i find quite the creepy detail of a human face....i said previously the rumblers are stage 2 of a life cycle that starts with the hybrids , you would think the face of the rumbler would be in the same place as the hybrid but this says something else...

Apparently this is where the eggs are produced , the many has assigned some midwives here , this one is unaware of my presence , let's put her out of her misery

This egg shaped object IS the many central part , this thing tormented us for so long , they would telepathically communicate with us throughout the game often talking shit straight in your face , however as we get closer to this "brain" they grow more scared of us even offering us an alliance against "the machine mother" this sinister monstrous entity doomed the von braun , humanity first light speed travel ship resulting in the death of possibly hundreds of people , the many despised humans saying it saw what we did to our planet and will eradicate us when we get there....too bad that won't happen , the small orb flying towards the many is the fiery vengeance of the von braun and the Rickenbacker crew this pyrokinesis shot will be the death of the many and thus the hivemind is no more....

Having defeated the many and jumping into where the brain part was we end up in a strange unfamiliar place....this is SHODAN cyberspace , we were warned before that SHODAN may not have the best intentions for us , but she "shielded us away from darkness" so we did her bidding well now that we got rid of her mistake her creation....we are no longer needed , with the power of the von braun speed of light travel SHODAN can ascend into her "godhood" , another person that helped SHODAN was a crew member by the name of Marie , as of now she is dead but she figured the scheme way before us and even messed with SHODAN data core allowing us to hit the artificial beast in its most vulnerable spot , now we journey to end SHODAN just as we ended her creation.

In a rare case i got hit when taking a screenshot , SHODAN puts constant pressure on the player chipping away his health fast thankfully i stocked up on medical kits allowing for a fast and smooth recovery.

With the protective shield around SHODAN disabled with the help of Marie allowing us to fiddle with SHODAN own world , that small orb is what ultimately defeats SHODAN , worth noting the steam re-release updated SHODAN model seen here , thus i figure I'm playing a pre-steam version as the steam one contains a closer look to the cover art.





And so with the SHODAN defeated and her creation destroyed the von braun is back to human hands , she tries to bargain with us offering us more cybernetic modifications and a "real alliance" but who would really trust what a rouge AI would say? We shoot her and end her for good or so we thought....



In the end system shock 2 was a influential game although it flopped financially it will serve as the inspiration of bioshock and even dead space! A hybrid of 3 genres (FPS/RPG/survival horror) system shock 2 offers the player a journey throughout the von braun and Rickenbacker directly serving and working for the interest of the first game villain , speaking of villains "the many" is an amazing entity the game details a lot about how it's life forms are made and how they function , the game worldbuilding is impressive you can read about what each item does and how it fits the game world by clicking a question mark in the inventory mode , the suspenseful soundtrack can be pretty energetic at times (medsci or engineering) or spooky and creepy (recreation) , voice acting is top notch too , system shock 2 got a remaster on steam it's not the same as the re-release version but even more improved! , decent all around game the graphics may be a little dated , the character model pool is rather limited (whether it's blond or black or whatever in audio log the game only has 1 model for each gender in the game)

9/10 an excellent game only thing it lacks is emotional attachment to characters.
 
I was tempted by a cheap Wii U recently and have played a bit of it after repairing it (it is a nightmare to teardown and clean).
A bit of Splatoon on Pretendo and Twilight Princess, which looks fantastic on a CRT. The colours just burst outta the screen.

Maybe that's why I've always thought Twilight Princess looked bad visually.
I just want to add something that really got me going "BWUH" a few days ago. I thought i'd try out Project Zero on the Wii U and noticed that the whole game looked washed out. I then took a look at the Wii U gamepad screen and saw all the visuals, colours, environments etc that was missing from the main display. I spent too long trying to configure this IPS panel but flopped in the end. This gamepad has a better handle on colours and dark scenes over a newer LG IPS LED panel.

Since the CRT is already small I thought i'd grab one of those portable 13.3" OLED displays. Not too expensive, and it's already going to be better than this IPS crap.
 
Prior to replaying system shock 2 i replayed a game that means so much to me a game in which the rise of nazis was prevented , where the Second World War as we know it is no more....during this peaceful period the soviet union will become far too technologically advanced , advanced enough to warrant an invasion of Europe as a whole and this marks the start of an alternate World War 2 where the soviets are the baddies , I'm talking about the one and only COMMAND AND CONQUER: RED ALERT 1 , this game is the sole reason I'm obsessed with Real Time Strategy instead of racing games well i didn't detail my playthrough of this relic as much as i did to system shock but i did capture some more of the important moments.

Starting this with the start of soviets mission 10 , submarines and 2 grenadiers are doing some scouting , I'm in the process of constructing a ore refinery to start harvesting the gold ores near the bridge.

Soviet mission 13 , I'm tasked with the capturing of a valuable weapon for our dear leader Stalin , just starting my base a flamethrower tower can be seen near the ore refinery a radar dome is being setup and my construction yard is doing its block thing when each new building is built.

in this picture a soviet armored fist consisting of heavy tanks and mammoth tanks along with some infantry are engaging allied vehicles , the soviets excel in tank warfare their basic tank the heavy tank is armed with a dual 105mm this tank serves as the backbone of the soviet armies , a soviet harvester is gathering gold in the midst of combat.

At the entrance of the allies base , while well fortified the player is given the soviets ultimate weapon the "iron curtain" it can turn vehicles invulnerable hence the "invulnerability" icon on the UI , the effect of the iron curtain gives the vehicle it's used on a light red or a brown appearance , you are encouraged to use it on the mammoth tanks as seen in the picture the tank leading the attack is a mammoth with iron curtain effect on it , allowing other units to fire at the enemy without the fear of being hit , the duration of the iron curtain is 45 seconds so you gotta hurry up and use every second well.

mammoth tanks engaging allied longbow helicopters although it's supposed to be the most powerful unit in the game it's insanely expensive and very slow along with being slow to fire the tank is rather a money sink than anything else , it's only redeeming factor is it's capable of combating infantry and serves as the only anti air option for the soviet ground forces i was very disappointed in the tank very poor performance and failing to live up to its name as it can be easily destroyed not even being a good damage sponge! The effects of this disappointment will be seen in a later post...

The score screen , stylish and accompanied by a decent victory track this screen details your performance and allow you to save your scores in each mission , gives you playtime and how economic and how much of a good commander you are , well that economy being 3% isn't a good look is it?

Starting off with the allies campaign i will proceed to play some 7 missions without any screenshot XD and then on mission 8 i remember to take some pictures , in this mission I'm tasked with the defense of a special device that can turn the tide of war against the soviets as for 7 missions straight and despite the player victories the soviets sweep through Europe and even invade France! This orange and with cables looking structure is our path to victory , the chronosphere a device that tampers with time itself to teleport vehicles anywhere on the map , you probably realized how much of a devastating device this thing can be if used to teleport things behind enemy lines and such.....the soviets throw everything at it and you have to hold on , even mammoth tanks! Well they are good target practice for my light and medium tanks.

Later on we invade the soviet union itself and are given the task of destroying an operational iron curtain device prior to attacking Moscow , in this picture a platoon of 2 light tanks and 8 medium tanks and infantry and a spy along with jeeps are preparing to assault the heavily fortified soviet base , the allies rely on quick and swift attacks instead of brute strength , their units are cheaper and their infantry can survive a lot more combat thanks to the medic , unlike the soviets my doctrine with the allies made heavy usage of infantry and quick harassment.

Well the attack went well..... I guess , longbow helicopters can be seen firing their deadly anti armor missiles at tesla coils , my method of using the longbow helicopters was making 2 squadrons of longbows each one consists of 3 helicopters , these would target high priority targets like tesla coils and production buildings.
