The Nintendo Switch 2 is Announced (+ New Direct on April 2nd)

In an announcement no one saw coming today, Nintendo have shadow-dropped their reveal of newest addition to the Switch family, none other than the successor itself! With a lot of info teased within the trailer itself. It’s been heavily speculated that the trailer would be upon us, but no one anticipated a shadow drop. Classic Nintendo!

Slick New Design

The Switch 2 seems to be following upon the footsteps of the Legion Go with its joycon design, omitting the “slide” that the previous switch had and instead opting for a more clicky, ergonomic way to attach and detach your joycons. Hopefully more info is revealed on how this works.

Even the joycons received a complete makeover, ditching the iconic red and blue and instead having a slick black color scheme that still retains a red and blue accent that we all know and love. While it’s difficult to tell, the buttons also seems to have been redesigned slightly. It seems like Nintendo wants a larger emphasis on ergonomics which would be definitely appreciated.

New Kickstand

Following up on the OLED model, Nintendo have learned their lesson with this one. Many users, including the author of this very piece, had trouble with the original Switch’s stand as it broke very easily which proved dangerous as that left the SD card port exposed which was strangely amateurish of Nintendo to not realize a decade ago. Thankfully, lessons have definitely been learned and we no longer need to worry about that.

New Mario Kart?

You thought Nintendo was content with shadow-dropping a system reveal? Think again! As it seems they want to keep the ball rolling by teasing a new Mario Kart, which is arguably the smartest choice for a first game reveal in a console known for being so local coop friendly.

Not much is shown here, just a few seconds of gameplay to get players hooked, but more is definitely on the way.

Backwards Compatibility confirmed

Seems like Nintendo wants to further relief any tension regarding this, as despite seeming like a no-brainer, a few were still skeptical so it’s nice to see Nintendo answering those worries anyways.

New Direct Announced 4.2.2025

It seems like Nintendo wants to fire on all cylinders possible, not only do we have a new console accompanied by a game tease, but there’s a new direct in April 2nd this year that will likely go into more detail so keep your eyes peeled!

I KNEW ITTTT I FREAKING KNEWWWWWW IT , I WISH THEY SHOWED MORE. but oh well at least we have a direct

I bet "Super Switch" made the final rounds but ultimately lost to the safer Switch 2. Only reason I can think why is because perhaps Nintendo thought "Super Switch" implied more of a "Pro" model to the original, instead of a full fledged new console, where as you can't easily make that misinterpretation when you put a 2 in the name.

Reminds me a lot of Pokemon B&W 2, like yeah it is a sequel, but you could at least make a better sounding name lol.

Finally.
no more false spoilers (from youtubers).
feeling relieved on how it looks.
