The only ones I've played are Tales of The Abyss and Tales of Innocence.
They're fun.

You can't go wrong with a main line Final Fantasy, fanbase needs to realize there's no need to make them kill each other to up your fav. I mean my all time favorite game is Final Fantasy XIII (The first one by itself although I really love the other 2 too.) It's been over a decade and I'm still figuring things out about the story and writing, gameplay, music, world design. It's WAY ahead of it's time and totally humbled me.

I didn't realize that the COM allies not only base their behavior on the enemy notes (like bar fire is they say "uses powerful fire attacks"), a basic strategy (casting haste on themselves first so they can cast it on allies faster) but they change who they buff and with what based on what class they are (they'll put brave on attackers first and healers last)

And how to move, if you load 3 thunders for Lightning and use all 3, she'll leap back once, but if you load 3, and repeatedly start (triangle button) just the first, she'll keep leaping back and put space between her and the enemies and allies.

I still think that Mwynn was a proto human and Bhunivelze was a robot she made to made find chaos, and it killed her when it seen chaos in her, then millions of years later when the robots made L'Cie (the new humans) they never thought robot were unnatural because they've always been there (they never call them robots in the game) But I still don't get why they had Crystals inside themselves, And why (this is from the sequels which kinda took the story off the rails a bit) Why Bunivelze slept in "Crystal" after he killed Mwynn, unless that was his Focus, but that would mean Focuses were around before the robots?

And I think Vanille has something to do with Etro and Mwynn. Her personality resembles Etro's "foolish" description, her special move is "death' also the final boss Orphan IV is vulnerable to Death, just like if Mwynn was the robots creator she would have that failsafe control over them, like how the Fal'Cie can control L'Cie. It would be awesome if that was like a kill a million years in the making :)

Okay I'll stop now...

Edit: Bunivelze couldn't see the chaos, so maybe it was the idea of the unknown he seen in the humans?

I have only played Tales of Symphonia, i did watch my friend go through Tales of Arise, and we did have fun with it.

I hear tell that FF9 basically requires you to have played at least 7 and 8 before it to get the full experience. Is that true? I shouldn’t start with that one then, right?
Not at all.
It was the ”definitive” FF when it was new because it was slightly more self-referential (FF has always had recurring themes though) than before, but it’s kinda overblown.

I think it’s one of the best to start with because the entire game feels handcrafted with so much love and sincerity.

Once you realize that most of the writers of Final Fantasy (outside of Sakaguchi and Matsuno) are absolute otaku brain morons, you stop worrying about trying to make sense of the lore.

nonsense. that makes me want to make sense of the lore even more!

I was never able to get too much into Final Fantasy aside from the GBA stuff. I finished V and VI and Tactics Advanced.

V was a lot of fun with the Job System, I even managed to beat a few Super Bosses.

VI plot was insanely good and it made me cry a lot, specially during the Opera Section.

Tactics Advanced is one of my favourite games of all times and I replay it once every year.

Haha, no jab intended. You are right to keep the Final Fantasy thread clear of offtopic stuff.

have you given tactics advance 2 a try? it improves on all of the gameplay aspects of the first one. the story does kind of end abruptly though.

A magitek armor squad is on its way to your current location ::happyadvisor

Not that I played any other RPGs made in japan , RPGs ain't exactly my jam well until I played FF , btw wouldn't this thread kinda clash with the FF thread?

probably. you and i can turn it into the final fantasy II thread. we can improve on the flaws of the first one and make this thread even better.

I hate TA2 with every cell in my body. I don't know why because the game is actually really cool but I just don't vibe with it personally. It's great tho, I just can't enjoy it myself.

I will suggest for everyone to keep the in depth Final Fantasy talk to the Final Fantasy thread, but that will be difficult since it is the most popular JRPG series.

it's probably the story. it sort of gets up there on par with the previous games, but the rather abrupt ending hurts the story overall. the gameplay is what keeps me coming back to it though. i usually just stop around the final handful of missions.

I should give the Tactics Ogre series a try.
I keep restarting ogre battle on different platforms, I just put it on my psp, I’m finishing it this time! ? unless it gets a remaster…

With my brain and your brawn we will make an excellent team!
