The Inn -- General Gaming Chat

Picked up Phantasy Star 4 again; namely the Gen:4 hack that overhauls the script and adds in a bunch of details from interviews and such. Really enjoy it; I was playing through it a year or so back, but got sidetracked due to school and other obligations. Once I get through it, I kinda want to tackle Phantasy Star 3, as it being the odd duck in the series actually has me interested, but I figure I'll probably switch gears to Sakura Wars 2 or another Tales game.
It's sad that Sega couldn't even try making an overhauled version of the game.

Not a remake nor a remaster, just the same 16-bits classic with QoL improvements (like Phantasy Star Collection on the Saturn has brought such as faster walking speed).

I know the first Phantasy Star has a SEGA AGES release on Switch with a bunch of QoL improvements, like an AGES mode that smooths out the difficulty a little, or using the extra screen space to display stuff like character stats and dungeon layouts. Something like that for II-IV would be really cool to see.

Ok I know I might get slammed for saying this but here goes
Today I bought an original Gameboy at a flea market and I find it a piece of junk no colour small screen I can't believe people wasted money on this paperweight

I need to get my lazy butt moving..
Still need to play Blue Dragon on my 360 and also Gears of War 2 and 3,but hey
I at least played some Minecraft yesterday

oh fuck I need to finish Enslaved on my 360 first but I forgot the controls I have skipping on it to long now...and I remember I was directly in a Boss fight so I am screwed.

This was a nice version for sure and I'm still annoyed how the Sega Ages collection is still only on the e-shop (no Steam nor physical collection so far).

I still think that uppercase dialogues and cola/burgers should've been "fixed".

After playing Landstalker and Sonic 3D Blast again, starting to think that isometric games don't handle particularly well with a d-pad

Are you using the Genesis gamepad? I know this one has a way to make diagonals easier

Although I'd still prefer using a joystick even if it's not a proper analogue input for isometric games.

Yes, I'm using a third party pad though (SG ProPad 2). IDK, Sonic 3D Blast seemed a little bit more bearable with a thumb stick via Mega Collection

Tried playing Landstalker on my Pocket Go and Jesus, it was like trying to play curling with a 75 pound rock

I won’t slam you, but in a way you had to be there. If you can get past the limited hardware, there are some really great games on the Gameboy.

Can't link directly, but look up "Phoneky" and it'll show up -- just make sure you are browsing the Java section, for it defaults to Android.

Cheers ✌️ ❗

I'd recommend the Gameboy Color then. I love the Gameboy series, but "the brick" isn't without it's problems. You can also mod it to give it a backlight and better screen

Monster Hunter World has gotten grindy. I'm sure that was an obvious inevitability to a lot of you, but I had never played a Monster Hunter game before. Maybe it's just because I'm playing solo, but damn if I want a certain armor set then I need to grind out the same monster for 4 hunts in a row. The fights aren't even difficult really after the first time, they just become time consuming.

I almost picked up Monster Hunter Wilds, but I really do want to finish World first. Wilds looks so cool: the graphics look great, the characters are interesting, and the whole "the guild authorizes you" thing tickles my brain. Only drawback I can see is that annoying little kid running around. I'll get to it eventually, but I'll press on for now.
I suggest running some matches with other people...I played a lot of this game solo and when i finally found a competent duo of people, or just figured out how to play with randoms i put like 300 more hrs into it

I don't care about your fancy new game trailer that doesn't show gameplay. Take your cutscene trailer and shove it!!!

I've been wondering lately, if I would get into my backlog more if I had a reason to. Like, if I played a game with the intention to enjoy it, beat it, and then write up a review on it. I did one or two game reviews back in the last forum I was a part of, but that was well over ten years ago.

It also doesn't help all of my focus now is locked into Playnite and playing retro games. Nothing new really peaks my interest anymore. Older games do.

Maybe I'm just getting older, and that's just how it is.

Might have to scope one out in my travels

I wanted was as a kid yet my grandparents got me an Atari Lynx instead

So I played a bit of Virtual Bart (not the original, the Redux hack that's supposed to make things easier) and I landed on the baby level not once, but twice!

About nearly pulled my hair out because it's such a frustrating level. All of it is based on momentum and you're never given any clue how fast you're gonna fling baby bart

Rented this game as a kid, and while I do love it (probably due to nostalgia), it's not the exactly what I'd call a "good game"

I feel you.

It was one of the only times I ever regretted renting something.

Well you're also talking to somebody who rented both "Art Alive" and "Fun N Games" as a child from Blockbuster because he was just absolutely starved for Genesis content beyond his meager 6-Pak cart

Dante's Inferno has a parry upgrade you can get pretty early and for cheap. Timing on it is very lenient.

Dante's Inferno was one of those games that was hyped to hell (appropriately enough) and back but really fell off. Seemed to be a decent enough DMC clone from the look of things

The game did sell well, and made to the 360/PS3 Platinum Hits/Greatest Hits label, but it was never enough money for EA. The game more so borrows from God of War, but does enough on its own to stand out. How Dante fights is completely different from how Kratos fought in the Greek Era.
