I was also of this belief until Tetris Effect happened. Now I could go either way depending on the day.
Never played it, but holy shit that is one tough poster

I figured, but I realized I didn't name it and it's a REALLY good emulator that most people won't immediately know about (free, too).

i haven't been playing much retro games as of late. instead i've been playing hogwarts legacy gradually over this past month. it went on sale for cheap on steam around thanksgiving and is again on this winter sale. the combat is very fun and gives you a good selection of spells to use and combine. the game does like to drip feed you its mechanics though, but i do recommend playing it.

i also think i should finish parasite eve now that its christmas day. i began playing it during october, because its a horror game, but then it stuck me after like 80% threw the game "wait this a christmas game. this game starts during christmas eve so i should wait until christmas time."

I wanted, after Battletoads, to like and appreciate Double Dragon as a series...but can't. Both the NES and arcade trilogy? Aged like milk. Of the most recent ones I have Neon on Steam and I can't stand the gameplay. Maybe it'll be better in co-op? Heh, and to think the first one on NES didn't even had co-op in the main mode...
How many people here likes it anyways? I wish I could appreciate it better. I know that as a beat'em up it was influnential and important, but I can't.

Currently playing the arcade version of DDII: The Revenge and that unholy Mission 4 is driving me insane with the doppelgänger final boss.

Is there a game you guys replay around this time of year? For me it's Resident Evil 2, though it has nothing to do with the holiday season lol

Probably Skyroads.

It's got that kind of Summer, carefree vibe for me.

I had completely forgotten about this jewel... Part 2 was never released, despite being teased for decades after the first one was published (I think in 2007?).

Holy crap, I'd totally forgotten about Alejo y Valentina lol. Comes to show that Monkey Island was strangely popular in 2000s Argentina, too

Yeah, you literally couldn't escape it.

The first-ever site I had ever joined featured it on its logo, background music, article section, and as the webmaster's avatar, too XD

I'm on the third disc of Final Fantasy VIII right now. I've played through the game a couple times already but it's been a long time. I find myself enjoying leveling the GFs and seeing what kind of extra battle commands and passive abilities you can unlock. Lots of neat stuff there. The combat and how leveling and equipment work is messy as hell but it's fine enough. Very much love the way the art direction, music, and weird ass plot come together.

I just finished a game called Guitaroo Man. It just drips that early 2000's style and energy. Great rhythm game. Would love more games like that and the Parappa/Lammy stuff.

I recently finished Parasite Eve again. I love that game so much. Definitely in top five faves. I love the weapon upgrading and the combat system has to be my favorite in an RPG lol. I'm thinking I'll start PE 2 again soon. I always tap out in the middle of the second disc like a coward. This time I won't lmao. I swear the first disc of PE2 is an 11/10 quintessential PS1 experience but the second disc just wears me down so hard for some reason. I'm gonna see if it was just a me thing or if I really think the game's second half starts to sag.

The problem with the 2nd disc is how weird and sudden the whole plot feels+how it starts with a boss fight against the mutated cows who can push you off a cliff , one moment you're in a abandoned desert town in the middle of the Mojave and now we're in a cave system with a annoyingly small entrance to a LAB , oh wow why it feels like resident evil??

The enemies are packed tight and the plot goes wild.....but ends rather too shortly like i seriously was waiting for the proper antagonist to show up but nope it's that guy we burn already called number 6 or something....Sigh not to mention Eve like how are we supposed to care about a little version of aya if we only spend 10 minutes together?? The developers saw sherry and claire from RE2 and went "i want that in the game" in the last moment

I LOVE the combat in the second game. How the "magic" works is so satisfying and I like the thing where it shows you the rooms that still have enemies so you can kinda have a checklist of places to explore and re-examine. I also liked the resident evil structure of exploration and puzzles, but the puzzles on the second disc got so tedious to me. It's been a few years and maybe it won't be as exhausting and if it is I'll just brute force it with a guide lol.

I previously described the combat in PE2 as "DRRRRRRR" which is the sound of guns firing its just click on fire button and things will go your way for most part of the game , the parasite energy usage is more smooth than PE1.

I got stuck at the PC puzzle it's so dumb i checked the whole lab 3-4 times just to find the magazine and then figuring how to input the code....one of the rare cases where i had to look it up ::unhappy

I swear that PC puzzle area is literally what I'm thinking about when I stop myself from trying the game again lol. And yeah I see where you're coming from with the actual "gunplay" lmao. I still really enjoy the overall attempt at real timish but still slightly RPGish combat. I do way prefer the first one's combat.

The first one had issues with the small "arena" the fight took place in , though in some cases the arena was large enough though......the 2nd one couldn't replicate the atmosphere PE1 made the villain was one of the best things about PE1 but PE2 villain was so underwhelming......i do like the fact that there is a tech tree for parasite energy and it's done much better than PE1

That new Mario Tennis game is coming out and I just wanna say that for some reason, even having less characters, it still has a better character roster than Mario Kart World.
An image of the character select screen in Mario Tennis Fever, showcasing Luigi as a playable characters. The words 38 characters are highlighted in big and bold fond at the bottom of the image

It's more balanced and everyone included feels necessary where with World, I definitely could've lived without Snowman or the Dolphin

Picked up Phantasy Star 4 again; namely the Gen:4 hack that overhauls the script and adds in a bunch of details from interviews and such. Really enjoy it; I was playing through it a year or so back, but got sidetracked due to school and other obligations. Once I get through it, I kinda want to tackle Phantasy Star 3, as it being the odd duck in the series actually has me interested, but I figure I'll probably switch gears to Sakura Wars 2 or another Tales game.

Also slowly making my way through the first Devil May Cry. There are some really high moments in this game, but it's also fairly punishing with lives, and the camera angles are kind of a pain sometimes. I do occasionally practice with save states, but I want my final runs to be in one go.

Also plan on going back to Rune Factory 3 Special soon; I've always preferred the Rune Factory games over Stardew Valley, mainly because the initial standoffishness of villagers in the latter rubs me the wrong way. I get enough of that in real life. That said, I was a really big fan of 4, and must've sunk 100+ hours into it, something I don't really do much with games nowadays.

Monster Hunter World has gotten grindy. I'm sure that was an obvious inevitability to a lot of you, but I had never played a Monster Hunter game before. Maybe it's just because I'm playing solo, but damn if I want a certain armor set then I need to grind out the same monster for 4 hunts in a row. The fights aren't even difficult really after the first time, they just become time consuming.

I almost picked up Monster Hunter Wilds, but I really do want to finish World first. Wilds looks so cool: the graphics look great, the characters are interesting, and the whole "the guild authorizes you" thing tickles my brain. Only drawback I can see is that annoying little kid running around. I'll get to it eventually, but I'll press on for now.
