The "Edgelord" Protagonist

BLACK JACK MENTION LET'S GOOOOOO

But I do agree. I think there should be a clear separation between what an edgelord is and what an anti-hero is because they are two different things.
Tezuka managed to make more nuanced characters that even today's mangakas are struggling to replicate.

I'd say that Black Jack was edgy for the 70's as he had quite a negative opinion about humanity aside from a few people and Pinoko.

I'd also add Captain Harlock, Matsumoto got probably inspired.

Yeah, Dark antihero and edgelord still have a fine line.

Rorschach from Watchmen is a great example of both: the reasons for why he is the way he is are well explained without feeling forced, but at the same time, Moore tries to get the reader to understand that Rorschach is a horrifying person and should not be celebrated. (Unfortunately, many readers suck at critical thinking and missed the "this guy is horrible" part.)
Watchmen is various shades of black. Even Manhattan barely cares about humanity on the long run.

Ironically I feel that Ozymandias is the most "normal" person in the whole cast despite what he is.

To be fair, Stan Lee did not do well writing the early issues of X-Men. Prof X was constantly lusting over Jean Grey in the early issues while trying to coach himself into hold back his feelings. The series as a whole was just a mess until the Claremont era.

That said, I doubt Ennis did a good job at the commentary, as he probably did worse than Cracked did. (Wouldn't surprise me if he found out about it from their articles.)
Yeah true point, but either way at the end of the day I feel like I shouldn’t even have bothered counting the original boys. Its just pure Garbo and edgy high schooler kid galore??

I kinda like Jack Garland despite how ridiculous the game could be.

I do enjoy the "wants to get shit done asap" kind of character (which may or may not be edgy depending on whom).

I kinda like Raiden from MGR because despite acting edgy under his "Jack the Ripper" persona he's a really sweet person and would always use his power to save people he cherishes.

I feel that Big Boss is "edgier" as a character than every other playable character.

Isn't it a wannabe Watchmen?

Ya, all of the characters in Watchmen are supposed to not fit the hero archetype correctly. They are all failures in one way or another, whether it's in bad morals and behavior (Comedian, Rorschach), lack of success when it really matters (Nite Owl, Silk Spectre), or lack of concern for humanity as a whole (Dr M, Ozy).

Ozy is not the most normal. He's an egomaniac who thinks he can fix society through "one simple, final solution", something that only lunatics assume works. (Moore was, of course, drawing from real life horrors of the past for this one.) And as the story implies, it doesn't work. If anything, Nite Owl is the most normal: he's just a guy with ED who gets off on cosplay.

The Boys is Watchmen if written by one of the "fans" who doesn't have the critical thinking skills to read the book correctly, whines that Moore is ruining comics by having a well-thought out opinion on them, and insists that Moore needs to shut up about his opinions and write another book based on those opinions that they will buy on day one.

I can like the edgelord character but usually not because of what they are but more because they're just well written.
I still genuinely cannot believe how much of a turnaround I had for Kanda. I need to get back to DGM...

It's okay I hated his guts at first too but his fights were always fun to watch/read.

It wasn't even his fights that won me over, though. It was just getting to know HIM better.

I figured but I'm just saying in a lot of shonen stuff even if I hate a character I might still like watching them fight. That couldn't be said for Hitsugaya in Bleach though. It felt like he eventually cheats his way out of a fight.

He sort of does. It rarely feels earned and he just kind of seems 'perfect' except when he feels stupid.

I do think he becomes a lot better in Blood War, but... I still don't get the hype for him.

Dark Schneider from Bastard ! ! is absolutely an edgelord (a great wizard wanting to conquer the world and has powerful spells) but the dynamic with Tia and how he also turns back into a younger child when he loses his powers is what makes the manga interesting.
