Honestly I just randomly thought of this so I'm going to talk about it so let's get into it.

There have been many terrible levels in the sonic series whenever it be from the infamous Sonic 06 or the sheer boredom of the 3ds Sonic boom games but this one however comes from a game that's on the 3DS. That being Sonic Lost World, the 3ds version specifically without wasting much time the terrible level I'm speaking about would be Frozen Factory Zone 3. What makes this level so terrible is that it's slowed pasted rooms of just pushing snowballs to make those things big enough just have those fit into holes. Which is something you'll do for the enitre level.

If you think that's bad then well you haven't seen anything yet because it gets even worse because this room is the true endurance test of patience because this area specifically not only have to make the snowball big enough to hit into the hole, there's also those annoying penguin enemies that'll respawn even if you decide to defeat those enemies making the whole experience pure agony.

I should mention that the multi homing attack that this has game can get you killed more times then not because it can target enemies that aren't in your line of sight. After you get pass the miserable first area the game has the bright idea to have a menacing snowball to follow you around from that point onwards. You can't even get rid of it or have it stun in place for long because you'll just follow you again after sometime. You just do the same things you do at the being while a menacing snowball that can freeze you in place runs after you.

It's like Anti Sonic design, it's made to annoy you at each turn or force you to do unfun gimmicks which made it a great pick for the absolute worst level entirely in the sonic franchise.

I hate the underwater ones with a passion.

I mean... here we have this game that's all about going extremely fast, what should the next level be? I know! Slow and boring!

Most 3D Sonic levels. Sorry to be blunt, but it is just how it is. As for 2D, probably Metropolis; it's long, tiresome and even its amazing music can't save it.

Sonic Forces - the entire game
this, the entire game was jank, level design was bullshit
doing the time trials felt luck based, physics were so broken where i might do a "normal" jump, or i'd launch up in a straight line and lose all my speed.
and that laser chasing level, yeah that can burn in hell.

also sonic superstars like... the WORST way to do co-op in a sonic game, everybody respawning RAPIDLY
and fighting 10 minute long bosses with NO RESPAWN OF PLAYERS, fucking sucked, ruined my entire mood to finish the game
well that and i kept dying at the final boss from glitchy floor and broken hit boxes, something that never got patched (on ps4 anyways) as it still happens as of last week lol.

these are all far form the worst sonic game i've played
that goes to Sonic chronicles of dark brotherhood.
INCREDIBLY slow and tedious mechanics, there's literally nothing fast about this game and one of the worst RPGs i've played to boot.

Personally I've always loved underwater levels in Sonic, they're amongst my favourite.

The levels in Sonic Blast (especially Blue Marine) and maybe some from '06.

Sonic Lost World on the 3DS is an odd game because they could've gone the Generations way of making it a 2.5D side scroller with the Boost gameplay style but we ended up getting a weird low-cost game inspired by Mario 3D Land and a lower scaled style from the Wii U version (which itself was a lesser copy of Mario Galaxy). The only good side is that there are less levels and the bosses are less tedious but that's it.

I really didn't get why Sega tried to imitate Mario with Lost World and the Parkour mechanic would've worked wonder in more open ended levels (which surprises me that Frontiers never tried to give Sonic that ability back).
