And the funniest part is Sony basically admitted they are wrong for ending physical media production, because in a previous lawsuit that also accused them of having a monopoly over game production, their main defense against it was that "consumers have a the choice to buy games physically through retail stores"...

Eh, unfortunately, in the country of amazing cultural icons such as MacDonkey, Hulk Hogan, and shitty AR15's and Draco's people entrust their lives with, these companies will find some way to get lobbyists and such to back them. However, the EU is of the opinion that nothing can really be done to stop it from happening. Michael McGrath, the European Commissioner for consumer protection, told the Irish Mirror that the EU is ultimately unable to take action against it, leaving the fate of physical PlayStation games solely in Sony's hands.

"It does come down to commercial and contractual freedoms, and companies are free to offer games and services in the manner that they see fit, provided that consumer rights are fully protected in line with national and EU law,” he said.

Considering they only gave a single year's notice and one of the prime exports of Mexico is DVDs and Blu Rays? Yeah, I'd say they should've seen this lawsuit coming!

I only hope that more nations follow suit. It's too bad we can't count on Japan (would never turn against a company of their own) or the USA (would never turn against money), I guess it depends on where the trial is held and what precedent against it can be mounted.

This is the only thing I'm thinking about. They could've handled it way better. They could hold the news until the PS6 was near its release date, and then announce a separate disc reader as an optional thing, which people would then link the dots and understand that the main unit wouldn't have a disc tray.

Honestly that was most people were expecting. Like it was on the wall since PS5 removed the disc drive. Even for me, the PS5 was going to be my last console after they jumped to PS6 for that reason, and now just dropping it all together just made everyone pissed off.
