also the fact that many game studios have suffered massive layoffs throughout the years, causing the triple aaa market to constantly bleed talent
Yes, and hiring hacks because they're cheaper or have some other irrelevant qualifies for the positions they're hired for. Like the Halo developer that hated guns... 😂

We all knew this was coming, they tried to avoid it as long as they could but it's not like they were somehow magically using components immune to all the price increases thanks to AI and everything else going on in the world fucking over PC and console gaming. (Tbf though, I - even to this day - sometimes see people thinking the whole RAM crisis and everything else is a PC-only thing and that consoles shouldn't be affected by it. PCs were just the canary in the coal mine. This shit has come or is coming to everything that can be argued to be a 'computer')

Interesting that they gave us a several months heads up about the price increase, instead of just announcing it and it goes into effect within a few weeks like Sony and Microsoft have done. (I think we now know when their current contracts for the components expire then)

I don't see the issue about sequels if they are good ones.
I think most sequels haven't lived up to their predecessors, mostly on last gen consoles. Mario Kart World, Spiderman 2, Halo Infinite, ...

Somebody needs to send a message to these AI tech hoarders.

For now...
I'm sure the device will become even more expensive. What kind of logic does Nintendo have? Do they really believe that the device will receive more approval this way? ::cirnoshrug

Probably not. But they have to make their shareholders happy. And the shareholders are very hungry and want to squeeze every penny out of other people and condemn them to poverty. "Fuck you got mine!"

Aren’t these things supposed to lower in price over time?

Not in 2026. You will gladly part with those extra rupees. Because Nintendo has value! ::thumbsupwario

It's true, it's happening with everyone right now. But Nintendo its been doing it long before the current crisis, with the argument that their games and consoles "doesn't lose their value over time", so that's why their prices rarely goes down ::cirnoshrug

I hate the terrible first party game prices. I'd buy more if they cost less.

Remember when Nintendo dropped the 3DS price by 30% just 6 months after its launch? Good times. I miss that Nintendo

Not to be the Devil's advocate but that didn't remove the fact they sold a handheld console the equivalent of $370 today with a region lock and the Ambassador Program was more or less a band-aid for the customers the GBA games included never saw any e-shop release and I read that the emulation wasn't great so that they didn't run the best.

That Nintendo was the same that fumbled with the Wii U (which never saw a real price decrease), didn't have a proper 3D Mario (3D World isn't a Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy type of game) nor Zelda game (until the very end of its life), had a rather bad Starfox game so that the franchise stayed dormant for a full decade, made Amiibos almost like physical DLCs, shoehorned Miis and the Miiverse in games that didn't really need to have them, tried to do that one Youtube partnership program which made many content creators upset about the fact they couldn't do videos of Nintendo games without their avail (and many rules) among many other issues regarding the game's quality (NSMBU was just NSMB Wii but in HD, Animal Crossing only had a board game spinoff, they wanted to use the tablet so often you could barely have 4-players games with wiimotes or normal gamepads).

You miss the memories of that era but let's be honest they still had many issues while the early Switch was finally them going back on track.

Definitely. I have 0 modern Nintendo games. They aren't worthy compared to the much lower priced competition, that rivals or surpasses in quality.

Sure there is Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but then there's stuff like Nier Replicant Ver. 1.2244..., Nier Automata, Final Fantasy XII, FF XV, Wonderboy: Dragon's Trap, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, ...

As much as i love to shit on Nintendo I gotta give them some credit for not going batshit crazy with the price hikes like Valve and Sony
