I only played the first game on NES decades ago but that damn jump sound takes a significant part in my Brain Memory™ lol. IDK if I should congratulate the person who could produce that fuck SFX or curse at even their aunt for how annoyingly memorable SFX that auditory BS is!!! But I know without it so many Mario memes would be meaningless!!! For example:

lolol

1.Mario getting fried in sunshine by electric stacks
2.mario long jumping into a wall in 64
3.anytime Mario talks in the mario and Luigi series

I can't find it but the sound effect that plays when a coin is spawning

The sound effects when you consecutively attack multiple enemies right before that sweet 1-up sound caps it off. Small little things like that which make these games classic

The sound of going down a pipe because it means you found a secret

Anything the flowers say in Super Mario Bros. Wonder

You guys should watch this:

I'm a big fan of Mario going "Ah... spaghetti... Ah... ravioli" while he's sleeping in Mario 64, I think about that a lot. I also love the sound Bob-ombs make when you talk to them, very Foghorn Leghorn coded.

Another sound that's always stuck with me is the sound Piranha Plants let out when they die in New Super Mario Bros, mainly because it's kinda creepy.

”BYAHOO!”

Sorry for being unbelievably embarrassing and linking a let’s play, but this series almost killed me when I first watched it:

I was fortunate to grow up during Mario mania. When I first played Mario Bros, I thought it was okay, it just felt like any other arcade game (single screen, repetitive). But when I played Super Mario Bros, it felt like an epic adventure through a varied and crazy world! There was no other game out there at the time that had levels with so much variety (water levels, underground, in the clouds, etc).

When Mario Bros 2/USA came out, it only further highlighted how weird the Mario universe was. Its weirdness was part of the reason I was so interested in the Mario universe. I wanted to know everything about it!

I remember I used to own this sticker book that my parents bought for me at a grocery store. You had to buy card packs that contains stickers to put in the book. The pages also had hidden images and messages that you had to reveal with a decoder. For a kid who was obsessing over every piece of lore about this strange world, this book was a goldmine!

By that time my hype for Super Mario Bros 3 was at an all time high, especially when it was teased during the movie The Wizard. I don't even remember anything from that movie other than it showing SMB3 for the first time!

I'm so happy Nintendo hasn't tried to rebrand Mario like many other companies do with their franchises. It's pretty much one of the last few things left from my youth that hasn't been tarnished.

New Super Mario Bros (DS) - when Mario gets up after a slide.

I wish Peach Showtime could run at 60fps. Still looks alright but jeez. Game is alright but it's frustrating when you miss a Sparkle Gem and you gotta re-do the level(s) aaaaaaaaaaall over again.
