SNES-StarFox-2-WinterCES004.png

_____ This one build in particular in called the Winter CES Build which was showcased at the Consumer electronic show in early 1995. It's a hard build to find. You can even see screenshots and people playing this version of starfox 2 in magazines, and in articles about upcoming releases in 1995. Features: unused enemies, unused levels, clearer map indicators, and distinct ship behaviors. This version became playable for fans after its source code leaked in 2020, allowing for compilation into bootable ROMs, revealing a game much closer to completion than prior prototypes. This is a harder game in comparison […]

If someone tries to snatch something, it must have gone terribly wrong.
Thanks for sharing game and story :)

I agree though, Gigaleaks ARE a pain in the ass to find. So much so that I was considering uploading what I've got from day one of these forums but well, Nintendo ninjas. It's been enough years now it might be okay to upload and Spike seems to be okay with these roms so why not? Maybe eventually I'll get around to it.

I think stuff from the gigaleak is fair game, as most people have already used them for personal projects. Like, the zelda 64 demo remade by fans uses maps and content from the gigaleak.

Fun fact: someone once attempted to physically steal this prototype from CES.
I wonder how this person feels now that it wound up leaking online anyways regardless of him.

The other SF2 prototypes aren't hard to find. I thought about posting them, but they're mostly incomplete tech demos with just some levels.
This one is the oldest build that can be considered a complete playable game.
Also, this specific build was not easy to find, it was not available around the net with just a simple google search.

I know where to find more.

looks quite different from the final game. might try it out.
thats because it was showcased at CES at the time was probaly in the phase of finalizing the game altought a lot ideas or concepts went changed towards development. either way the final seen on Snes mini or leaked build back then did impacted due to aftormentioned not to compete against Starfox 64 either was true or not.

again hopefully more prototype of such could be nice been posted on here.

I was at that Winter CES, and while I thought SF2 was decent at the time, it didn't hold a candle to the experience I had years earlier when the original Star Fox was shown. Easily my favorite trade show gaming experience, and why I probably still love that game so much today. Sadly, SF2 never captured my imagination like the first game did, but glad to see it was finally officially released after all those years on the shelf.
