What do you think of adding spoiler tags to generally NSFW content?

There has been a gradually growing number of generally NSFW images that have been posted on profile walls and elsewhere in the last few months, and it was recently suggested by a number of Users that lewd or sexually explicit art and imagery be covered by spoiler tags to hide this type of content from Users who do not wish to see it.

RGT has a wide age demographic, and some of these images aren't suitable for younger audiences, and many other Users simply do not wish to see this kind of content when browsing the forums or recommending the site to others.

We have tried to be more relaxed about Rule #7. The general rule of thumb being "if you'd see it down at the beach, then it's fine". But of course, people will still try to push the envelope as to what they can get away with.
On the other hand, these images are often impressive displays or artistry and creativity, and they have their audience.

What are your feelings on the idea?

I agree.
Also, i know Spike is not happy about such contents being posted here at all... you can check his answer to a similar suggestion in the past.

I believe such contents shouldn't be allowed here in the first place.
Agreed. This is a gaming forum, not a porn site.

Due to the fact that the spoiler tags wouldn't prevent NSFW content, just add extra steps to view it and make it harder to manage/moderate, I think focussing it all instead to a dedicated group DM is a more workable solution.

Less public lewd imagery, less moderation headaches, and as much NSFW as desired can be shared freely via private DM (also, it being more contained to one major group DM means that any bad actors can be reported and shut down quickly).

But you're right, rejecting NSFW content altogether is another option, though I personally feel this would be too puritanical a decision (where does it end?)

Like it or not, the truth is that a certain dose of sensuality is always present in most video games. In some types of games, it's one of main aspects of it, like fighting games. It's part of culture surrounding it.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think the forum should be overrun by lewd stuff, but i don't think we should remove it completely (lewd in specific, not nsfw). The spoiler tags are a good alternative to both people that don't want to see this kind of stuff and those that want to see it. Everyone wins.

As long as they are getting reported & not getting away with it, that's fine with me.

Very true, gaming has no shortage of sexually charged content, but most of the official art isn't as extreme as the fan made content.

The more I consider it, the more I think the spoiler tag will increase mod workload without reducing the volume of explicit imagery (in fact, it may well increase it). What constitutes "too NSFW" is also hard to measure objectively.
Whereas, siphoning the majority of it into DM's feels like a more effective solution.

So, removing them from the profiles posts and only allowing it on dms between users?

That suggestion makes the most sense to me so far, yep.
I think the spoiler tags could work, the rules just need to be pretty clear on what is allowed and what's not, like swimming suits and bikinis are allowed but no nude or sexual acts being displayed.
Why not test for, let's say, a week and see how it goes? If it doesn't work, then we go for your suggestion

Sure, I'm happy to test if for a week, but I'd like that DM group made as well so that it's all set up and ready to go. In the long run I think it'd be best if the majority of NSFW content was kept away from the front-facing side of RGT.

I'm for the idea of hiding risque content behind "spoiler" tags for those who are sensitive to that kind of stuff.

In addition, to echo Tbest, I think more clarification should be given as to what exactly is deemed "acceptable" or not. The current explanation is rather vague.

Nebby and I just finished doing some testing via DM's, and determined that it wouldn't be a feasible solution.

So instead, I am proposing that we create an NSFW art dumping thread in the Art section, where all risqué images are hidden by spoiler tags. This would be the only place to post NSFW content.

In addition, I am proposing that we update rule #7 for clarity, to read as follows:

NSFW imagery must only be posted in this thread (link thread) and be hidden by spoiler tags. NSFW imagery must not depict sexual acts, fully exposed nipples or genitalia. NSFW posts that fail to follow these rules will be deleted and warning(s) issued.

This rule can then be stickied as a post to the NSFW thread.
It will eliminate NSFW posted on profile walls and will not be visible on the RGT Repo front page (as only recently made threads are displayed).

Yeah, having a dedicated space for it, not a bad idea

So in the end, the solution is a NSFW art thread?
I think so. That way, no-one has any excuse for seeing it except from purposefully going to the relevant thread and choosing to make the content visible. The rule is more specific to what is and is not acceptable. Everybody wins, everybody loses. Compromise.

Fine by me. This way only who wants to see it will be in this thread. It's like a convention for the degen gamers (and you bet i'll be there too ::eggmanlaugh )

Sounds like a good enough compromise to me.::thumbsupwario
