Soundtrack Greats (or the best complete OST full albums)

Super Robot Wars OGs has got some absolute blood-pumping tracks. These two in particular get me going.

Oh I've been using it for the last 10 years, its got sound effects too

This one is so impactful coming after the most stressful moment in the game
It's magnificent. It reminds me of these 2 tracks from one of my favorite games of all time.
Halo 2 Volume 1 OST #4 Ghosts of Reach

Halo 2 Volume 1 OST #16 Heavy Price Paid

What is the best soundtrack of all time? While I'm not well-versed in music theory, here is a selection of some of the most significant and greatest video game soundtracks.

RALLY-X (1980) - Toshio Kai
Considered the first soundtrack of all time in video games, it is important to add it here. is quite enjoyable, taking into account the limitations of the time. This song can be enjoyed as a ringtone or alarm setup.

(Here is the only upload that i could find of the main theme, enjoy it (●'◡'●) )

MEGAMAN 2 (1988) - Takashi Tateishi and Manami Matsumae
Although some of the 2,600 games feature music (such as Pirfal 2, Dig Dug, and Ghostbusters), more complex soundtracks emerged with the NES. Notable first-party titles like Mario, Kirby, Zelda, and Startropics showcased some of the console's best music, alongside iconic third-party tracks from Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and many Konami and Sunsoft titles. Undeniably, one of the standout soundtracks is Mega Man 2; while it may be an easy choice, its jazz and electronic influences make it one of the most iconic in the entire catalog.
PS: Any soundtrack made by Geoff Follin, Tim Follin and David Wise is also worth checking out.

(Here is the whole OST enjoy it (★ ω ★))

CHRONO TRIGGER (1995) - Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu And Noriko Matsueda
One of the best soundtracks of all time, its compositions perfectly capture the adventure across time and the constant changes while maintaining a consistent style, which is enjoyable. The SNES features impressive music, and really skillfull developers using sampling and converting orchestral sounds to fit the sound chip are admirable. Final Fantasy 6 showcases an opera within these limitations, and Earthbound sounds amazing with its constant sampling. However this soundtrack exemplifies the era's limitations and the system's execution. While I recognize that the Genesis has great music, I don't believe it offers a soundtrack comparable to Chrono Trigger.

(Here's the complete soundtrack; I recommend "The Corridors of Time.")

Silent Hill (1999) - Akira Yamaoka

During the PS1, Sega Saturn, and N64 era, the larger format allowed for more complex music, enabling talented composers like Nobuo Uematsu, Michiru Yamane, and Hitoshi Sakimoto to create great soundtracks. However, Silent Hill stands out for its atmospheric integration of music and gameplay. While intricate music can sometimes distract from the game, Silent Hill's soundtrack enhances the experience with its minimalist approach, deepening the overall atmosphere.

(Not tomorrow is a great example of this simple but effective aproach ψ(._. )> )

Celeste (2018) - Lena Raine

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. The use of synthesizers and pianos creates a personal yet grand atmosphere that perfectly complements the game's theme. Even as you face constant deaths, the soothing music encourages you to keep moving forward, making it an amazing experience from beginning to end.

(There are no skips on the soundtrack) (⓿_⓿)

I would love to hear your thoughts on video game soundtracks. I know I’ve missed many systems and soundtracks, but I’ll cover them all soon. (o|o)

I guess what separates this thread from the other, is judging a game's soundtrack as a whole. Alright. Here are the best soundtracks ever, no competition, objectively correct.

PrincessMaker 2 (1993)
Possibly the best recorded version.

The Neverhood (1996)

PoPoLoCrois (1996)

Kowloon's Gate (1997)

Soukaigi (1998)

Doshin The Giant (1999)

Okay lets judge this one by one:
Princess Maker 2: Is not the best soundtrack version of the game if you really want to hear the best version go and listen to:

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration OST

The Neverhood: The soundtrack is funny, but fun and good are different things. If you enjoy it would be great to listen to:

Neverhood Songs [Deluxe]

Popolocrois Monogatari: Is okay but sounds kinda bland /_ \
Kowloon's Gate: Good ambiance. ^_^
Sōkaigi: Great vibes ✪ ω ✪

In the wake of Doshin aka Doshin the Giant: its fine nothing that special =/
PLANET DOB: Sounds good but this style was better on Jet Set Radio ¬_¬
Evergrace: ok i guess =P
Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia: Interesting mix of styles but the sequel is better here it is:

Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica

The House in Fata Morgana: Good BGM but not good as a OST ~_~
Transistor: Is Good but sounds better if you have played the game Y.Y

OutRun, Space Harrier, After Burner, Hang-On, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and of course PENGO! Gotta love that Popcorn song!

I believe we can merge both and create a single stronger thread, covering music composition for games and other medias.

Transistor (2014)
Yeaaaaaaaaaaah!!!! One of my favorites! I LOVE how we have two versions of each track in this game, one instrumental only, and other with added vocals from the protagonist. The fact that we have a button just to make her sing whenever we want, and she following the soundtrack playing at that moment...... holy fuck. I love everything about Transistor.

CHRONO TRIGGER (1995) - Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu And Noriko Matsueda
(Here's the complete soundtrack; I recommend "The Corridors of Time.")
This is inevitable to mention. But i gotta say, there are overlooked songs on this album! Sealed Door and The Day The World Revived are both of them.

And i would like to bring the OST of Final Fantasy XIII to the table. People will always refer to the work of Nobuo Uematsu as probably the greatest in this media, but man, Masashi Hamauzu made an absurd work on his first main Final Fantasy entry. The album have a big variety of music genres, containing even bossa nova!

And of course, my favorite Final Fantasy battle theme of all time: Blinded By Light. I got goosebumps every time i hear it. This is an underestimated game in general.

The one song i really dug from that OST is the jazzy version of the Chocobo theme.

Great taste. And ff13-2 stepped it up by bringing Origa to the table, some fantastic tracks that really breathed life into the vastly different worlds throughout timelines.
For me, it's

Don't even get me started on Sh 1-4's soundtracks

The original game especially is so impressive, no other ps1 title I know of had adaptive music
Like in the school yard theres the clock tower you gotta unlock, for every "key" you use a new layer of creepy sounds is added, making you afraid to unlock it further, like you're slowly opening the gates of hell. Amazing, amazing, amazing
The 4th one got really dreamy and...I dont know how to describe it, aetherial? It very unique...

Siren's entire soundtrack is 50% of its terror, it makes you imagine all sorts of things, I remember the dread i felt when entering the rice fields..

As for famicom man there is so much..
Megami Tensei 2 really impressed me

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

It's so funny to see something like this in a Saints Row game.

can't remember and wont check if somebody mentioned this before, but holy fuck PERSONA 3 RELOAD I KEEP GETTING GOOSEBUMPS WITH THIS ALBUM!1!!!!!11

The game Mystery of the Druids is one of the most mediocre point & clicks I ever played, but its original 2001 version has one of my favorite osts of all time.
Unfortunately for the 2004 release they changed most of the soundtrack(maybe due to space limitations? as the 2001 soundtrack is huge) and its modern releases are based on that version, so you can't listen to this track in the GOG version.

The entire Little Big Adventure series has excellent music (a tradition which I fully expect to be continued in the remake) but this piano arrangement of the second game's install theme is one of my favourite chill-out tracks ever.

When LBA's main theme kicks in at 2:40, I'm immediately taken back to my childhood, playing the game in a quiet room on a snowy afternoon during winter break. The frosty wind is howling, the world is covered in a sea of ivory crystal, and I still can't move from one screen to the next without running into a wall. Pure bliss.
For real. One of the most memorable soundtracks I can think of. The Honey B theme still comes to my mind from time to time.

"screw it, I'm gonna make rpgmaker moody stuff, no one's gonna notice"

But if you want HAUNTING
I can't put my finger on why, but this track fills me with DREAD
Yume Nikki OST is an amazing achievement, it creates these really haunting atmospheres unlike anything else with simple 15 secs loops
