The online store will stick around for awhile, but I still won't consider the PS4 as a "live" console since there doesn't appear to be new games being released for it. People playing Fortnite on it isn't enough to consider it an actively developed for platform.

The original models for Vita and 3DS just *barely* fit inside a pocket. I tried playing a 3DS XL on a bus and found it difficult to pocket it in either my jacket or jeans. The Vita had the analog sticks sticking out that beg to get ripped off. Would be nice to see a portable that's actually portable with a decent battery life (maybe even come with multiple swappable battery packs). DS and GBA were pretty good for portability. PSP was OK for it, but the PSP GO was the only convenient one since the UMD drive kinda' sucked and the smaller size finally made it pocketable. The idea that every device is so big and expensive now that you need a carrying case for it is crazy.

Switch kinda' fucked portable gaming pretty hard since everyone wants it to be a portable home console and not a hybrid console with limitations. If Sony does a portable it'll be a similar Steam Deck/Switch thing instead of an actual portable with specifications that smaller developers find appealing. Portable gaming seems to be the domain of retro emulation devices for the time being. And even those you see are expanding in size and power (consumption), following the same trend.

I assume "portable" now means you can fit it in a backpack. The Switch is rather cumbersome in handheld mode. In form it reminds me of a comically oversized PSP. Kinda like those comically oversized sunglasses that used to be a gag in the 80s. Lite isn't much better. Maybe I'm overexaggerating a tad. But you get my point.

I miss handhelds that were made specifically to be handhelds. Game Boy was a brick. But it seemed phenomenal how small it was at the time. And leagues better than Sears Football and the like. Then things started slimming down and getting lighter. Now we're getting all phat and cumbersome again. Feels like a step downward. Maybe the technology will improve enough that handhelds get thinner and lighter again.

Thats the problem with mass Consumer products and popular trends "aimed" in the "video gaming" market, where Parents/family without gaming knowledge are the "biggest" buyers for their kids/family for "casual" gaming.

Where else "older" serious gamers with knowledge go specific to expensiver" hardware for xboc/ps, PC, steamdesk, emulations.

That's news to me OP. I wouldn't have a problem with it because ray-tracing is way overrated and at this point you don't need much more horsepower than, say, the base Pro if you want to make a "modern-feeling" game, so long as it designed with limitations in mind. I probably wouldn't buy it on principle as I've boycotted the PS5 since they shuttered Japan Studio, but that's beside the point.

PS4's already dead. Sony will release some firmware update in a few years to fuck with modders again, like they did with PS3 before. That's like digging the grave to take a piss on the corpse once more.

But what makes a console to be undead? zero releases at all? As far as I know, the lastest PS3 firmwares didn't fuck too much with scene because PS3 was already super-duper jailbroken, and it can potentially happen with PS4, even if we don't see light at the end of the tunnel now.

Anyways, why to care about the status of a console if you're free to play with it as long as you want? besides the clickbait, I always think for me PS1 is alive because I have so much to play, for instance :)

I don't like when people think that once a new console is released, we should forget about the old one because "evolution". We have so many games to play that I sometimes feel overwhelmed in joy thinking about it, regardless of the generation.

Nowadays, it's sweet that even consoles that were released decades ago are getting from time to time an indie release, but I am kind of sad that nobody is doing any new indie game for PS2 :(.

Yeah I wish the Ps2 would still get Games i have to many precious memories with that Console and it would be nice seeing some new games on it as the Ps2 is still a very capable Console.
