Sony Talk and News

I feel that Sony simply doesn't know how to maintain handhelds properly.

The PSP was good for its epoch but in a post-iPhone world they cannot sustain it. Even the DSi is obsolete so that the tools the 3DS had were not that great while the DS was still good on its own.

They killed the PS Vita and the PS Portal is just a glorified Wii U-esque console (being dependant on a home console).

I thought the Xperia was Sony's logical step in handhelds.

Well at least we know for sure that the PS9 will be snortable:
I unironically love that ad. The y2k is strong in this one.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the future VR would directly connect to our synapses.

As a professional firmware/electronics engineer I will NEVER connect something electronic to my brain. I know how that particular sausage is made. No thanks.

I'm no engineer but for privacy reasons I will not connect something to my brain. My thoughts, my dreams, my wants should be kept private (as much as companies already know ourself well enough).

Not sure I care about buying a home console and a handheld unless it combines the two like the Switch. While I play portably here and there, most of my Switch playtime has been docked. It's nice to have the option to play portably, I just don't do it a lot so I'm not sure I'd spend $600+ on a Sony handheld unless that was the PS6 and it had a dock like Switch.

Until we have power cells/batteries that can power something akin to a lightsaber, handhelds are always going to be weaker. I agree with @Nebulon_Galaxy the wording is straight up misleading and wonky

the PS4 draws about 50 watts while running, in unmodified form. The PS5 is quite a lot more, I havent actually measured though. With current battery technology you can expect minutes. A handful of them.
I believe that's the PS4 Slim, and only showing the menu. If you're playing, it will go around 90-100w, depending on the game. Obviously, that power consumption is not sustainable in a portable device, not even in a laptop with a huge battery.

But I have to admit that, if they created a PS4 with the technology of 2025, it would consume 1/3 and it could be a portable device, but we are talking about something that could pottentially be around 300% more powerful, so there is no way you can cram that in something portable. As you said, battery technology is not there, and dissipation technology either.

Same energy as the people out there shocked that trying to play Elden Ring on their Steam Deck at full blast burns a hole in the middle of the thing.
I kinda miss when handheld games were made with technical limitations in mind...

Same. As much as I love Switch and the concept, I feel like a certain kind of game became more rare.

Honestly though I felt like that started to go away before Switch in the 3DS/Vita era.

The potential PlayStation 6 handheld is said to be less powerful than a PlayStation 5. Rumor has it that two chips are in development for the PlayStation 6. The potential handheld is now being said to not really be “next-gen.” According to the latest rumors from KeplerL2 on the NeoGaf forum, the PlayStation 5 Portable won't even be as powerful as the current PlayStation 5. According to KeplerL2, the handheld will have a “15W SoC on 3nm”. What the final specifications will look like is still uncertain.
However, 15W gives us an idea of the thermal performance (TDP). The Steam Deck, for example, has a TDP of 15W, while the PlayStation 5 has a TDP of 200W.
yeah disapointing ngl

The mood here isn't more or less tense than most of other gaming forums all over internet. We have people from all ages, and forums were created for that, share information, discuss things and try to point when something is wrong.

The user just pointed out that the information or the way you redacted the "article" is confusing, as you mention Playstation versions up and down. If he didn't say, another person would, that's how internet works. We can say you have been kindly pointed out that you can't say "Playstation 6 portable" in a thread that seems to be more like news than your opinion. Of course, we are free to say whatever we want, as long as we respect each other, but it would be nice if we try to adjust to reality, because otherwise forums would be full of crap that nobody ends believing lol.

I am the kind of person who does not feel aggression in every corner, because there are many different people in the world, and everyone says things in a different way, and sometimes we can feel good or bad, it's human condition and there is nothing we can do.

Just have fun and be weird like everyone else :)

---------------------------------

And now to the point, a portable console that is less powerful than a PS5 isn't any mystery, why would it? and I can certainly assure the console won't be 15W TDP, not even 15W low power CPU's are 15W anymore, and Steam Deck isn't an exception. That's why those Ryzens can be set to 25W, because 15W is too low for CPU + GPU, unless you're playing only Minecraft.

The only iGPU that matches the PS5 right now is the 8060S, but it's packed with a CPU that costs more than a PS5 and has a TDP way higher than 15W.

If a new Playstation Portable is going to be launched in 2026, my bet is that it will be close to an 8040S, which is a little bit more than a Series S.
I'm not sure I remember any of your previous posts - but IMO your fyre diplomatic skills are commendable af. I tried to do the same in the post where Dany said he will no longer make threads - but I also note that he may get a lil neurotic at times n jump the gun a little too abrasively? I'm not one to talk however, I can be a fierce jugular-crushing counterattacker (fuck autism! xD)

in any case, I hope our advisement gets through to him to mellow out n that we are a very friendly community compared to the typical ones overrun by troLLwagons

Dany, there is a pervasive, mutual bonding love between most-to-aLL of us here n anyone can be free to be themselves here - as long as abrasive vibes are minimal n beef extinguished far before any shit can hit the fan - cuz that's just it, we are FANS, our love for gaming in aLL its pertinent aspects keeps things chiLL, copacetic, n endearing. we all belong to at least one club in common n no one is an antagonist here or Prnzo streams his fist through their monitor screen but at the last nanosecond tweaks the offenders' naughty nose. lol I get a lil esoteric SiLLeH-G00ph but hopefully you get the gist. you don't have to 'preach to the choir', you're among friends here (right guyzz? RIGHT? xD )... carry on but lighten up a lil brvh ^_^

Why you labeled this PS6 when this has nothing to do with a home console? You meant to put PSVita successor.

I keep seeing this handheld referred to as a PS6 in various places. It's hella confusing. I assumed maybe it was a Switch-like device at first. There's nothing much going on now save for speculation. Steamdeck is looking better and better every day.

Any new SONY handheld wont make it.
They lost the handheld market, like Sega lost the console/hardware market.
The future of handheld war (excluding Smartphones) is between big corps: Nintendo, Steamdesk, Windows PC handhelds and "cheaper" Retro emulation handhelds.
The Windows handhelds will rise, because many big manufacters jumping in already and the constant and faster, advanced techno the most as AMD and Nvidia focus on making powerfull and "power efficient" SOC processors can make smaller "pocket" longer playtime handhelds.
Smartphones/tablets/ipads games and retro emulation already covers most causual gaming on the go already.

I mean... I would expect a modern Sony handheld to be weaker than a PS5.
The GameBoy was weaker than an NES. The GameBoy Advance was weaker than a N64. The PSP was weaker than a PS2. If Sony made a handheld that's stronger than the PS5 right now, now THAT would be news.

I really don't think this would be 5 times stronger.
No it won´t it´s was more jab at when PS4 and xbox one hit they released swicth witch barely preformed better than a PS3. This new Sony handheld might me max twice as strong as the Switch 2 seeing as the switch 2 is supposed to be as strong as a PS4 and not PS4 pro.

What ever it is I bet you it will be stronger and cheaper in the long run than the switch 2.

To be honest gaming hasn't evolved that much after the PS360 era.

I mean even to this day BloodBorne on the PS4 doesn't shy compared to PS5 games.
