I started playing Sonic x Shadow Generations about a week ago and today I started Sonic Origins Plus. Can never play too much Sonic!

I've just finished Sonic Adventure DX with BetterSADX, I did Sonic's story first (like every time I'm playing the game, lol) then for change I avoided Tails because his story is 80% Sonic's (minus the middle after the first Sky Chase) so I went for Knux then I did the first level of Amy/Big/Gamma then I did the rest of Amy's story as it was also the shortest followed by Big (which I speedran like hell) then went for Gamma and finally did Tails'. I like how you can swap from one character to another on the go as you want (as long as you met them in one playthrough but you unlock them all by the time you finish Sonic's story).

BetterSADX is truly the definitive way to appreciate the game thanks to the Dreamcast visuals with the QoL improvements from DX (such as being able to skip cutscenes, something that felt jarring on the Dreamcast without a way to fast forward in emulation) plus the original Windows release of DX with the Game Gear games (that were outrageously removed from the Steam release). Not even Dolphin with a wide-screen cheat is enough compared to that

Here's my save file and how much time I've spent in the game (the first one was for testing):

There are still some glitches and I would recommend doing them in your main playthrough but you can mess around with a different save file with levels out of order.

I just wish we could get the equivalent with Heroes but the undub hack + wide-screen cheat is good on its own.

I think I'll do Unleashed PC next but I also want to try SA2 since I did the first one.

I'm almost at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 on the XBLA (via Xenia Canary) since I'm right after the Pyramid part of the game. I am trying to play the game in its chronological story order rather than doing Hero then Dark stories (I remember doing Dark then Hero once but the game is really meant to be done in the other way around).

Iron Gate (Hot Shot)
City Escape (Big Foot)
Wild Canyon/Dry Lagoon
Sand Ocean
Radical Highway
Egg Quarters
Lost Colony
Weapons Bed
Prison Lane
Security Hall (Flying Dog)
White Jungle/Metal Harbor
Green Forest
At some point by now knuckles does Pumpkin Hill and Aquatic Mine
Mission Street
Route 101/Route 280
Sky Rail
Hidden Base
Pyramid Cave
Death Chamber (King Boom Boo + Egg Golem)
Eternal Engine/Cosmic Wall/Meteor Herd/Mad Space all happen at around the same general time
Crazy Gadget
Final Rush/Final Chase
Cannon's Core

While I truly miss the Adventure Fields from the first game I appreciate seeing the overall journey from both teams during the events of the game

Shame that Heroes nor SA1 had a map (not even in the instruction booklet) because it could've given a better view on Station Square and Mystic Ruins in term of distance and shape.

Update: I've finished the game and I forgot how tedious the final boss can be sometimes.

Now I can finally do Sonic Unleashed Recompiled (I'll skip 2006 because I want to wait the P-06 update which would add bosses).

I've started a few days ago and I try getting as many medals as possible (like in the hub levels) because I know that to be able to complete the main story (aka playing the last level with a minimum medal requirement) you'll need (according to a Gamefaqs post):

120 Sun (Level 7)
80 Moon (Level 6)

Which isn't a lot yet still annoying to go back to previous places just so you could finish the game (I wish those medals were like emblems in the Adventure games or the red rings in Colors onward, only required for bonus stuff and 100% than being allowed to finish the game which is already made longer with the night levels).

Also here's the full level list as a personal note to see where I am in the game:

I've just beaten Dark Gaia Phoenix so I'll just have to do Dragon Road Day right next.

Frontiers DE isn't upgradable from the base version, dang it...

The next Sonic game needs some OOMPH, you know what I mean? Like, it just needs a little OOMPH and it'll probably be perfect. You know?

Sonic Frontiers had really good controls, but the overworld was just... bleh. Needs more Sonic flair.

"A new animated series" eh? In the Sonic world, that doesn't mean anything 😭

Is it a TV show or a Youtube special? They're always vague when they first announce Sonic stuff 😭

I don't mind if it's a special short like Mania Adventure, Rise of the Wisp, that one about Shadow or anything promotional if it's good.

I've noticed how every animated series were often parallel world or alternative ways to see the series.

AoStH was vaguely related to the games but ultimately was its own thing, SatAM and Underground are set in a world where Robotnik has conquered the world (the first being tied to Archie in a way), Sonic X is an isekai (even if it tried to retell the events of the Adventure games and Battle despite them being set in Sonic's world), Boom was clearly a spinoff series and Prime was another parallel universe series.

I don't expect it to be set in a world similar to the mainline games...

I played Sonic Colors DS so here's what I've think about it.

Having played Sonic Colors DS a few days ago I have to say I quite like this game, I might like it more than the Wii version. To start off Colors DS has quite amount of differences from the Wii version such as in the story where it's told throughout these cutscenes.

A few other characters appear here but they're mostly in the mission levels in the game which speaking of levels. Each planet has 2 acts with 3 three mission levels as opposed to the Wii version having 6 acts then a boss fight.

Map comparison above for reference.

Colors DS has a different set of Wisps compared to the Wii version which while both has the same wisps such as Cyan Laser wisp, Yellow Drill wisp, and Orange Rocket wisp just to name a few. Each version has wisps exclusive Pink Spikes wisp, Green Hover wisp, Blue Cube wisp and Purple Frenzy wisp all being exclusive to the Wii version of Sonic colors while the Red Burst wisp and Violet Void wisp is exclusive to the DS version of Sonic colors.

I should mention that the chaos emeralds are in colors DS, 6 six emeralds are straight forward to get, with the end goal being get 50 rings then reach the goal and complete the special stage. Where things get a bit awkward is with the last emerald where you select game land then win the race against the computer player while having 50 rings.

Moving on The bosses are the weakest part of both games actually aside from the first three bosses which are fine (Tropical Coast, Sweet Mountain and Starlight Carnival) While the later bosses are kinda just repeats aside from the final boss Nega Wisp Armor in both version and if you get all of the emeralds in the DS version only you'll get the mother wisp boss fight which I find to be alright, It wasn’t boring like the Egg wizard in Sonic Rush Adventure but it doesn't excite me as much as the Egg Salamander in the first rush game. The DS version does have more engaging bosses than the Wii version so it has that going for it.

That's about it for Sonic Colors DS, this ended up being excellent game all around, I give it an 9/10. That's about it See ya.

Oh as an Bit of side note about Dimps, it's quite ashame that Sonic colors DS was Dimps last good sonic game because what came after are games that are mediocre such as Sonic 4 Episode 2 & Sonic Generations 3DS or be terrible such as Sonic 4 Episode 1 or be the most fuckass game to exist such as Sonic Lost World 3DS as a primary example. Sonic Lost World 3DS being Dimps is last Sonic Game they have developed to date which is honestly a pretty terrible note to end on on things considered.
