I played Sonic Colors DS so here's what I've think about it.
The best version of the game!

Yes, I said it.

Colors DS has a different set of Wisps compared to the Wii version which while both has the same wisps such as Cyan Laser wisp, Yellow Drill wisp, and Orange Rocket wisp just to name a few. Each version has wisps exclusive Pink Spikes wisp, Green Hover wisp, Blue Cube wisp and Purple Frenzy wisp all being exclusive to the Wii version of Sonic colors while the Red Burst wisp and Violet Void wisp is exclusive to the DS version of Sonic colors.

I should mention that the chaos emeralds are in colors DS, 6 six emeralds are straight forward to get, with the end goal being get 50 rings then reach the goal and complete the special stage. Where things get a bit awkward is with the last emerald where you select game land then win the race against the computer player while having 50 rings.

Moving on The bosses are the weakest part of both games actually aside from the first three bosses which are fine (Tropical Coast, Sweet Mountain and Starlight Carnival) While the later bosses are kinda just repeats aside from the final boss Nega Wisp Armor in both version and if you get all of the emeralds in the DS version only you'll get the mother wisp boss fight which I find to be alright, It wasn’t boring like the Egg wizard in Sonic Rush Adventure but it doesn't excite me as much as the Egg Salamander in the first rush game. The DS version does have more engaging bosses than the Wii version so it has that going for it.

That's about it for Sonic Colors DS, this ended up being excellent game all around, I give it an 9/10. That's about it See ya.

Oh as an Bit of side note about Dimps, it's quite ashame that Sonic colors DS was Dimps last good sonic game because what came after are games that are mediocre such as Sonic 4 Episode 2 & Sonic Generations 3DS or be terrible such as Sonic 4 Episode 1 or be the most fuckass game to exist such as Sonic Lost World 3DS as a primary example. Sonic Lost World 3DS being Dimps is last Sonic Game they have developed to date which is honestly a pretty terrible note to end on on things considered.

Strange let me try to fix that for a moment there

My bad, I just remembered you can remove any edit added to the text:

Red Burst is fun to use imo.

I don't mind Colours Wii having no Super Sonic final boss as it was a pretty tiring trope to see Sonic getting a last hour superpower that he couldn't use in the normal levels like in the Genesis games.

Also it's the first time since the Genesis days he can finally go underwater without dying (SA1 suffered from it but that was mostly because of boundaries and how it was their first game, SA2 removed any water patch for Sonic which felt like a regression).

Generations 3DS had at least a better level selection imo (yes, I prefer Casino Night over Chemical Plant) but they should've gone with every handheld games instead of just Water Palace from Rush (imagine if we got a Sonic Chaos or Triple Trouble level then the Advance trilogy and Rush + Rush Adventure).

I've finished Sonic Anniversary Edition, it's a hack adding some stuff like smoother animations, fixed glitches and remixed musics (with the options to turn them back on if you prefer). There are also Tails and Knuckles as selectable characters so you have a pretty complete experience as a romhack if you don't want to run Sonic Forever.

I really like "Vanilla+" hacks because I want to replay older games but also want a fresh experience at the same time (like Sonic 2 Community Edition and Sonic 3 Complete).

Despite every other final bosses in the franchise that raised the stakes even further, I still think this theme sounds like it would have been the very last confrontation against the doctor and the simplicity of the crushers is what made them threatening:

Original video got deleted so... here's a reupload (save it while you can)

I like the classic 2D Sonic games,
like the Sonic Mega Drive or the excellent Sonic Mania, or Sonic Advance, Sonic Rush...
The Classic games are still good ones (maybe except vanilla Sonic 1 but thankfully there are mods and fan remasters like Forever that fixed everything).

Sonic Advance games are decent overall but Dimps' level design and the GBA screen crunch made some levels infuriating and who could guess that the shoulder buttons could've been used for custom actions for some levels? I also feel like the insta-shield Sonic had in Advance was useless (it could've been a good multi tasking tool like in 3&K that rewards people mastering the timing) and I don't fully get why you have to finish the game with all 4 characters (as much as I like to see Amy's playable debut in 2D she's incidentally the worst character outside of boss fights).

Advance 2 is a proto-rush game but once again the screen crunch made it harder and as much as I like speed orientated gameplay it also had the weakest platforming and I don't like the requirement to go to the special stages either. Cream is a nice addition but is basically a "very easy mode" character.

Advance 3 improved in various areas yet is the hardest of the three from its level design and I don't fully get the need for a hub level in 2D when a simple menu could've worked. It had a great level theme selection (I like seeing a good reinterpretation of Green Hills unlike Forces) and a great OST (thanks to Hideaki Kobayashi of Phantasy Star Online fame) but I don't fully get the tag system changing the character abilities. Still good to see a new antagonist next to Robotnik but you had to play Battle to fully understand and it's yet another "creature gets all 7 chaos emeralds and betrays eggman" type of plot

The Rush series is still good but you have to get the tension system (which I find superior to any 3D boost game's meter) as you need to do tricks which enhances and modernizes the 2D gameplay. Shame that Rush Adventure is trying to be a Zelda Phantom Hourglass clone with the travelling between islands but that's not too bad when the levels are good (if not better than Rush 1's).

Colours DS is better than the Wii and remaster and had more challenge. Generations 3DS on the other hand felt too easy to the point I had to reach S rank to feel a bit of challenge (and having Classic being able to do the homing attack was simply the worst game design decision when they could've given him the insta spindash instead).

Segasonic the Hedgehog is easy to emulate via Mame (or FinalBurn Neo) yet you're missing 50% of the experience by just using the joystick for movements.

I sadly couldn't play on the actual arcade machine but a modern multi-game one with a trackball add-on so I could get almost the genuine experience (probably around 95% of how actual japanese players enjoyed the game back then).

You couldn't believe how hard it actually is with the trackballs, you have to manage to give a constant push while being careful not to fall as well as being careful to not fall nor get hurt by traps and hazards so you have to roll carefully. This hurts the arm at the end of the fourth level (more or less halfway into the game) so it's getting even harder towards the end.

Here's how one cabinet looked like:

Small funfact bonus:

I think it's genuinely cute and was the most logical way of doing it, too bad we got to deal with odd blobs as much as I don't mind them too much

I'd like the adventure format more if they stuck with Sonic only.

Give me a game entirely focused on Sonic, with similar platforming to his campaigns in Adventure 1 and 2, and we're golden.

Or have Tails and Knuckles but stick to the normal levels (with some side paths if you do better like in the Genesis and some Boost titles like Unleashed's day stages rewarding the more skilled players with shortcuts).

I've always wondered if it's because of managers at Sega asking them to make the game longer than X hours so they put ways to lengthen it or if it was the director of the Sonic Team that wanted that...

I have read somewhere that the day levels in Unleashed took so long to be modelled and optimised that they couldn't make a game with too many of them (as they're expanding a lot and are a strain on the CPU).

Mobius Evolution is a pretty good Sonic 1 romhack but my small gripe is that some of the levels are getting a bit too long when the original game was meant to have fairly short ones as there are 3 Acts per Zones

I think some of the levels are a bit tedious and I feel that they wanted to make the levels bigger and more maze-like but this feels like Sonic cannot run a lot and compared to Sonic 2 you're pretty much stuck in one path.

Still glad to have redone it and I also appreciate that Blaze is a selectable character.
