I dont know if anyone remember, but many years ago a small project that was like 'Battlefield 2142' (aka the good futuristic one) but with ships, boarding, more customization, etc. It was on early access and it stuck there for a long while. Multiplayer want exploiting with servers, but it was there. I personally thought it was abandoned and even if I got it many years ago I just forget about it.

Until today, when I realize that the game finally reached its 1.0:

So, if 'Angels Fall First' a modern Battlefield 2142?

Yesn't

Far from being a Battlefield game but with ships, it has way more complex open class system, different objective games with 'Assault' ships, territories, and more. For the classes it is more of a 'build your kit' rather than 'This is an engineer', which is more confusing but also more open to fit whatever you want to do.

The same goes with the maps/game type. There are you classic ground maps, but you dont 'run and board' your vehicles, space assault missions are like Battlefront 2 space battles but on steroids.

Now, not everything is awesome either: the game is clunky and I wouldnt be surprised if they just admitted that they never put a single though on the UI design, since it is a mess that will take some time to get used to. The same goes with the gameplay elements, if you are expecting just a futuristic Battlefield you will have a more hardtime to get the flow of the game like me. If I could just say something, I think it is more close to Dust 514 than BF 2142, but many probably dont know what Im talking about.

So yeah, the game is out on 1.0 and available on steam and not that expensive. Even if you just like chaotic matches, the game has full bot support for multiplayer servers and single player. And as today, there are quite populated servers.

I got it in the Summer Sale, and was pleasantly surprised.

The incursion game mode is the best, but I really like the maps which have the ship boarding option. Its just so cool to know that while you are wrecking everything inside, you are also helping the guys outside with taking down capital ships.

Or the maps which switch from space combat to ground combat midway through the match, those are great as well.

The AI is competent, but I have seen it go braindead on occasion, still, its a good compromise, since the game does have a low player count.

It can be a bit unstable on Linux, but I haven't seen many issues. The community is pretty chill from what I have seen.

Its stuck in UE3 tho, both a curse (janky engine) and a blessing (later UE versions are worse).
