Understandable .
Overall i think , the SH-fans should stay with the games they actual love and let the newer ones being released for what they are . If they have value about the series then they should stay at the core .

Konami wont step back using old IP-names and they dont care about the lore since the Silent Hill origins game . And even other development teams making those games which dont share the same concept , vision and lore that team silent had . Only vague concepts and a brand name that doesnt offer the context from the original games but atleast people have a name to recognise a game-genre atleast .

I accept that people want only name-recognition and not a game series with its own world , lore and consistencies . Good . I hate retcons . Looks like the new games go with the retcon . The Konami product must be sold and i dont wanna stay in the way for that to let Konami be above the water . And SH:TF aint for me . The deal is over .

At this point were the xbox 360/ps3 games not bad and actually good SH games because it has the SH name on it . SH can be whatever it is nowadays . Even Hello Kitty is part of the SH universe . Hell , lets put the Power Rangers too in the SH universe . Godzilla ? Fine by me . Add the Adams Family too .

But that the fans actually get mad at a game they dont like and is not the original lore of the team silent ganes , is rather idiotic when the results are clearly there that it aint for the original SH-fans but people that are interested in those new games .

Im ready to jump out of this legacy IP-fandom because i wanna finally see something new and fresh that sticks out without being depending on name-reckognition alone . Everyone can play the older games and its still a " take it or leave it " - scenario .

I think a shit game is shit, and giving it any pass or insisting others recognize it as "good" in some post rationalization break from reality isn't healthy. Bandwagoning, fan boys, or people trying to "flip the script" or promote weird cultural trends should stick to their own lane and not act rudely or make asses out of themselves, especially in duplicitous and self demeaning ways. Because that behavior is disgusting.

Most IP need to stop being franchises, it sucks that the goal of nearly every non-indie release is to franchise everything but that's the world we live in. All I can do is be happy that Silent Hill largely allowed itself to become a more unique franchise by letting individual devs leave their mark on it. If a franchise has to trudge along for the sake of "line go up" on a spreadsheet and because we live in a static culture that can only endlessly remake and repackage legacy brands for the sake of recognition, at least this one gets to be different depending on who is at the helm. SHf and Townfall are super unique and that's wonderful. After all, the plan originally was for the series to be largely anthological so this fits with that ethos brilliantly.

Game averages mediocre to poor on every major platform. It wasn't a "vocal minority" it was critically panned.

If you think that metacritic user reviews are proof of any game's general consensus you're too far gone tbh. 90% of metacritic's user reviews are people who are reactionaries that just label anything they dislike for any reason a wildly unfair score in the negative or blind fanboys who give something an incredibly rave review. In many cases so little is said about the game that it is clear most of the users haven't even played the game, after all you don't need proof of playtime to leave a review on metacritic. You look at PSN Store, Steam and Xbox review scores (aka the platforms where people reviewing have to have owned the game to comment on it) and its mostly positive. I can't believe anyone would think the reliable way to gauge consensus on a game would be to go to metacritic user reviews lol. The fact you even referenced the far more reliable Steam

Long story short SH-F a mediocre game has rabid fanboys that can't handle its own mediocrity. Truly, thought provoking stuff.

BTW, my "elitist" opinion on the "good" games in the franchise.

Or, you can take into account the fact that Silent Hill F actually did receive lukewarm reception and objectively does have serious problems and was made entirely off of capitalizing on an IP the game in question has next to nothing to do with. And, like any other licensed property it was lacking in vision and execution that its famed namesake achieved which made it famous in the first place. Regardless, and I say this with utter contempt for anyone promoting this game and behaving in this manner. SUCK ON IT. I will repeat this information for any and all people that act in a similar manner as they can not differentiate opinion of a work of fiction vs personal attacks and insults. Nothing about this is surprising anymore. I do feel bad for Xbox players, as they literally have nothing at this point, other than backwards compatibility.

And to think back in the day, coming off the heels of x360, i was insanely excited for the next xbox to be revealed, look where we are now with it.

Silent Hill Townfall looks alright, need to see more but honestly based on what i saw at state of play, more interested in SH1 remake still.

XONE before it launched was the last excitement I had for anything Xbox related. I am glad I stuck with PS4, but it was originally gonna do the same thing with that whole, online drm debialcal and no used games, but MS went on first at that E3 showing instead of Sony. Sony then decided to backpedal instantly on it. Some people still forget this.

My interest in a first-person Silent Hill is pretty much nonexistent after The Short Message. Unless it's more like Condemned or RE7/8 and less of a walking sim, which I don't have faith in given the developer's other two games, I think this'll be a bargain bin buy if I play it at all.

Please don't. Most of us here are getting along here fine, and I like talking about this game and want to see what it has to offer. Don't let a few people ruin it. If you've noticed, I'veonly been focusing on the game at this point. I even apologized for my slight derail.

This is basically their version of that PT demo from way back. With a mix of Alien Isolation. There is melee combat and shooting though. Of course, Simon is just an average guy, so he's probably not gonna be the best crack shot in the world. If anything, his aiming is going to be similar to somebody like Ethan or Ripley's daughter.

Annapurna Interactive, Konami and Screen Burn Interactive talked up Silent Hill: Townfall quite a bit after its State of Play reveal, but didn’t mention the price. While digital storefronts have yet to open pre-orders, Best Buy in the United States has listed the PS5 version for $49.99.

Which is interesting because Annapurna’s Leanne Loombe called it a “full-length, high-quality game” that the team could “present with confidence, following Silent Hill f and Silent Hill 2 [remake].” It’s also considered Screen Burn’s “biggest and most ambitious game yet,” according to writer and director Jon McKellan. Considering that the last two Silent Hill games retailed for $69.99, it’s interesting to see Konami going for a lower price point with Townfall.

Perhaps it says something about the length of the experience, but it would give a bit more credence to rumors of Townfall being part of an anthology of games. If other indie developers joined the initiative to deliver their own titles, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Konami bundle them all into one package. Then again, it may just be because this is a new IP in the franchise without any prior connections, but it doesn’t explain Silent Hill f’s pricing.

Granted, this may be a placeholder listing – even the box art is “not final” – so stay tuned for updates. Silent Hill: Townfall launches later this year for PS5 and PC with no word on a potential Xbox Series X/S version. It’s the first full-length title in the series with first-person perspective, and that means a different approach to horror (albeit one that’s still in the spirit of Silent Hill)
