Oh lucky me, with nothing better to do today, I rewatch the masterpiece that is the original IT with Tim Curry, because clearly, no one else can even come close to being Better.
Honestly, the remake? A joke. I’d rather stare at paint dry. Also, I dabble in some spooky season art

I watched a few movies: Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, The Peanuts Movie, Ratchet & Clank, Incredibles 2, Dog Man, Captain Underpants, all three Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, the final Hobbit movie, Warcraft, Night of the Museum: The Secret of the Tomb and Gamera 2: Attack of Legion.

Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966)

I like the silly kaiju movie. Though even I think the title should be more accurately be called "Godzilla VS Ebirah Featuring Mothra from the Mothra May Cry Series".

Still very silly fun. Highly recommended.

I watched Weapons. Pretty good actually.

The title is sort of misleading. I thought initially it was some kind of horror movie that involved super powers and kids but I got something quite unexpected.

For my birthday, my boyfriend and I watched Kwaiden because it's like 3 hours and I'm not allowed to have us watch SD Gundam OVAs after I spent most of last year's pausing to talk about it. Also because we wanted to watch something together other than Hausu since I normally do that for the Halloween movie.

Honestly a really good anthology movie with a lot of great atmosphere, highly recommended.

It was captivating! The first 10 mins being set in Northern Iraq was very unexpected. The performances were very good across the board, special shout-out to Lee J. Cobb. Wasn't expecting to see him here, but he's always a treat.

The real stars however were the make-up and the cinematography. The film utilises a tonne of different shots and styles, it felt at once both professional and amateurish, conventional and arthouse. Good stuff.
I've watched it and I agree.

I find the effects impressive as well.

Also I came back from watching it

Saw Un de la légion a 1936 movie involving parts comedy and parts war drama.( The mix was quite well done ).

I recently watched And Soon the Darkness and Shin Godzilla.

The first one was good, but nothing I'd be dying to rewatch, and the other one I enjoyed a lot more.

The Ghost of Yotsuya (Shintoho version, 1959)

Between how campy it feels, the genuinely good effects, and how enjoyable it was when it really got going, it's hard to imagine a better adaption of this story.

Highly recommended.

Forgot to tell that two days ago I saw The Running Man (the 2025 version which is more based on the book).

I have the book by the way.

watched Querelle for the first time a couple days ago. My first Fassbinder film, so fucking good. queer filmmaking masterpiece. every frame just drips with style and sensuality. gotta check out more of his work asap.

Brief Encounter for the film's 80th anniversary & The Running Man (2025)

Brief Encounter was an absolute treat. I'd never seen it before, and for a film made 80 years ago it still holds up tremendously. Less than 90 minutes too, so there's not an ounce of fat on it.
Both lead performances are wonderful, but the real stars are the lighting and cinematography. Very good writing also.

The Running Man was good. Some of the characters weren't given much to do, and the film is overly long at 2.5 hrs. They also changed or omitted some of my favourite scenes from the book, even though I must concede it's more faithful to the source material than the Schwarzenegger film from the 80's. Both are fun in their own ways though, and I'm glad to say I've gotten to see two Bachman books get the Silver Screen treatment this year.

I managed to watch Zootopia 2 in theaters. It was pretty good.

The Simpsons Movie
Watched this again for the first time in years.
Just wondering, has it aged well? I liked it back then but sometimes it feels more like a big episode or a compilation of smaller ones.

I hope that the second one will be as good at least (but considering modern Simpsons I'm being apprehensive).

I heard it kinda bombed and that it had negative reviews. I understand the nostalgia for the '87 one but in the same way I'm glad to see something more faithful to the original source material.

Although being less faithful doesn't mean being worse (Blade Runner is vastly different from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? yet is a classic of cyberpunk/TechNoir).

Maybe a bit too long for its own good imo but I kinda liked how it felt similar to Minority Report (with Cruise) and Total Recall in several aspects. Almost as if the movie was also wanting to be a hommage to 90's sci-fi/cyberpunk as well.

Anyway, since I've seen the movie I'm currently reading the book.

You should also check this one which is slower but also from a book that released before

as well as Das Millionenspiel.
What was the other Bachman adaption?

It had a huge budget, which I doubt it made a return on. But there were quite a few people at my screening, and it had been out for 2 weeks by the time I got around to seeing it.
I only watched the original '87 for the first time the day before going to see the new one. It was fine, but forgettable. The Hunters and the other RM contestants were better in the '87 film though, imo.

I love the book. I read it when Zi was about 14~15, and it was a non-stop page turner. It may have aged poorly by now, idk, but it has one of the most horrifying sequences in any book I'd ever read at that point...
The part where he is escaping the hotel, and gets trapped upside down between two vent shafts, slowly being cooked alive. I didn't even realise I had claustrophobia until I read that sequence.
Unfortunately in the film this part is 5 seconds long, and doesn't capture the real terror of the moment. They also changed the ending, for the worse if you ask me. Which is something they also did with the other Bachman film adaptation that came out this year...

Both of these sounds great. I'm not familiar with either. I will see if I can source them, thanks. :]

The Long Walk. One of my other favourites growing up. The book that got me back into reading after reading nothing but dry academic texts for 3 years. Read it when I was around 20. Couldn't put it down. Sat down in a busy city centre and read the whole thing over a couple of hours. Magnificent book.

I hope that won't kill Glen Powell's career.

It felt more like wrestling (I really liked Dynamo's intro, it was absolutely funny) but in a way I kinda liked the masked guy from the remake because of how he's basically a mercenary.

Hey, that sequence reminds me a bit of Die Hard (especially the original novel which was even cruder than the movie).

Both of these sounds great. I'm not familiar with either. I will see if I can source them, thanks. :]
Just keep in mind they're much more talkative and slower paced (and are more politically heavy imo).

Ah darn, I've missed that one.
