Game Description:

Shantae: Risky's Revenge is an Action-Adventure/Platformer 2D video game published by WayForward and developed by Wayforward released on October 4th, 2010 for the DS.

Shantae: Risky's Revenge is the sequel to the Game Boy Color game, Shantae. In it, you play as the half-genie Shantae, who can use her long ponytail like a whip to attack, and later gains the abilities to transform into different creatures by performing special dances. These creatures (the monkey, elephant and mermaid) allow Shantae to explore different areas all over the world that were previously inaccessible to her normal self. Shantae can also purchase magic spells that allow her to either protect herself, or fight offensively. These items require gems (which are earned by defeating enemies), and some items also require special "magic jams" in the purchase price, which are hidden away in the overworld or dungeons.

When Shantae's Uncle Mimic returns from an expedition, he presents the residents of Scuttle Town his latest find. But he's accidentally brought the wrong thing, an ancient lamp. Before he gets a chance to put it back, the lady pirate Risky Boots turns up with her minions and swipes the lamp! Shantae, eager to help, makes chase, and begins another adventure. Shantae must find three magical seals to prevent Risky Boots from unlocking the magic lamp's evil power.

How to Play:

(Using the MelonDS DS core in RetroArch)
  1. Make sure you have the MelonDS DS core installed in RetroArch (the one that has DS twice in the name, it's the better one imo)
  2. Download the bios files required for DSi emulation from this page (you will need to find NAND versions for the region matching the version you get, I dunno where the Japan NAND can be found)
  3. You will need to rename the files according to what the Core Information page for the core in RetroArch says. With the core loaded go to Information -> Core Information from the menu to see it.
  4. In Core Options for MelonDS make sure that Boot Mode is set to Direct instead of Native in the System section
  5. Load the zip containing the .nds file and the game should boot up and play fine.
Included are .cia versions that can be installed on a custom firmware enabled 3DS using FBI.

Don't worry, works even in the shittiest phone you have but its flaws are the lack of multiplayer support and that exists very few games that don't work well but mostly they are shovelware, have some special function in the cartridge/requires a specific add-on or are software for DS but not real games.
Is my emulator of choice for DS since like 9 or 10.
I'm old school, I grew up with No$GBA way back since 2007.

I've never tried DraStic before so I'm unfamiliar with how it works, I should give it a try at some point, thank you.

I was meaning the Android version. DraStic is very much less exigent. Games that run smoothly and can put fast-foward x4 on DraStic will go with performance issues on MelonDS if you have a not so very powerful phone.

Very true, No$GBA may be the least taxing DS emulator that I know of, of course it only works on Windows, if you are using other devices I believe DeSmume is less taxing than MelonDS.

But i think that MelonDS is more exigent so isn't very recommendable for low-end devices

No, Drastic doesn't support DSi. If you can run it though, MelonDS is fairly easy to use, has better features, and is free.

Nobody told me there was an easy way to emulate DSi...

They use the same emulator and I doubt there'll ever be more than 50 at most get added to the repo (and that's pushing it) I don't see the need for doing anything more than putting (DSiWare) in the post title
Is more for easier identification, like the SEGA Genesis games here are divided in regular Genesis games, 32X and CD i think that divide the DS games in regular DS and DSi don't make any harm.

Now the DSiWare games are going to be avaliable on the repo? Great but i think that DSiWare games needs its own category since they are different from regular DS games

It's because until very recently we did not have a DSi section in the Repo, only retail DS games were available.

That, and DSi emulation is fairly recent, it's true you could install these on a modded system for a long time but as far as I know it wasn't possible to run them on an emulator until fairly recently.

Edit: I just remembered there's an unofficial port of Super Mario 64 for the DSi (not Super Mario 64 DS but the og game) I suppose I could share that one here later.
We still don't have a "DSi" section. I just put DSiWare in parentheses lol Technically RGT/CDromance could have had this game years ago, but because of the various aforementioned factors nobody bothered. There's no need for a separate DSi label. Just putting it in parentheses is fine. There's only like a few dozen notable must have DSi exclusive games anyways

I'm surprised it wasn't already on here. Especially considering that both the original game and "Advance" have been made available for quite some time.

Nevertheless, more Shantae is always welcome.

I wish this was easier to play on MuOS. It would be perfect on a small device with low resolution. Playing the DS or PC versions on my TV, it's just way too pixelated (although slapping a CRT shader with VkBasalt does help).

You have done an excellent job with the tutorial, I remember last year having trouble digging for the correct bios to get this running on MelonDS and RetroArch, I uploaded mine on googledrive for preservation in case somebody needed them for whatever reason.

It is worth mentioning, for those unaware, DSi Roms (.nds format) can also work on real hardware via Twilight Menu (some even run on og DS using the correct setup btw).

Also, while DSi can be emulated (using the correct emulator and bios) depends on your setup several games may be unplayable due to requiring the access of a camera, games like WarioWare Snapped are very reliant on the camera, even games like Rayman and Earthworm Jim for the DSi decided to require a camera in some areas for whatever reason despite not needing it in literally every version released prior or since.
....except I forgot to mention where to put the bios files. Damn it... ::sailor-embarrassed It's the System folder used by RetroArch which should be pretty obvious anyway. Also MelonDS supports camera emulation as long as you actually have a camera. Like a webcam or camera on your phone or whatever. So those games can be played if you set the camera up in it

Probably since nobody could figure out how to dump the game to a playable .nds file. You can use GodMode9 on a 3DS with the game installed to make .nds and .cia dumps of it. Then use MelonDS along with the DSi firmware and nand files to play it. MelonDS seems to be the only emulator that can play DSiWare games. desmume has no support for the DSi firmware, and it's a common one people like to use. I'd say those factors are why Spike or anybody else never considered to add it. I have a handful of other ones to add but I'll do it randomly at different days instead of all at once

been waiting for a rom of this game for some time

Metroid Dread takes place after Fusion. It's the reason why Samus was being hunted by those robots controlled by Raven Beak. He was after the Metroid DNA in her body that she got from the events in Fusion. Here's the Wiki page about the game. Dunno what made you think it took place between those games. It's literally Metroid 5 while Fusion was Metroid 4.
I was thinking of the Nintendo Direct where it was first revealed. I remember them saying it was a prequel to Fusion.
