Serious question about Nintendo remakes

Out of curiosity - which are the bad ones?
The game that inspired this thread was the Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga remake on 3DS, which is a downgrade from the original in every single way – worse art style (by a mile), far worse music (they completely ruined the game's OST with that soundfont), weird incorrect input lag issues during battles, and loads and loads of useless Nintendo gimmicks that just make playing the thing unfun. I would recommend the original to the nines, but the remake just SUUUUUUUUUCKS. I never played the Bowser's Inside Story one, but I'm sure it's awful, too.

Super Mario 64 DS
Metroid Zero Mission
Bad news – both of these games are more than 20 years old. ?

I just realized that, it was also one of the first Nintendo remake I've tried

Thinking about it, Nintendo's internal studios don't make that many remakes overall.

Most are made by a third party company too (like with the 3DS versions of the N64 Zelda games).

Aaah right, totally forgot those games even happened! Yeah I remember the Mario & Luigi remakes being pretty iffy. Really weird remakes, too - the originals were still pretty new-ish back then and still look great! What was even the point of remaking them?

The 3DS era in general had some of the lowest lows in Nintendo's history. Sticker Star is still one of like three games I take personal offense at.

OK, RGT, I was just thinking about this question and realized that I couldn't come up with an answer, so I pose it to you:

Can you think of a good officially-released remake of a first-party Nintendo game that's come out in the past 20 years? That means from January 2005 onwards, though the original game can have been released in any year. First-party means no Game Freak, either, so you're not allowed to say HG/SS.

Am I forgetting something obvious? Have all remakes of Nintendo games sucked for the past two decades? The only thing that comes to mind is the Metroid 2 remake on 3DS, but even then it was shipped out to a third-party developer that basically just made a new game. Please, enlighten me!
it's not exactly a remake, but i liked "A link between worlds" on 3DS

Old or not, Mario 64 DS was awful to control and also I heavily disliked being forced to play with Yoshi and the cap mechanic. Remaking, a game that was all about freedom of movement, with more restrictions and with worse controls is not the best of ideas. It marks a problem of a few nintendo remakes of the era: trying to mess with the core of the game instead of just building upon it (like adding post-game content, extra stages and optional bosses) which is the same problem I had with Yoshi Island DS.

Yeah, I didn't like Mario 64 DS that much. I prefer the original game.

Somehow sounds better than the Resident Evil 3 Remake.
(which isn't a nintendo game but still.)

Absolutely not.
Believe me, I’m not trying to be facetious. Trust me, Nintendo doesn’t deserve my sarcasm.

They were pointless cash grabs on the two best Mario & Luigi games to keep the 3DS alive when the Switch was still new and lead AlphaDream to file bankruptcy with no help from Nintendo to acquire them. Thankfully, Brotherhship gave the series a comeback.

Unless I'm wrong, wasn't Brothership made by former Alphadream employees? Did they ever form another company or get hired by Nintendo or something?

Brothership was developed by the former AlphaDream team that formed a new company.

Remakes from 20 years ago. ?
Mario vs. Donkey Kong was pretty decent
Super Mario RPG remake was good
Link's Awakening remake was good
Ocarina of Time 3D was great
Majora's Mask 3D was great
Another Code: Recollection was good
Famicom Club Detective series were good
Advance Wars 1&2 Reboot camp was good

Not sure if there were anymore considering most of Nintendo games are remastered HD ports with new quality of life enhancements.

I really did like the Yoshi's Island remake on the DS, but I'm reading that it was outsourced to another studio... so it probably doesn't count? Damn, I think Nintendo properties just sucked when handled by them. What a way to twist the knife on their aggressive anti-fan policies.
Wasnt it some sort of sequel?

Yeah, Yoshi's Island DS was an original game, you goofballs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! None of the Yoshi platformers have ever been remade, to my knowledge.

Idk if it counts, but has anyone played Super Mario Bros Deluxe on GBC? I'd say it's a better remake than the All-Stars version. It added a lot of new content and an overworld map SMB3 style.

for real?? I could swear a lot of levels were copy by copy identical to levels of the original with extra platforms/gimmicks put on top of then

Anyways, the Kirby remakes are always solid. Superstar Ultra, Return To Dreamland Deluxe. Worthy additions, respected the original art, etc.
Superstar Ultra is overrated, the extra modes are extremely lazy and the new artstyle/menus/cutscenes lack the charm of the og
