Game Description:

Rude Breaker (ルードブレーカー) is a Shoot 'Em Up video game published by Compile and developed by Compile released on May 5th, 1996 for the PC-98.

This is a rare and notable PC-98 title. It was only available via subscription to Disk Station Special magazine and was included in its 10th volume. It's a spin-off of the Aleste series and was the last original shmup developed by Compile before disbanding in 2003 (Zanac X Zanac was released for PS1 in 2001 but was a remake and not an original concept).

More in-depth info about this game can be found here

To play this game you must insert the .hdm file into the first floppy drive and restart the emulator. The controls seem pretty simple and use the arrow keys and space/z.

I highly recommend the emulator Neko Project 21/W for playing on Windows. It's the most feature complete emulator for the NEC PC-9801 and is in active development receiving frequent updates. Use this guide for help on how to obtain and configure the emulator.

Okey - I have a huge question for everyone. Does anyone know what the actual name of the character designer/cover artist for this game is? I've looked all over - searching pages and wikis for the game itself, Compile, and even the artist's handle from the credits and I cannot find any more info - their nickname in the game's credits is TACHIBANA. I'm kind of obsessed with their style and any info on them would be super awesome. ::weirdasshands

in translate.google.com you just need to upload an image

also can find the soundtrack in different formats the links below
Also you can use Google Lens to translate words and texts that appears on your phone camera, :d¡ Btw, thx for the soundtrack links, I'm going to hear it in a Nokia Asha 303, ou yeah! ^-^/

Thanks, this is amazing af. Where did you get the art for the character from? I'll use this as the cover since no official cover for this seems to exist.
I found the image on a wiki page about the game character. I am leaving the original image and the source. It is an honor for me that you are using it as the cover.

I was looking for a square cover for this game, but I didn't find much in my search, so I decided to make one with AI. In case anyone finds it useful, here it is in two formats. Thank you for uploading these games.

Hey, thanks for the selection of games on this peculiar platform.
I don't care at all about eroge games, but here are the games I discovered on PC-98, a few you posted already :

Chitty Chitty Train (1993) trad
CRW Metal Jacket - trad
CRW 2
Dead of the Brain-trad
Dead of the Brain 2 - trad
Digan no Maseki-Boot then F12-load disk in FFD2 then reset RetroArch
Flame zapper kotsujin
Last Breaker
Marine Philt
Melpool Land - trad
Neji Shiki (Yoshiharu Tsuge - Garo)
Night Slave
Policenauts PC98
Possessioner
Rude Breaker
Rusty-trad
Steam Heart's PC98 - trad
Tamashii no Mon - Dante Shinkyoku yori- menu trad
Tokyo Twilight Busters
Ugetsu Kitan (Yoshiharu Tsuge - Garo)
X-Girl
Zeta
Zeta II - Nirvana

Night slave is a cool run n gun where you can disable eroge images in the options, good o know.

Zeta and Zeta II are very interesting visual novels like Snatcher... couldn't go very far in them as it's totally in Japanese, but still beautiful.

I have two games from manga artist Yoshiharu Tsuge up there, out of curiosity (mangaka from "Garo").

Dead of the Brain 2 has been translated, but the authors explicitely asked for their work not to be posted anywhere else than where they did (romhack -dot- ing if I recall?), which, imho, should be respected, but you could link to the translation and post the original untranslated game, maybe.

Steam Heart's has been vastly improved on Saturn.

Ploicenauts is the most beautyful in this version, even if it's all japanese.

Can't manage to play Tokyo Twilight busters, if someone understands more.

And Tamashii no Mon is pretty interesting.

To that I would add Jesus II on PC-88, which has some of the best graphics I've seen, but I really can't navigate in it as it's all Japanese and PC-88 is not as user-friendly control wise as PC-98.
Thanks for the suggestions. I still planned on posting Dead of the Brain 2 anyways since it's on archive.org and other sites than just their original post and one of the games in my PC-98 roms to post folder. I'll only take the post down if they show up and make a comment. Way I look at things if you don't want something shared then don't put it on the internet in the first place. If they didn't want their patch hosted to other places then they should have just shared it with a small circle of friends instead of the internet.

I have a list of like 40 PC-98 games I plan to post and those two are among them. I can't be sure exactly when but sometime next week those two will probably be added

For a PC-98 game , the graphics look insane . Almost arcade quality .

Compile are tech-magicians at this point.

The thing that saddens me the most is to know that this game runs way better on real hw than on emulator. :(

Visual Novels aren't for everyone, and that's perfectly fine.
And don't mind eroge, especially vanilla ones. But, I will say I wouldn't mind seeing CRW: Metal Jacket and Tuned Heart on here. both are Safe For Work, both are also Turn-Based Tactical RPGs. I'd even consider CRW: Metal Jacket to be similar to Front Mission in a way.

Yeah me too, beside the eroge factor, Im also didnt like visual novel in general ...
