Unless you are doing a speedrun or something, I say no. I use ss all the time to save time and sanity: it's the same as resetting and trying again, imo.
Now that said, I am probably going to have to legit cheat (duckstation max damage) for this fucking game. I got stuck on this fucker since I last posted View attachment 89570
so been taking a break and playing a game that doesn't piss me off. And a fucking time limit? I guess the idea is if you can't beat it fast enough, to keep whacking away on it to grind up your anti ghost weapon affinity or however this system works? So the game is trying to help you? Who's got time for that O_o If this game is a grind fest, I'm gonna go ahead and turn on max damage now and just give Sydney a 999 damage crossbow bolt up his ass.
If you don't really have a good weapon, you could try casting light spells with your anti evil/undead weapon. If that's an earlygame ghost, you don't really need to worry about affinities and should just cast the light attack spell you have.
Yeah I was gonna say, for most of the phantoms, my Ashley might as well have been a wizard lmao
I relied on either soul shock or one of my other offensive spells to take out the ghosts based on their elemental affiliation.
Tho, like @diapered I've been temped by finding some cheats or something at times. Especially here in the final dungeon. I've reached the divine dragon and my usual tactic of tanking damage and reflecting it hasn't worked so far.
I'm gonna go and find a dark affiliated weapon and grind it against the dragon dummy.
Don't give up, this game has a weird curve, it's super hard in the beginning but it gets much easier in the middle once you get access to better resources like affinity spells, gems and some understanding of the equipment improvement mechanics. And remember to always carry a weapon of each type with you(Blunt/slash/pierce) and also a silver weapon.

I know this is a little late but one of the human dummies in the Wine Cellar I think has affinity for each of the different limbs. Don't remember what is what, but you hit it and you get elemental affinity instead of physical
Edit: not "I think it's a human dummy" but I think it's in the Wine Cellar

Restarted and I'm going to try to get good at chains at the first dummy (didn't feel like back tracking).
Watched some speedruns and looks like chains are essential to beat this fucking game with any efficiency. I can finally get 1 chain deep reliably, but fuck this game and I hate all you assholes that voted for this

Good idea, I only use 2 chain attacks and I finally got up to 15. The 40% increase damage and healing one. To me the timing just seems easier with those 2. And you don't really need to restart, you should have gotten or almost been to the teleport spell.

Didn't make it that far First ghost kept kicking my ass, then I watched an agdq where one chain combo killed it instantly O_o So yea, I didn't lose much progress in terms of story (still spent lots of time ), but looks like you need to be able to do chains at least a little, and it looked so cool!

That's fair, and you don't suck it's a high learning curve game. You also get a silver dagger early that's great for getting rid of undead and phantoms early. You can change your weapons mid fight to help different threats
I believe I did try that or some spell I had, idk, already rage restarted, so deleted that save to start fresh. This time I'm not just using the crossbow and trying to get good with other weapons. I'll keep that in mind ^_^
I know! But in all seriousness, I do WANT to like this game. As much as it pisses me off, the design is great and the combat is really interesting and deep: I do see what the developers were going for.
I all my rgt frens (even those that wanted to torture me with vagrant story ) and everyone here should know I like to be over-dramatic when frustrated.
Ok, I can fire off a 5 chain back and forth with temper and heavy shot with sword. I guess these are best right now? But just been on the dummy, let's see how it works in practice, but I think I have a good counting strat: the ! doesn't work for me, so I count like I'm playing guitar.
Should I be worried about class penalties? All this practice lowered beast/undead (but I guess made my sword into a man killer lol) I think one guide I read said class is mostly irrelevant (affinity/type is much more important), so I'm not too worried.

Does not respawn, I can confirm that. I didn't even know you could kill it O_o Loaded a new save because I wasn't grinding for human class points, so I don't mind losing those. I guess they don't want you to do that? Which is fair, but I was just using it to practice chains
Huh, I don't know if the damage refreshes when leaving, but I would guess not. The possibility of killing it, makes me think they purposely don't want you to grind class which apparently doesn't matter that much anyway...

I believe your magic is effected by your current weapon's affinity and damage type, but not your class bonus.
So basically if you use a weapon with a high light affinity your soul spell will do more damage, but you also need to account for the whole blunt/piercing/slashing thing (I think. The way damage works in the game is a mind fuck)
